This is a very interesting article, and I learned a lot.  Thank you for posting it, Chrissie.  NB issues are under-reported and need to be better understood.  Our Non-Binary Forum is under-utilized, too.  It is important, and becoming more so.

Good article, Chrissie. Thanks. I'm currently reading the Rajunov book now. Some great information and viewpoints in there. Should help me make a decision about HRT. I like the idea of gradual change for me, as a non-binary and bigender person, rather than full time of hormones. But that is yet to be discovered.

While i may have moved this way if i was younger my feelings and needs differed from the non binary folks described in this well written article.  I find this part of the trans experience interesting.  Thank you for helping me better understand.

I remember reading this 2019 article some time ago, and found parts of it very familiar to me, as I also identify as non-binary.  Thanks for posting it here, @Sometimes Chrissie!

 

I, too, began in late 2019 with my doctor at Fenway Health with what she considered to be low-dose estrogen (non-binary are the minority of their patients, but are increasing [I asked about this my last checkup]).  The last two years have seen gradual adjustments to this -- first down, and lately back up as I adjusted and felt more comfortable with the changes to my body, and especially the positive affects mentally.  

 

My story differs from most Fenway patients, in that I started estrogen at age 71.  Decades of suppression gave way to an acceptance that I positively, absolutely needed to come out, to stop playing a part. The me of today is definitely different from the pre-HRT me -- not surprisingly. 

 

While most people are nice, there are occasionally intrusive people to deal with. Why should the burden be on a non-binary person to explain to others, over and over, why pronouns are important? Why should the expectation of some cis binary people be that a non-binary person should "blend in", should "pass" as either male or female, so as not to cause discomfort to them?  So, that part of it can be wearying.

 

But, overwhelmingly, being non-binary brings me the happiness that I didn't feel for ages.  And that's worth everything.

An F2M friend sent me the article. Because I fluctuate between M and F and for other reasons such as health, family history of prostate issues and sexually dysfunctional spouse I see practical reasons for this as well in my case. 

 

Male are given T blockers for health reasons and feminization and low libido often result. For most males it's a real bummer but it's either that or prostate issues including cancer so they reluctantly accept moobs and genital shrinkage but are OK with fuller hair.

 

While I don't want boobies, full hair and easily "tuckable" junk would be nice. Waking up without "morning wood" would be nice as well.
