Florida House passes "stop woke" and "don't say gay" bills

"Individual Freedoms Act"?  I guess it all depends upon what side of the fence you're on.  "Protecting" someone's freedom at the expense of others is no freedom at all.  I won't even go into Black people and earlier (heck, current) history in the US.

One word for it:  Florida

Sadly, I sense a tremendous anti-LGBTQ backlash coming that could set back much of our progress. The thing in Texas reminds me of something Nazi Germany would do. Governor Abbott should look at his own problems first. Sentencing a child to some of the pain that many of us grew up with, going through a puberty that we do not want, is the real child abuse.

The legislation if Florida, strikes me the same way. It is highly disappointing that this is the best that our political system can do.

Sincerely

Katie

I’m alright with one of those bills.

The “don’t say gay” one is asinine though.

I live in Texas and Abbott is losing his danged mind. Luckily, the law isn’t on his side or that of Ken Paxton and his “opinion piece.”

I could write an opinion piece too. My opinion of Ken Paxton is that he brings shame upon the Paxton name.

If Abbott’s nonsense leads to someone like O’Rourke becoming governor, I’m going to be highly annoyed.

There was a time when I was a reliably Republican voter.

The last few years…

I am convinced I will never vote for anyone with an R beside their name.

I am thinking that we need to adopt a couple of other campaigns like banning people in wheelchairs who have delusions of being an effective governor, or banning politicians with an inflated ego like DeSantis. These attitudes from the both of them remind me so much of the rhetoric from Nazi Germany. I have to wonder if there is any common sense. You know, if you ever go to some of the Baptist funerals, they will go into these explanations of how the body is just a shell and our spirit will go on in heaven. What's to say our box assignment did not get messed up. I know, they will claim God never makes mistakes...Yeah, I suppose we were meant to have horrible wars, and various plagues.

On the other hand, other cultures such as the American Indians celebrate those of us with two spirits...berdache I believe is the word they use. Yes, in America we are enlightened? Really? Neither political party is any prize. If there was truly acceptance and understanding, we might not have to fight with states just to receive appropriate treatment. We would not have to go through 50 hoops or so to change our identity. The list goes on.

I’m the total opposite after the last election.

That’s a bit extreme. There aren’t any bans he’s actually enacted regarding trans folks (that I know of at 5 am).

He’s just running his mouth based off an opinion piece written by our illustrious (and legally embattled) Attorney General.

Abbott has been a decent enough governor… he just is incredibly moronic when it comes to trans issues. Some have issues with his abortion laws as well, but I don’t know enough about that really.

I’m anti-abortion, myself. But I do recognize the lunacy of forcing someone who doesn’t want a pregnancy to carry the child to term and expecting a positive outcome.

Strange… I was feeling the same way about much of the policies from the dems currently in office. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Funny story: I had my first run-in with one of those “you’re going against God” types. I was shredding him rather effectively in my own, but my friend jumped in, offering very similar sentiments to this (she was brought up very religious, but chooses love instead of hate (ya’ know… like God actually says to do?)

As I told the guy who came at me (claiming that, by transitioning, I was claiming God made me this way as a mistake), I said three times, with the last one being in all caps I AM NOT A MISTAKE.

Then I enlightened him to the fact that, just prior to having me, my mother miscarried a girl child. That tells me I’ve *always* been impatient. I didn’t even want to wait for a body with female parts to come along. I took the next available one, got here and said “aww crap.”

I just added a Canadian person that identifies this way to my Facebook friends list. She laid it out for me pretty succinctly. Her struggles up North haven’t been all peachy keen, unfortunately.

You’ve got that right. They’re so busy pointing fingers and lying, they can’t see that they’re both the problem.

True enough.

I think it might be possible that "God" could create someone to be transgender on purpose.

Of course, this is making a lot of assumptions about "God".

Well it happened in my case, though I think most of the “blame,” for lack of a better word, is on me. I’ve never been known for my patience.

I have some relatives on my mother's side of the family that pretend they support me, but treat me like a leper if I contact them. I just love that they need to tell me how much they are a Christian and how God love's me, and how I am a precious child of Jesus, but it saddens them I am transgender. Of they go on to tell me that they are not here to judge my actions. My response to them was "I have never been happier and I am proud that I am making this journey." Apple really came out with a great feature with the ability to block a caller!

Screw em! Too many people wrap themselves in the form of religion, but have little idea of the substance of religion. I have cut my mother's family off. They can shove it. I pity their children if any of them ever come out as transgender or gay.

The same can be said for sanctimonious politicians.

Sincerely

Katie

In my experience so far, there are Christians and there are "christians", if you know what i mean.  Sorry to hear you have some in your family.

Declaring that you are following the precepts of Jesus of Nazareth as an excuse for committing mischief, is much more common than actually following those precepts.  😎:dunno:😎

My response to those types is to tell them to check with their Boss. When I have actual permission and confirmation from Him that I’m on the right path, they can fall in line or admit they don’t believe in Him nearly as much as they claim to.

Too true.

My newest friend has made the second fastest leap to “sister” status in my life (not counting biological siblings). She was brought up *extremely* religiously.

She still loves and supports me. She knows that I am not “a mistake” and we both agree God made me this way for a reason. She’s a *REAL* Christian… not a hate-spewing wannabe.
