I also tried to take my own life in 1998 with ODing on two types of antidepressants on alcohol and to seal the deal cut up my wrists. And this was after being 'sober' for several months..but at that time I didn't even know about GD. 

Twenty more years of darkness and confusion... In my case, I had to stop taking the antidepressants after 12 years to be able to even climb out. Self-acceptance and honesty was key in me making any progress in sobriety. 

"The Hound Of Heaven" is a classic poem that describes my spiritual experience and there's a short film interpretation on YouTube.

Thank you @VickySGV ! Glad you're here (I really mean here)! It took a lot to break away from mis tres amigos: denial, self hate & self delusion. I guess a lot of letting go & after 5 years sober I began to accept that maybe these feelings, this disconnect between mind & body are not something wicked to be abhorred, to try & wash (drink) away, but a part of me that is okay to explore. Finding this place with people like you here, who are like me, accept me, help me & love me just as I am has been a blessing.
