does dysphoria have to be always present?

Recommended Posts

I've noticed that there are times where dysphoria is so strong I don't even wanna go out of my room, and others when I feel completely fine being femenine. These past months I've realized that I've felt mild dysphoria since puberty started (I was 10, now I'm 14), but I also noticed that dysphoria Isn't always there, or as strong as other times. For example, there was this time where my mother gave me a top, it was a pretty one. And I liked the idea of using it, but when I tried it, I felt weird and uncomfortable. And it's kinda weird, cuz I felt pretty, but not comfortable or "like my self", it felt like putting on a facade. Also, I don't have a big problem with dressing up stereotipically femenine, but I feel so dysphoric when people refer to me as a woman or use she/her pronouns.

So, these feelings aren't always there, but I've definitely felt them strongly and more than once. I was wondering if that is normal for a trans person, or I'm just confused?

What you describe is quite normal.  Dysphoria comes and goes.  Certain things will trigger it, but at other times, we can push it into the background and not notice it.

It is no less real just because you do not experience it all the time.  The fact that a person experiences dysphoria at all is what makes them trans.
