Hi All!

I've been lurking (sorry) these forums for several weeks now.  I have gender dysphoria.  But recently I was reading one of the forums here and learned about diethylstilbestrol (DES).  I believe I had pre-natal exposure to DES.  My body bears many of the impacts that one would expect.  It also explains my dysphoria as I understand that DES causes a male brain to develop as a female brain.  This explains why I'd rather batch sauerkraut in the kitchen than watch a football game.  Yup, little interest in "traditional" male activities.  But, hey...I'm a pretty good cook!

I'm a late 50s model.  Married to the most wonderful girl in the world for 37 years.  Retired military officer.  Small business owner.

I've requested an appointment with the VA for next week to begin to explore my options.  I'm grateful for the wisdom I've gleaned from reading these pages.

Hugs

Bobbi

Hello Bobbijean,

I'm glad you are here and glad you decided to share. I'm a 50s model as well and lucky to be married for 30 years to a wonderful woman as well. That support is vital no matter what your decision is in regard to exploring options.

Hugs,

Heather

Welcome Bobbijean! Glad you're here! I don't think it's called lurking, maybe browsing, or window shopping.

Thank you, I haven't seen the info on DES, I'll take a look. However it happened, I'm happy to have come to accept who I am.

Thank you for your service! So, when I read "late 50s model," I thought you were a model who walks down the runway, but I'm thinking you meant along the lines of a Bel-Air.

I hope you find the wonderful support, advice & acceptance here as I have.

Hugs!

Hi Bobbi and welcome.  I was born in 1944 and may have been exposed to DES as well. I have been on this site for several years now and have learned a great deal. I have accepted that I’m transgender and working on being more out. My wife of 42 years is slowly accepting who I am.

Life is good🥰 Take care and enjoy this site.

Hugs

Thank you for your service, and welcome to TransPulseForums Bobbi.

I also suspect DES for the Lesbian cousin I have, and my own trans issues since first hearing about Christine Jorgensen, and then later Caroline Cossey. 1960s and 1970s Rock music also touched me in my transgender heart.

Best wishes, stay positive, and safe,

Thank you Sandra and Mindy for the kind words of welcome.

I too am accepting myself as a transgender woman.  I have an appointment for an interview with the VA next week.  I should receive my diagnosis of gender dysphoria then.

Fortunately, my wife of 37 years is really taking things well.  She seems to like the idea of having a wife.

Hugs...

Bobbi

Got accosted in a grocery store parking lot this morning by someone out on a petition drive (in my state, citizens can gather petition signatures to advance ballot measures; I'm always a little cautious about encountering petition drives "in the wild" because unless it's an issue that's been talked about *a lot* it can also be used as a way to just gather voter information).   ANYWAY, the person with the clipboard is presumable cis male and aggressive and I'm AFAB, genderfluid, dressed pretty androgenously this morning and this guy hollars across the parking lot asking "young lady" if I'm a registered voter.   Informed him I'm neither young nor a lady (guy was at least a decade younger than me, maybe more) and wasn't interested in the petition anyway.   "Oh, so I guess you're just offended then."   "YEP!"

Welcome @FelixThePickleMan! I admire your ambition to become a K9 handler. Working dogs are fascinating and outstanding.

WOW! Did she give a reason at least? It's not like it takes up that much space.

Yeah, it would be awesome to have something new, and it would fit the space pretty well.  We have kitchen counters big enough to process whole deer, goats, large amounts of vegetables, etc.   Unfortunately for me, I couldn't even convince our "den queen" to let me have counter space in our downstairs kitchenette for a Keurig.  🙄

I think the biggest mental block to acceptance is the language that keeps us othered and on the fringes, rather than woven deeply into society. But I also think that's changing fairly rapidly. My youngest is well into their young adult genre novels phase and I'm impressed (and kind of amazed) at how many of their mainstream traditionally published novels have LGBTQ+ themes woven in. That child is 12, and I suspect that as the kids who are in middle school along with them grow up, they're just going to expect and demand better than we've done as their parents. They've seen it in the fiction they read and have every expectation that it will be part of the life they live.

Heck they took off three grand on that one. That is massive! Then again your nest isn't small either so I guess would definitely come in handy.

Congrats on T <3   The height problem I think is an issue for a lot of trans guys, unfortunately. I know more tall cis women than short cis men, so it especially stands out to me whenever I'm in a room. I'm hoping for your voice to drop soon, good luck! (I've heard it feels a little bit like a cold? If that's true, hope it'll feel better quickly and that it's worth it!)

Hi Raine, my obstacles are that I'm 5"2 and always will be at the age of 34. I have size 5 feet, so it's difficult to find shoes, not alot of options, have to go to the teen boy bit. My voice was an issue, but T is starting to help me stay in the lower range of my fem voice, and I'm hoping it will drop soon.

I just like how our posts complimented each other.  Your point about publicity of pride events and that culture seemed to be spot on.  My culture and mindset is so different that I'm barely aware that things like that are going on.  I don't watch news and I'm very much into professional life and life-long learning.  There are all kinds of cultures out there.  Thanks for sharing your insights.

That rocks Abby!  We did the 1-2 on that!

Here, the public image of LGBTQ+ is formed from the limited contact of the Pride Parade, which seems to always attract a few people who are into flamboyant sensationalism and inappropriate conduct, so there are arrests for lewd conduct, indecent exposure and public disorder.  Those are the people the news media always covers at the parade, as if everyone LGBTQ+ was like that.  The whole parade thing backfires, in my opinion.    Sometimes these types show up at protests as well, and of course, that is what the news media picks up on.    Some people need to be taken quietly aside and told they are not helping.   I don't know if that is the biggest block, but it is there.  Lousy marketing,
