Ftm Top Surgery And Insurance

I am already looking into my top surgery, even though i cant get it for about another year. I have heard that insurance companies will cover Breast Reductions under certain circumstances (Mainly, atleast 500 g needs to be removed from each breast, there has to have been documented physiological problems and stress due to the size of the chest, and you need letters of support from your PS and GP), and that if one wishes too, you can pay for the chest sculpting and toning out of pocket for a fraction of what the actual Top Surgery would cost as a whole. i am currently trying to get the info from my insurance company as to their specific policies regarding everything, and I am going to my GP soon to get their opinion on if I could be a candidate to have the reduction covered under insurance because I do suffer moderate problems with my posture, skin irritation, discomfort, etc because of the size of the chest. I figure a year will be enough time to meet other general requirements (complaints of pain and the like for an extended period of time, attempting other nonsurgical methods to reduce the physical symptoms, etc), but I know I'm going to need a PS on board to help me with the insurance company, and it will almost definitely have to be one with experience in dealing with insurance on the matter. Anyone try this method with thier insurance, and does anyone have any specific stories to give on their doctors in regards to this?

I don't personally know anyone who has managed to get chest surgery covered. The breast reduction route might work, if you find a surgeon that'll work with you. I'm pretty sure the surgeon I went to doesn't deal with insurance. You'd have to file yourself.

I know it's not the same thing but when I went to my doctor for my Orchiectomy I had been suffering from intense pain and chronic infections down there since I was 17. Got it paid for in full.

Something I wondered about too, _Michael.

Since my family has a long history of breast cancer, can that be covered as a preventive surgery by insurance? (prolly' not but...)

I think it's worth trying, or atleast looking into. I think the chances are better if you file for it before starting hormones (god knows we can't have the insurance getting one suspicion of "Transgender trying to pull something"). It's not possible to get the top surgery covered in FULL, but I know it is possible to get reductions covered (allbeit very difficult). It only stands to reason that if the reduc is covered then any surgeon would be okay with you paying the difference for the sculpting and nipple grafting out of pocket...

I know some guys get their top surgeries covered. I didn't personally, so I can't give you details. But I have heard of guys in the U.S. who got it covered.
