FtM Top Surgery Questions for someone over 40 yo

I'm wanting to transition FtM and I'm 45 yo. I have always had bad top dysphoria. I was wanting to know about complications in older FtM's getting top surgery. Also I believe that I may have the breast cancer gene. My mom's mother and all her sisters had breast cancer and all of them had their breasts removed. My mother has had a breast cancer scare so I was wondering if anyone else is in a situation like this? I've always been afraid of Breast Cancer and wanted them removed not just because of my dysphoria but also because I might hold the breast cancer gene.

Hello, Duncan.  I don't think we've met previously.  I wish we had more FtM's here, because we need some more men with experience to share.  While I don't have personal knowledge, I know several mature men who had top surgery and they came through without major issues.  But everyone has different experiences and outcomes.

Hello Duncan.  As far as complications go I know we are all different and react differently to surgical procedures.  But I remember an older guy (probably late 50's) who had the surgery and came to a support group meeting three days later.  He was a little sore and still was bandaged but was moving about nicely.  I recall him noting stretching high to reach items on the top shelves in his kitchen was still a bit painful.   He looked forward to getting back to golf.  All my best to you!
