Masculine Hair Lines

Well, I have a hairline that naturally dips downward a little in the middle of my head, and then leaves a 1 inch diameter (round that) circle-like shape on each side. I'm not sure if this is right, but I noticed guys don't seem to really have that, it's more like a straight line, and in general it's just wider. So I didn't do anything too dramatic yet, but as I was shaving my face (this time I used a mirror, I have 1 dark facial hair on the side of my face, and I wanted to grow it out again, so I shaved around it :P) Anyway, I used the razor to play with my hairline a little. I'm not sure how it looks, but I just played with it a little on the edges, I can grow it out my hairs not very long if I don't like it, or shave it more if I need to play with it some more...

This is the best "Before" pic I could find

It's not too much of a difference but as I said, I didn't wanna mess it up, and also it would look weird if I magically had a complete change in hair line overnight! o.o

Anyway, what's everyone's thoughts?

Looks good - only problem is it always grows out unless you do electrolysis. I suppose FTM can do it too.

So it might be a maintenance thing.

I had my head shaved for about a year, partly with just a normal pair of clippers and towards the 6 month mark with a razor completely to the skin, I have no problem with maintenance! XD

It is a maitence thing Lewis, B4 i started T my hair line was similar to yours, I would go to the barber and have him give me a line to make it more male. He basically shaved a straight line acroos my forhead and made my hair line a little further back, the only problem was it started to grow back in about 2 days. I eventurally learned how to do it my self so I di every 2 days to keep it up. After I started T My hair line became male on it's own. It looks good though, Keep up the good work.

bah longer hair? In 2nd grade I had my head shaved. the school sent a letter home, saying that an 8 year old girl shouldn't have her head shaved and I said I wasn't a girl and got mad and my mom wouldn't let me do it again. I wanted my head shaved soooo bad! I had it shaved for a whole year, and only recently grew it in to make my face seem more masculine.

I think your hair looks quite masculine the way you have it in those pics, the hair line looks good. I'm with Ainsley though, I've got long enough hair that it covers up the line. I'd look stupid with a buzz too!

Lewis you can do whatever you want to now but when you go on T it will deside for itself where it is going to go and a lot of it may go away.

I have a lot of hair myself with a rather pronounced widows peak and a ression much higher on one side than the other - sort of like John Hillerman on Magnum PI he was Higgins.

Love ya,

I have a very feminine hair line. A widows peak. I hoped it would receed on testosterone, but a year and a half on it, and it hasn't changed a bit. I really don't find it stops me from passing though. I think though if it really bothers you then maybe it is worth the effort to shave it into a more masculine shape because there does seem to be a big difference between transguys and bioguys when it come to hairline. I've just come to accept mine as part of who I am, but if it bothers you then go for it.

I've got a widow's peak too and was very concerned about it at first. However, as I look around and study genetic guys' hairlines, there is a lot of variability. In many cases, that hairline that is further back on a lot of dudes probably just means they'll be bald when they are middle aged. My hairline has changed a little on T, but not substantially. I'd rather have a slightly more feminine hairline and keep my luscious locks.

Hi there, The youtube link you gave doesn't go anywhere, its like a WHO video.

But anyway I don't think a Widows peak is feminine, my brother (he was born/assigned male) has a widows peak, and he is very masculine looking. I think its more to do with the height of your hair line and how far back it goes eitherside of your forehead (not the middle, the bits 1-2 inches above your ears).

for example this guy has a widows peak

RoryGreen.jpg

He doesn't look feminine because he it makes an M shape, if the V part was more less severe it may look more feminine.

This woman belowalso has a widows peak, but the thing that makes is feminine on her is that the V is much more shallow, if up points were higher t would look masculine.

Anyway, I never had this problem, and I definately don't now (I am receding a little, looks alright tho). T will probably make a difference, otherwise I recommend getting your hair shaped at the barbers.. he'll shave it really close and shape it... THEN maybe you can 'maintain' it yourself inbetween.

Good luck.

My four boys, who had or will have me for a barber for the first 18 years of their lives, would actually find the post as interesting as I do. They are all "male" by their own definition. I will say that the hairline you are describing is not a "feminine" hairline. When I first read this, I went down to the local barber shop and just watched the many boys getting haircuts. I will say that there are many, at least here, that have that same hairline. My twins, who are only 22, would kill to have their widow's peaks back. My 21 year old had a difficult cowlick just off center of his hairline that sent hair down past his hairline but had a beautiful spiral appearance - now GONE. You are young yet...time fixes alot of things that you later wish you had back! This is not at all intended to be anything but informative. Sometimes the difference between feminine and masculine physique or norm are blighted by magazines and press. Since widow's peaks and cowlicks are considered "defects", it only makes sense that you don't see them much on either sex because people hide them! You are, as always, awesome and handsome...good luck on fighting those hair demons...~Chay~

I never heard of the widow's peak being a feminine trait. I have had one my entire life - really pronounced when I was about 18. Its now not as obvious about 2 inches above my eyebrow line - the sides are about a half inch higher. But I have no male severe recieding hairline - never had. Unusual for my age I guess.

