The best laid plans fall apart when life happens

At 72 I went back to work at a factory doing medium skill work.  My plans were to put all of every paycheck away to finance my transition.  After 12 weeks I was told to take the rest of the month off and call after the first to see if there was any work for me.  I know that 2 weeks is a short time to be laid off but I got the impression it could longer if more orders didn't come in.  So far I have saved enough to finance an orchiectomy and maybe voice surgery,  The plans were to save enough to finance facial feminization and/or a vulvoplasty.  The would take far more money than I have saved.  I just got told today so I'm felling a bit down.  I'll get over it but it is still disappointing.  My hopes are that I'll be called back next month but who knows.  It all depends on sales.  I almost feel like putting on a suit and going out consulting again.  I could raise all the money I would need and then some in less than a year.  And now that I am twice widowed (PM me if you want to know) being on the road would be less stressful.  I've also thoutghof taking up temporary residence in California so I could get Medicare and supplemental insurance to cover it.  Of course there's always the option of traveling to a foreign country for the operations.  These are all thoughts going through my head as I deal with the situation.  Just a rambling train of thought .

I'm sorry to hear that you got laid off, at least temporarily.  It does sound like you have a Plan B or Plan C if it came to that.  Please try and keep your hopes up.  We're all rooting for you, @LaurenA.  Hang in there!
