House Republicans have already proposed federal anti trans bills

Right now house Republicans are already proposing anti trans bills. Which means that the minute they win we will see a bunch of anti trans bills get passed. There is a trans gender sports ban bill being proposed and a bill mandating that school teachers misgender and deadname trans children. Things in the USA are only going to continue to go downhill from here. Given that with roe v Wade being overturned that the protests over it died down within a week or 2. I have the feeling that there will be little to no protests for anti trans bills or gay marriage being overturned. We have already lost, and we will never get treated equally by society. If these bills get passed I won't even have any to turn too, there's very little community in the silicon valley

I cry whenever I read something like this.  I cry for all my sisters and brothers in the USA.  I posted a link yesterday that may be appropriate for those wondering "What now?"   Leaving the USA.

I saw that article, there is no way I will make it out in time. It's going to take at least 3 years to move to Europe for me. And even then, trans healthcare is way less accessible in Europe because they don't do informed consent

I admit to being pessimistic about the future here.

Trans people are an easy target.  The right wing knows that most people don't even know a trans person.  And in their Fox News bubble they only hear negative things about us.

There are politicians trying to outdo each other on hating LGBT and trans in particular.  Even going so far as calling for the execution ("shot in the back of the head") of trans people.

I'm astounded at the rhetoric.  It's not even behind closed doors anymore.

Not everyone necessarily falls for this hate, but it doesn't affect them personally so they're like "meh."

As for leaving…  At my age I don't think is feasible.  I'll stick it out to the bitter end.  If they want me gone, they'll have to take care of it themselves.

I just hate it for the young folx.

I think about all we can do, is to be allies of other people affected by this string of rulings and the ones to come.  And it needs to be on a local level also - if it's not already too late.

This court has pissed off a lot of cis women too.

I think there's always hope.  But sometimes it's pretty faint.

Well, there are some good things to consider. Most of the conservatives have already painted themselves as stupid boobs. Most of them are older so in a few years, the folks taking care of them may be an RN, physician, or other healthcare provider who is LGBTQIA+. The other issue is that the younger generations are much more moderate. These conservative wing nuts will not last forever. What is more concerning is how close the country came to a coup on January 6th. I see too many parallels to the Nazi Party in 1933. The only thing that is missing is a paramilitary force (a modern day SS). The propaganda network is already hard at work. The sad part is that the Democrats have been painted into a corner and the Republicans know it. If the Democrats vehemently defend us, then they are tagged as the party that is more concerned about the fringe 1% of the population instead of real issues. Bill Maher brought this up on his show last year. The most effective strategy the Democrats can engage in is not to take the bait, and just rapidly move to a more centrist "good for everybody" approach instead of the current hate and fear spewed by the Republican Party. The Taliban wing of the Republican Party will start quoting scripture any time they are challenged..."it is what God wants". I seem to recall something in a guiding document about church and state being separate. Now what was the name of that guiding document? Oh yeah, the Constitution.

Well, I suspect we will see the insurance companies pull the transgender coverage. At least Thailand will still be available for surgeries and I hear they do a decent job...

It will be a strange landscape over the next few years.

For two more years, this stuff is not going to be an immanent threat since they will not have a super majority for a veto override any way this is cut.  A whole lot of this is not really aimed at us, it is aimed at the President in retaliation for his support of the LGBTQ community, and it is meant to get them certain voters.  At the minute the out party is scared of the January 6 mess that is very real and against them as a whole.  We are a distraction to the public from that fiasco.   Yes, I do live in a state that is Trans friendly and has enough clout to stay that way.  We have had a few morons even here I admit, but they got nowhere they wanted to be that way.

I’m just a kid and I might not be able to get srs for a while. When will it be too late? How long do I have in order to get it before that ability is taken away?
I don’t want to be at a point where I can get the surgery just to have that option taken away forcing me to wait until the republicans get too old. By then, I could be old too. I want the surgery in my early 20s, at least. I want to have my whole life ahead of me after I get it.
I’m scared I won’t be able have that future because of old people who want to take away my right to control my body for absolutely no reason.
When will it be too late?

@VickySGVis right; it makes sense to worry, but it's too soon to panic.  The R's know that these bills have no chance of being signed into law, just as the D's know that laws protecting the LGBT community, abortion rights and gun laws have no chance of passing.  It's just fodder for the "base."

Now, if an R is elected President in two years and the R's have both houses of Congress, then it will be time to panic.

I’m too early in my journey to have many answers, but far enough to be just as worried as it sounds like folks in this thread are. ❤️

It does occur to me, though, that society is a pendulum swinging between extremes but generally on a path that leans toward better. (Martin Luther King Jr. said “the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.,” right?) Just earlier today I saw a video interview with a woman named Robina Asti who died recently at the age of 99. She was a transgender woman and former air force pilot who fought in WWII. When she transitioned, it was a time in which I can’t imagine what kind of opposition and discrimination she might have faced. And yet she did it, kept flying, got married, founded a charity, and lived to almost 100. So, that’s the sort of bright light I try to remind myself to hold on to when the world seems pretty dark. 🤷‍♀️❤️

One of the things that worries me the most is that far too many of us liberals aren't willing to respond to the tactics of the new red menace in a tactically-viable manner. The vast majority of us are dead-set on continuing to play the "sticks and stones" game while we let them change the the rules and literally pull out assault rifles. Or RPGs and nukes if you're being more metaphoric than literal. "Because we're better than that." Yea, and we will die for being "better than that". We're the traffic cops that show up to a SWAT-level situation with a couple of batons and flashlights. And a big 'ol citation pad.

I mean, jesus christ, the GQ-fing-P literally took control of SCOTUS. A legislative-branch political party, literally assimilating the entire judicial branch of government.

If that's not a genuine declaration of war, than I don't know what is. And here we sit pretending the whole country's all still playing family-night Parcheesi.

(Minor confession: I might be a teensy bit stressed lately...)

Dangit...And here my original intent was to try to help calm, not inflame. A failure as usual...☹️

Shoot, darnit, I had other more upbeat things I was going to say but now I don't even remember. I've gone and depressed myself☹️

Anyway, if we can beat the odds and gain congress seats this November instead of loosing them, then we should be in good shape. Fingers crossed...

This is what they are doing:

'Critics say the legislation proposed by House Republicans would reduce access to care needed by transgender people to transition. Transgender people are significantly more likely to attempt or commit suicide, often due to lack of access to gender-affirming medical care, according to the Human Rights Campaign, an LGBT advocacy group

...

Eighteen Republican-led states have enacted bans on trans girls and women participating in publicly funded women’s sports, while more than a dozen have introduced legislation mimicking Florida's law limiting classroom instruction on sexual orientation and gender, according to the Human Rights Campaign' from https://www.reuters.com/world/us/republicans-congress-lay-groundwork-anti-transgender-push-2022-07-14/

Sadly, the RNP would look at these statistics and applaud the attempts and be right there to hasten the process. A sick view, but the actions of the RNP speak for themselves. I do not believe they place any value on our lives. This country is in trouble with the extremism.

Not being an alarmist, just pointing this out.

It's really nothing new.

Helps people feel like they belong to something.  Maybe like Boy Scouts, or Choir Robes?

Also helps intimidate the sheeple… cover the face - wear shades etc.  Even cops do it.

These federal bills may not be an immediate threat from the standpoint of state-sanctioned violence, but they are still a driving force in our country's culture. If 1 of the 2 major political parties in the US agree that trans people are bad as a tenet of their beliefs, then a huge swath of the culture will be sympathetic to those beliefs as if they're in any way valid. The majority may not logically agree with their conclusion, but any trans people harmed from the propagation of bigotry will be blamed along with the perpetrators of said violence, just as women are blamed every day for their being assaulted. I think it is most definitely alarming that the highest powers are shouting for our extinction and riling their bases to inflict their wraths upon us because the everyday hatemongers do not need a badge or a politician to sign a bill to have a reason to hurt us any way they see fit. Since so many of us are economically disenfranchised, we'll either be forced to detransition for survival, or forced to flee if we're able. Lamenting for the possible future and being prepared seems necessary at this point in history.

Well, the latest out of Florida is that the Agency for Health Care Administration has drafted guidelines to prevent Medicaid from being used to treat Gender Dysphoria in Florida. What in God's name did we do, other than being born, to be treated like vermin?

