Most teens who start puberty suppression continue gender-affirming care

Probably not a big surprise to most of us.

I do find it ironic that in Jon Stewart's interview the AG had her "facts" completely inverted.

"Researchers found that a whopping 98% of people who had started gender-affirming medical treatment in adolescence continued to use gender-affirming hormones at follow-up. The finding is significant because of ongoing political debates over whether young people should receive gender-affirming treatment, with some opponents arguing that many transgender children and teens will realize later in life that they aren't really trans."

The "X spurts" that the Alabama Governor/ Legislature and the AG in the John Oliver interview relied on are "homies" in their state and are designated by their professional colleagues as highly problematic against current information and its interpretation.  (The other articles I have read on them have them selling their credentials to the highest bidder for recognition that their profession cannot give them by virtue of their biases or ignorance).  This is the study that was posted here a few days ago, but the fact that The Lancet which is the British equivalent of the Journal Of The American Medical Association which is respected on a worldwide basis and people claiming superior knowledge or status to it should be looked on with ordinary suspicion of an "I" strain problem.

The part that I was glad to see in this one is that they simply were NOT able to verify what happened to the remaining 2% and not that the people had stopped the medical transitioning process, and that they stated WHY they only know about the 98% figure.  I have personal knowledge of the "street market" and self prescription that goes on in the Trans population.

The finding that ALL the study subjects had had professional counseling before and during the time they were taking the Puberty Blockers to be sure that the blockers were doing the intended job for the patient.  My GT friends who work with youth and teens all point to the issue that their young patients are not as malleable to the therapist's and parents notions of the child being Trans, as the patients are knowledgeable and certain of their own identities with a maturity that is contrary to the "child owners" beliefs that adult reasoning only begins after puberty is over in regard to the younger patient's reasoning abilities.

The thing that is most bothersome is that none of these politicians have bothered to sit down and talk with folks like us who have lived this life.

Sadly, they are of the old idea that we are all mentally unbalanced and that they cannot have a discussion with us as peers.  It is the idea that insane people cannot direct their own care and need the capable public representatives to care for them even against the person's will.  We must be saved from ourselves.  We have actually had a Governor say that, and also other elected representatives.  They even claim they must protect children from parents and doctors as a matter of record.

I do go out and speak to local legislators and city council members who have and do listen to me as who I am, a sane, rational and intelligent person, and the results are what I think are needed.  A couple have been skeptical at the beginning, and reserved for a while longer, but who abstained from voting against the LGBTQ community.

This comic says a lot.

It says it all as far as what the "others aka Cis" do to us.  There are however safe places, including these forums for young people.  I actually leaked out a couple of angry tears and a whole heart full of compassion for the person there because I KNOW real people in that situation.

During COVID lockdowns without any place to go, some neighborhood buddies and I would play Life for hours (imagine a bunch of middle aged men playing that game, it was a hoot - all sorts of 'house rules')... anyways, as much as I could get away with it, I would choose a pink peg to represent myself... sometimes even had a female name to go with it... this was before I even really pondered whether or not I was trans ...   I was very determined to do this ... so interesting to look back and see all the threads pointing me to where I am now, though it has come as such a surprise as well...   Easy

Thank you all for the helpful responses... I realize some of HRT is for mental health -- like I said above I really am enjoying the ride so far in that regard!   Guess there is a part of me that wants to have my cake and eat it too. I want to have a nice feminine shape within reason for my age (fat distribution - you can kick in whenever you want!!). Yet, I am still not out to family, so I want it to be subtle enough as I go along that I can cover tracks when necessary ... Not the ideal situation but it is what it is ... maybe when family realizes that this is not making me into a monster, they will come around to some of it. I can hope, right?   More and more, I just want to look in the mirror and see a female body staring back at me ... I want female clothing that I put on to look like it fits me to a T... (and by T, I don't mean testosterone, lol)...    EasyE

Good afternoon M.A.   Welcome to Transgender Pulse Forums, I think you'll find that there are a lot of us who had their first therapist reconsidering our story and recommended us to gender or LGBTQIA specific therapist. I made my first therapist cry after asking me what was my worst experience or memory. She was not prepared for the can of worms I brought to the couch. My second therapist is a gem, she's my age and knows how to work with my thoughts.    My two kids were also involved in the arts programs in school one in theater, the other combined art and modern music.   Best wishes, stay positive, and motivated,    Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Welcome.   This can be a good sounding board and a place to say things you otherwise could not. Be yourself. Find out what that is.   Abby

I'm wearing a white t shirt and jeans.  The t-shirt is softer than a man's and slightly girly.  Feeling kinda pretty.

That's very common in internet forums and it is hard not to take it personally sometimes.   You might post "bump" with a smiley face to bring it to the top of the stack, or you might use the @ feature if there are certain people you would really like to have comment on it, and say something like Dear Abby, I would really like your input on this.  Please take a minute and respond.  Thanks!!!

The same for me... That's exactly were MmIndy came from. I started choosing female skins as soon as they became available in the few games I played.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Something else I noticed @Ladypcnj Since I use the Unread tab, I don't see threads I've read again until someone replies to it, or the author adds something.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Good morning @Ladypcnj   Some posts get lost in the busy times here. It also maters how people navigate the site. Some only look at their notifications, or tap the All Activity tab which shows them thread they've commented on. (how I see it)... I on the other hand use the Unread tag under Activity. I don't think people ignore post as much as they get caught up reading threads they've already been active in.   Best wishes, stay positive, and motivated,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋
