Feeling stressed: progesterone and distress from some potential side effects (TMI possible)

So I know there isn't a lot of hard data on progesterone when it comes to ladies like ourselves, but I am hoping maybe some of you might have experience with P that you might be able to shed some light on a question.  Also this feels like the safest place to ask a question like this.  :)Ultimately I am trying to determine if I need to reach out to my doc to discuss this.  Here's some context:  I am just over 9 months on hormone therapy and when I began I had several goals for it.  These included the usual suspects along with a couple things I would suspect aren't really "goals" for most girls (probably seen more as side effects I suppose), reduced libido and elimination of spontaneous erections (and I am probably unusual in that I want atrophy down there).  The short version for these is I am married to an effectively asexual woman and thought things would work smoother between us  if I were more like her (whether this was a healthy idea or not is a discussion for another time) and I get a lot of distress (some may characterize this as dysphoria) from spontaneous erections in addition to losing sleep going back to when I was a child.  Not sure if anyone else deliberately hit themselves in the crotch to try to make it go away, but that was where I was when I was young.

As I went through the first 8 months of HT I saw both of these effects to one degree or another which I saw as Very Good Things.  In May I began discussing adding P with my doc for the potential boost to feminization that it could bring and we penciled it in for closer to my 1 year HT-niversary.  In August when I went in for a checkup I had mentioned that I had developed problems with sleep and the subject of P was brought up as a potential "2 birds with one stone" option because my blood work had been good and stable for several months (E>200, T<15).  We decided to give it a shot _______ and within about a week I was getting much of the benefit to sleep I had hoped for.  I was sleeping deeper and falling back to sleep easier if I did wake up in the night.  My dreams were/are completely nutso, but I was getting the rest I needed.

Fast forward to this past week where I am about 5 weeks on P and I've started seeing a couple other things that aren't as welcome.  Libido has rebounded a bit, which I don't really want, but just by a small amount so it's not a huge deal as I did expect some of that when I began.  Let's just say this is unwelcome but tolerable.  The worse thing is I have started getting the spontaneous erections in the night again and it's messing up my sleep and stressing me out that things are being "exercised" outside my control and that somehow this means my T levels might be rebounding.  There may be a certain amount of paranoia going on, but stress is stress you know?  I am a kind-of-believer of the concept of testosterone poisoning as a thing, and picture it as kind of a calcification within my body like what you'd get from hard water running through old galvanized plumbing so the idea that I'm not flushing that stuff out of my system any more really bothers me.

Anyway, where the actual question comes into play is considering my goals if I should be reaching out to my doc to discuss either doing some labs soon to see of the T is actually rebounding or if I should be considering dropping the P (which I am hesitant to do since it has been supporting my sleep and may eventually support all my other goals)?  Does anyone else have experience with P where they may have had the spontaneous erections return?  Is it potentially temporary?  Am I just being paranoid? ;) (honestly I'm hoping it's that last one haha)

Thanks for any insight you all might have!
Cheers

Kelly

Kelly, I don't have experience with Progesterone, but the questions you have are exactly the kinds of questions you should ask your doctor.  We can give you our experiences, but they may not be comparable to your situation, and neither would be anecdotes.  The doctor knows you, can look at your labs and knows what you want to accomplish.  We only know the latter.  So please do talk to your doctor.

@Carolyn Marie First, thanks for fixing the dosage thing, I had forgotten about that.  Thanks for the response, I didn't want to tell the doc something was up and then have him take me off it or something without at least doing a little homework to see if I was overreacting and drawing from others' experiences has been my most reliable source over the last year.  I worry about something coming up that won't allow me to continue with my treatment plan so every time I ask him anything I usually try to exhaust every resource I have before reaching out.  I may give it a few days to see if things settle back down and if not I will message my doc.

I did speak to my doctor and he said my T should not be rebounding, and being on P as well it should be even more suppressed, if anything.  He said it's likely a temporary thing but ordered some labs just to be safe.  He said he would recommend giving it a few weeks before doing the labs to see if it continues or if it winds up being a temporary thing.  So the plan for now is to wait and see and go in for some new labs probably towards the end of the month or early November.

Thought I would share in case anyone winds up looking for answers on something similar someday :)

Thanks for the update, Kelly.  I hope all is well after your next set of lab work.

@Carolyn Marie thanks!  Someone gave me some good advice ;)

I do feel better having talked to the doc about it.  My brain tends to take things and run away with them and he reeled me back in :)

little update on this for the completionist in me ;)

As the Doc suggested my issues were indeed mostly temporary.  Still have a night here and there where things get uncomfortable but generally things are pretty much back to normal.  I did go in for some labs just to be safe (and because I like to look at the numbers) and everything has come back good.  My E is starting to level off in a good place and T is still well suppressed so everything is cool.

@RiyaHello and welcome. I also live in Ohio and it is a challenge but I applaud you for knowing pretty early on and becoming who you really are. Congratulations!

Do you feel safe in the country you now live in?