It is sickening to think that dictators like those in the Republican Nazi Party go unchecked in their zeal to hurt us. This is just another form of discrimination at its' worst. I wonder when, how fast, and how far the other Red states will go to adopt similar legislation? These political hacks sicken me to no end. I wonder when they will have us rounded up to be deported, "re-educated", or taken to the showers (or chambers depending on your viewpoint).

I can't help but think about that all the time. These bills are getting more and more extreme that it makes me so worried that one day I'll be forced to detransition just for survival's sake, wiping out all trace of me existing as my real self as best as I can. It's a big reason I don't have a Facebook, or attach any profile I own to my last name. Digital safety is paramount at this point in history because it will be and has already been weaponized against those they deem undesirable.

No luck there, really. She's getting a signing bonus plus a little extra that I don't think would cover much in the way of the move, but it is something!   Oh my! I am glad to hear you're not passing anymore blood. I hope they figure it out soon! How distressing!   @April Marie @KymmieL @Mirrabooka @Willow @Justine76, thank you for the kind words and thoughts! We told our best friends last night. There were many tears. Now it's all about the work: selling the house (my wife's friend's son said he may want to buy it direct!), a job (a former employee of mine wants to bring me over to his company--and they're based outside of Tacoma!), and moving (just started going through what we don't want bring and donating things). So things have kicked off.   I'm not so sure of the job, it would be good to work with my former employee (he's great) but I fear the culture may not be super welcoming to someone like me--and the guy doesn't know I'm trans in any way. But I'll give it a shot as my authentic self and see what happens!

@LadypcnjI'm sorry. I know the feeling my mom thinks I'm going through a phase too although I didn't come out till April 17, 2023, so it was later in life. I was in denial majority of my life. I would love to hear more about this if you are comfortable sharing more of it.

I love fashion. I have over 100 dresses and 74 pairs of shoes. My walk-in closet is full of other clothes as well. I'm getting more shorts soon. SHEIN is awesome for quality and price. Just when you get a leather coat from them it's just the shell not the liner. Most of my shoes are from Torrid because I wear size 13 women's.

I'm sorry @Ladypcnj I can only sympathize with you on that. Therapist on the other hand is crazy. I have had 16 in 10 years. It sucks having to have to go over things. I will say though after 6 therapists I didn't have to explain my history they simply read the history.

I don't use it.   One of my daughters gave me a little to experiment with, but I haven't.  My youngest tried to put some on me once, but I din't like it.  The light was pretty bad admittedly. My ex didn't use it, and my daughters didn't use it much either when they were still at home.  (If so it was very subtle) And I don't often notice it on women my age (mid 70's)   I shave every day.  But my beard is not heavy, and essentially grey, so it's not real noticeable unless you get close with good light.  I was starting to look into electrolysis, but the pandemic hit, and I just kinda dropped it.   Sometimes I do wonder about it though.
    • Justine76
It's something I'm just learning but I find I actually enjoy the 'craft' of it in addition to how it makes me look. Even after a fresh shave, I have a mild 5'clock shadow. For me, the primary use of makeup is to get rid of that. I'll start with the orange concealer over facial hair areas and a bit under my eyes. Liquid foundation over that and light concealer used judiciously over that (still dialing that part in). Then just a tad of powder to bring color back in certain places. There are a number of Youtube tutorials on that layering process.    I'll also pencil in my eyebrows a bit since they're blonde and otherwise not very visible. Sometimes I'll get adventurous and give mascara a try but that's a delicate skill and usually I mess it up. I don't particularly like lipstick, but just ordered a 'lip pencil' to experiment with. Hoping for a more subtle effect.

Sunday is my weekly ablution day - all of the parts that need occasional shaving get their required attention. The weather is rainy and cool today so after the ablutions and shower, I put on blue jeans, a gray t-shirt and a black front-zip hoodie along with gray sneakers.   And, I did put on make-up, not to impress anyone but just to feel as if I'm looking my best....as good as that can be given this woman is now 69 years old.

There are lots of us here willing to offer support, ideas, a shoulder or just a smile. Working with your therapist and finding your true self can be difficult process...but it will also be filled with wonder and joy as you discover that person who's been waiting inside you to be found.   Just know that you are not alone.
