Too old?

Loren, welcome "old timer"😄.  I went full time at 63 and started HRT using a topical E and spiro to control T.   As i have heart issues my doctor recommended  that a topical E was the safest.  I have had what i consider great results.  I've got cute pert cupcakes that while not voluminous are quite satisfying.  

As mentioned by others my moods and self acceptance has grown immensely.  In part due to physical changes but also due to the honesty and openness that started with discussions here and with my therapist.

My golden years are indeed golden.

It seems to be. I started on Spiro. I mentioned to my therapist that I wanted my breasts to grow faster. She told me I should ask my doctor about going on progesterone like she did. ( We have the same doctor. My therapist is a TransWoman also ). I did that and have been on it for 6 months now. Get blood test every 3 months. My levels have been steadily been getting towards my goal. They have a standard dosage for Progesterone and chang the Estradiol dosage to get E and T levels in line. I haven't had any negative side effects and breasts are growing. Get my next blood work in 2 days. Should be pretty close to target levels this time. We can't discuss meds dosage in forum. Everyone is different anyway.

Things have changed to the point that each facility has a LGBTQ coordinator. I heard that they forced one Dr out for refusing to see a LGBTQ vet. They are not messing around.

You're one of the lucky ones. I hope I get that lucky. I'm an A cup, but still growing.

OLD!? YOU'RE WAY younger that I am, having Just turned 73 this month. I REstarted transition is about '19 +/- and did so through the VA. I had originally come out to my psychiatrist about 20 +/- years ago when I was cross-dressing and WANTing to go forward. I stopped when I could not answer the Qx: "Are you Totally willing to put up/endure the same abuse and bullying you went through in your hometown schools (K-12)? If Yes, Go for it. If NOT ... STOP RIGHT WHERE YOU ARE."

 

FForward to 2019. I had gone to my AMVETS post Halloween Party in Kjiersten. MOSTLY as a costume, but I also treated it a a Beta Rollout.. I got quite a few positive remarks/comments and felt happier than I'd been in a LONG time!!! The Next nite, I went to my Local for Their "SCARE-AOKE" party. Again, lots of pozzies and I also won $50!!! A few days later, I was talking to a girl friend (notice words separated, not GF.) and when we had finished our convo, her Friend, kinda stage-whispered, "you Do know he is a woman trapped in a man's body, do you?" I had just turned away, still heard her, but was too far away to turn and reply/challenge her.

 

When the night was over, I went home and thought quite deeply about it. I made up my mind. Two days later when I had an appt. w/ my Psych, when I walked in the door, first thing I said was: "THE BITCH IS BACK!" and we went on to work on it from there.

 

She cut me a consult to the Gender clinic and arranged for a therapist. After initial interview with the Attending PsyD Supervisor, I was set up with a Tx. NO GATES HERE.

 

I then went to my PCP and came out to him. He told me he wasn't comfortable working w/ TG issues, so I immediately cut a consult to the PSP I wad been working with for a few years and she said "Yes." We talked at our appt. and she consulted me to an Endocrinologist. I got the consult back in three days. (Now, in "VAese," 3-5 means either weeks or months) In the intervening time, the C-BUG was rampant, so my only contact w/ him was telcon. BUT NO GATE HERE EITHER.

 

Bottom Line. The VA is an "Informed Consent" milieu, in that is NOT a Gatekeeping system. The VA Transgender program runs IAW "VA Directive 1341(2) amended 26 Jun, 2019." Go to VA.GOV and go to the "Veterans With LGBTQ+ issues. Look up that Document and download it. Actually, it would be easier to GOOGLE it using that doco number as your searchword. Dld it Save it in a prominent place in your 'puter. Print it out if you must. But GET THAT DOCO! It will be your Bible.

I'm not a Vet. I was classified 4F because of a motorcycle accident. I'm 69. Been on HRT for a year now. I plan to get bottom surgery and possible BA at some point. I would like at least a "B/C" cup. I'll wait another year to see what happens naturally. Been married for 51 years. I didn't think we would make it for a long while after I came out to her. She is much more accepting now. It's an ongoing process. My wife and family are worried about me getting surgery, but I told my wife that I can't survive without it mentally or physically. If I don't make it through the operation, so be it. I WILL come back as a Woman in my next life.
