Dysphoria after coming out.

Dysphoria be hitting different after you come out...

 

I came out recently and it's funny how I instantly became overwhelmed. At least, more than usual. People have been mostly respectful, and I don't even mind when they trip over pronouns as long as they correct themselves. However, I am way more self-conscious.

 

I never expected to start HRT soon, but now I wish I could. Otherwise, it's nice not being in the closet anymore.

 

Can anyone else relate to this?

Being misgendered hurts more after coming out. They know (or they should remember) your correct name and pronouns. It feels like they’re purposefully making your day worse. My siblings are forced by my parents to misgender me but they’re so used to it that they do it even when my parents aren’t around. I wish they would remember more, but I know they love me still.

Yeah, I had that, too.  Mine relates to my body and social interactions.  Once I came out I felt a lot less dissociated from my body... So the parts that aren't right I feel more acutely.  On the social side, I had kinda given up on people interacting with me in a way that made sense given who I really am.  I affected a certain oblivious and awkward social manner.  I was just shut down, hiding myself.  Now that I'm out, it's the real me that people are accepting or rejecting... So rejection cuts a whole lot deeper.

 

I'm several months in now, and it's starting to settle.  Mostly now it's just a sense that there are people in my life who care for me deeply that I am no longer comprehensible to.

Definitely. I had very little dysphoria  before transitioning. Each thing I focused on I developed dysphoria over it. The only except was body hair, That had always bothered me, but for years I did not know.