I am interested in more info on this.

Starkiller has a "widows peak". I never knew it was called that. I couldn't get one to work for me, sucks.

By the way, Starkiller is super manly and I wouldn't call him any less. B)

according to wikipedia john travolta has one too :)

so i think even if it doesn't disappear on T you'd still develop a male-patterned hairline and it should't be a problem...in terms of passing and the perceived 'masculinity' of your face, i mean.

Hello @The Lake, Welcome to our forum. I’m intrigued by your introduction and would enjoy reading more about your backstory. We all have very unique journeys and yours is not one I have come across often. As you become more comfortable with our community, maybe you could share more aout how your gender identity evolved, what difficulties you confronted and endured and what some of your successes were along the way. Also, do you see yourself involved in a future transition of roles, presentation, social, physical, or something else entirely? There is never any pressure to share a thing here. So feel free to share as little or as much as you like. We are a very open-minded nonjudgmental group who enjoy learning new things from our members.   Warmest Regards, Susan R🌷

Welcome @gizgizgizzie, It’s nice to have you in the fold. We are a very diverse group so you’ll fit in just fine. Right now, society at large is getting bombarded with misinformation, bait and switch tactics, propaganda and lies so it’s no wonder no one can get it right. I don’t come out and explain things about my gender identity as much these days but when I do it’s amazing how little these people know about our transgender community in 2024.   Thanks for sharing a little about yourself. I hope to learn more about you as you become more acclimated and active within our forum.   Warmest Regards, Susan R🌷

Speaking of hair days…for me, hair has always been the part of my presentation that had the most impact on my overall view of myself. It was much worse for me earlier in my transition. I enjoy experimenting with new hair styles so once in a while, I’ll end up completely redoing my hair because it somehow reminded me of my old self. Self image is a strange yet powerful thing and it take a lot of time and effort to change it.

I am working on a solo music project and I decided a few years ago I wanted to do female lead vocals. I’ve played instrumental music most of my life and sung as a male, mostly backup and harmony though, but very little lead. I never liked my male voice. People always clocked me as female on the phone so I’ve always had a more feminine voice. A little over two years ago I started training my female voice to sing and it has been a lot of fun, though I’m still not where I want to be. Consistency is my biggest challenge.    I try to make practice fun or I don’t stick with it. So I do a lot of singing along with my favorite cover songs…I use a vocal fader, and practice with a microphone, and often just record the blend with my phone to evaluate where I’m at and see what I need to work on. If possible I find karaoke mixes on YouTube where the lead vocal is removed and sing along to that.   I’m not sure I can offer much advice, I just do a lot of listening back and adjusting my technique and practicing until I like how I sound. Just a lot of practice. It will probably take longer than you hope to get where you want to be :) High notes will be challenging but every singer has to build up the muscles and technique and breath support and stretch the vocal chords and then their range will expand. My higher notes are in tune, but often sound strained, probably because they are. Some of that is tensing up in anticipation which I need to train myself out of doing.    I think “trans voice lessons” on YouTube is one of the best channels for tips and theory. Once you’ve found your singing voice and have that relatively consistent, pretty much it’s just working on technique, styling, articulation, range, like any singer would.

I sometimes look too critically when I look in mirrors. If I’m presenting as male, I think I look too feminine. If I am presenting female then I think I look too masculine. It’s very irritating! Sometimes I think I get it down right. I guess everybody has their good and bad hair days and such, though.

https://www.hrc.org/news/reyna-hernandez-latina-trans-woman-salon-owner-and-vibrant-spirit-killed-in-washington-state   This case is unusual, in that the victim was murdered in the U.S. and her body driven all the way to Mexico, presumably to hide evidence and confuse the authorities.    May Reyna rest in peace, and her vicious killer convicted and sentenced to a very long term behind bars.   Carolyn Marie

I cooked a breaded bone-in pork chop (seared in iron skillet then into the oven) an artichoke (w/mayo) and a frozen mac n' cheese that claimed it was "The Best Mac n' Cheese" ... and it was actually pretty good.
