Mailed sex change marker to Social Security

StephieGurl

Recommended Posts

So, this morning I mailed off to Social Security all the necessary paperwork and documents for them to change my sex marker. This change will eventually go to my Medicare and Medicaid accounts, and so future providers need not know of the difference between feminine name and male sex marker. This should lead to appropriate gendering from medical professionals. If it goes about the speed my name change went through, it will be ab out 3 weeks for the change at Social Security and another 10 days for the changes with Medicare and Medicaid.

Congratulations on getting this done.  It is one more step.

To be honest I used to think it wasn't that necessary, but after being continually being misgender by 2 different people working at my Part D insurance. So, I had to wait for my one year hrt anniversary for my doctor to write the necessary letter. That went back and forth with the wrong birthday. But, then came the neck surgery all those opiates. It was like I didn't care whether it got done or not. Now that I have been off them for a couple of weeks my mind is clear or at much clearer I decide just do it. And, I have. I did not want medical providers and personal misgendering me based on the sex of male at Social Security. I still think of it as an add-on. My transition ended when my life was just life as a woman. That was my major goal. And it was accomplished after 3 year. What a journey. I couldn't believe it was possible at first (see my blog - Possible), and when I was done there were all these things I didn't expect (I have written a blog and reposted here about it.)

But thanks KathyLauren. It always nice to feel supported.🙂🙂

I couldn't wait to get all my documentation updated.  I applied for my name change the week after I came out publicly and went full-time.  I'd have applied for my gender marker change at the same time, but I was caught in a bureaucratic limbo.  (Nova Scotia, where I live, and the U.K., where I was born, had conflicting requirements.  Each wanted the other to go first.)  Once I got that sorted out, I got all my documents updated as quickly as humanly possible.

It is really nice to be gendered correctly at medical and other appointments.

I am gender correctly all the time at my medical providers. It was only Wellcare two employees. Even when I had my neck surgery the papers were all stickered as Female. I can not remember being misgendered by anybody, even in the beginning when Stephie was just my preferred name (hate that term). My urologist consistently genders me correctly even though he can see junk. No my life would be great right now if not for the opiate withdrawal. I am hoping In am nearing the end.

I really don't think that's a good idea. The unity of the LGB and T community is historic and has been central for both groups rights. And the vast majority of people advocating for splitting the two are transphobic LGB's who are broadly condemned by the community anyway.

A bit late in updating, but I've had the draft of the official diagnosis and have (as yet unconfirmed) an endo consultation next month.   Next to arrive will be the supporting documentation for my new passport application for my correct gender.  This will then be my official ID for all the other updates - bank, tax, payroll etc.   It just feels good to to be proactive again rather than waiting for other people to move at a leisurely pace.

I like ELF brand cosmetics, I can pick them up at JC Penny.    I wear makeup everyday, but mostly just very light makeup.

Hi Mae Be, whenever it comes to makeup, there are so many different bands to choose from. Picking out the right makeup comes with trial and error, until you find one that works for you and blends well with your skin tone, some makeup products can leave the skin feeling oily. It's a good idea to look at the labels on the makeup product to know what the creators put in the makeup, just in case skin allergies. Once you found the makeup brand, you can add it to your shopping list, good luck

To be fair I’m pretty lost when it comes to makeup technique. I’ve watched videos, but I have no idea what works for or would help my features. So I just bungle along, hoping I don’t look terrible.
