SRS surgery revision.

Hi .. this is my first post here

I just wanted to ask, as I'm looking for some information about SRS revision surgery.

I had SRS with Dr Saran in Bangkok about 6 years ago. The surgery was successful and I'm generally happy with the results. However, there is something I'd like corrected. The Resected Corpora Cavernosa, the fleshy area between the urethra and my vagina, is too pronounced for my liking, and being that it is erectile tissue, it becomes enlarged when I'm aroused. This can cause a problem when I urinate, but mostly it is a problem at times of physical intimacy. It really doesn't look very natural at all. My male partners find it quite unusual, it makes it difficult for them to find their way around my anatomy, and this has caused some painful poking and prodding in the wrong place. I find it very awkward to explain to them and as a result I have become very self-conscious and this can really spoil the moment, but further than that, knowing it is there makes me very reluctant to even be sexually active. And as I recently broke up with my boyfriend, I would really like to start dating again, but this has put me off.

 

I'm not sure if it's normal for the resected corpora cavernosa to be so pronounced after penile inversion SRS, and I don't know any other post-op women to discuss it with, but I really would like something done about it if I can. I've tried just living with it all these years, but it doesn't get any easier, only worse with each new person I meet.

I spoke to my GP last year and she referred me to the urologist Dr. Hart in Canberra who also does SRS. I had a Zoom appointment with him (I'm in Tasmania) last October. When speaking to him he seemed confident that it would be a relatively minor procedure and told me he'd likely be able to do it before the end of last year, or early this year. That obviously hasn't happened yet! I have sent a few emails directly to him, as well as his reception, including a few phone calls, requesting a complete quote, and all other relevant information that I'll need to know to organise the surgery.

Well, now it's 6 months later and I've only just received and estimate from him 2 weeks ago. It didn't include anything about an anaesthetist's costs, or any information about a hospital stay and costs, or other miscellaneous expenses. I wrote back again requesting more information as I need to plan every detail I can, but so far I haven't heard anything. Now I'm getting the strong impression that, for whatever reason, he doesn't want to do it.

I spoke to my GP again and she said I should definitely get a 2nd opinion so she referred me to Dr Andrew Ives in Melbourne, but when I called his office I was informed he doesn't do revision work, and they suggest I contact Dr Goossen in Brisbane. So I emailed him 5 days ago but haven't had a reply yet, but it appears he will only see FtM patients.  

 

So at this point I have no idea where to go from here and I'm getting rather desperate to have this little procedure done. I will persist with Dr Hart, but I am losing confidence, it feels like getting blood from a stone, and at this rate it could be another year before I get there! So I'm not very optimistic, and so I would like to seek out other options.

 

Which is why I'm here, I need to know if there are any other surgeons in Australia who will do post SRS revision surgery?

I might even need to consider going back to Bangkok, at least I know they are efficient, organised and friendly there! I won't go back to Dr Saran though. So if anyone can recommend who would be a good surgeon there who is willing to do revisions, I'd be happy to know. I could do all the usual Google searches, but I do prefer direct recommendations based on people's experiences.

Or is there even any surgeons in NZ?

What about a local urologist surgeon or plastic surgeon? If it’s a simple excision then most any surgeon familiar with the body area should be able to help.

Hi Dee. I have heard that Dr Hart doesn't have a reputation for the greatest patient experience, but your experience does sound pretty rough. I'm not sure if it's helpful, but when Dr Ives stopped doing surgeries, I was put in touch with Mr Cheng Lo in Victoria. I'm very close to finalising my arrangements with him for Vaginoplasty with no cavity. Could he be an option for you? There was also another GCS surgeon that was recommended to me, but they said they were "closing the books" so to speak due to an influx of inquiries due to Dr Ives decision to stop performing surgeries. PM me if you'd like contact details for either Mr Lo or the other surgeon to follow up...