Oooooooooooooooops, I forgot yesterday.   I was thinking of a few bands who had a member invited who said no and went right into obscurity or left before the band got big.   1) Led Zeppelin -  origially wanted Terry Reid to be lead vocalist and he decided the stay solo. 2) Crosby, Stills & Nash - invited John Sebastian to join before Neil Young, Sebastian said no. 3) Signe Anderson quit as lead vocalist with Jefferson Airplane and they replaced her with Grace Slick.

Good morning, everyone! We're back from a short vacation with friends to the mountains of NC. It was a fun time driving the twisty mountain roads.   Now it's back to reality of cutting grass, washing windows and putting in screens and putting out the porch furniture. Coming home to warmer weather than when we left is glorious.   Happy Anniversary @Willow!    I hope your family is feeling better @KymmieL - my wife and I shared a stomach virus several weeks ago that was horrid.   Hang in there @Birdie, it will all work out!!   Have a wonderful day, everyone!

I think many Christians end up with a false dichotomy.  If we didn't choose to be how we are, then something in our environment did it. Is going along with it a sin?  Maybe.  But if so, its one of those times where we mess something up no matter what we do.  Part of the imperfect nature of this fallen world is that there are times where we'll sin no matter what we do.  In a no-win scenario like that, we do the wisest thing possible with our free will.

This is the crux of my anguish these many, many months (years!) and where I go back-and-forth with my own journey ... I was born a biological male. No denying that in my case. But I have a lot of internal feminine leanings and external ones, too. I prefer to wear women's clothes 100 percent of the time (if I could). I wish I had the female plumbing. I long for that badly sometimes. I don't know why or where that came from but no denying that either. I have started HRT because I like the idea of having a more feminine physical body and some of the "perks" that go with that. I just asked my doc to up my dose to the next level today!   So the big question I ask myself is: am I knowingly disobeying God, who likes order and made humans male and female, by taking these steps? This is my wife's take on things. "You are sinning. You know God made you a male biologically. Yet you are willfully pursuing transition to being something God didn't intend you to be regardless of what you feel inside, what your preferences are, etc."  I keep trying to tell her it's much more complex than that but sometimes I don't even know what I think...   This ties up in knots and makes me angry and makes me feel stuck!!! I don't want to disobey my Creator and Savior and yet I have this strong, strong leaning toward the feminine in many ways (that keeps getting stronger and refuses to go away no matter how much I have tried to stuff it away!!) ... It feels like misery no matter which path I take - if I "give in" to the feminine, which I have been doing a lot the past 12 months or so, am I endangering my soul? Am I creating scandal? Yet the thought of putting the feminine aside feels, at times, like death too (or is it just me being self-centered and unwilling to bend the knee to my Creator who would ask me to give this up as a testament to my love for him...   I don't know. I don't know. I don't know!! But sometimes I really really F***ing hate this quandary...

We use a ton of Harbor Freight stuff here.  They have pretty good warranty, too, I guess.  GF beats all heck out of sockets and things, and if she takes them back they get replaced for free.  Harbor Freight was junk 20 years ago, but its really good now.  Craftsman used to be good 20 years ago, but now its junk (but they still want to charge made-in-the-usa prices).  Dewalt is now Chinese also, when it used to be made in Germany.  Older Dewalt tools are good, but GF got a really bad hand injury a few years ago from a Chinese Dewalt drill bit that shattered.  Some of the name brands just aren't what they used to be.

Honestly, all the numbers are monkey math.  Doesn't matter who's in charge.  Trump kept crowing about the damn stock market, which didn't make a difference to normal people.  All the "job creation" is an illusion.  They consider it job creation when they take good full time jobs, and split them in half to "make" two part-time or temp jobs.  Not totally a Biden problem, as this has been going on for decades now.  Things *began* to get better under Trump.  A bit.  Maybe 8 years would have been better, but it wouldn't have fixed it.  Too much damage.    To me, Trump is a case of "too little, too late."  In my opinion, we need more - a true nationalist, with an aggressive and isolationist foreign policy.  And we needed him 50 years ago.  I want to see:   High import tariffs, a currency backed by precious metals, no more "climate" stuff and repudiation of all "accords" or other agreements, elimination of excess government agencies like the FBI and EPA, and total seizure of foreign-owned assets on US soil - with sale and disbursement of profits to our citizens.  And that would be a basic start.  Instead of "sanctions" to interrupt the trade of nations we don't like, Congress should instead issue letters-of-marque as described in the Constitution.  I'd like to see an alliance with Russia, and an end to nearly a century of useless conflict.    Trump won't do any of those things.  He's a sad, pale imitation of the leaders that founded our nation.

Well I got some terrible news today. My therapist is a doctoral intern at the VA. Her internship is ending the end of July. Normally interns just continue with the VA after their degree is done. However, VA has a hiring freeze on. So, I am going to loose one of the best therapists I have ever had. One that actually cares about me. I do have a few months till she leaves, Thankfully.   Other than that. my wife and youngest are both sick. Don't know if they got it worse that I had on Thurs/Friday. Or I am destine to get it too.   I've got tools that range from cheapy flea market stuff all the way up to high grade, Mac and Snap-on. Most have lasted me for quite a long time. I am diligently trying to keep my happy arse out or the Snap-on truck when he comes every Thurs. So far, I have resisted. But the temptation is there.   Kymmie
