Me finding out about this: 

 

Yeah I officially hate my state now. This bill passing scares the hell out of me, especially for the trans youth that need this gender affirming care here in this state. Despite lots of allies of LGBTQ+ Iowans and the LGBTQ+ community and students showing up to protest these draconic bills, this stupid bill passed anyways. It's really a shame. I apologize on behalf of my state for the bigots....I assure you many of of us do not think this way. I sure as hell don't. I've been trying to show up to rallies and protests whenever I have been able to to protest this crap because I won't stand for discrimination! I wish the government would just leave us alone and let us live our lives with peace. This is stuff that keeps me up at night. But on Sunday, hundreds of LGBTQ+ Iowans and their allies showed up to protest these backwards bills...we'll keep showing up as much as we have to. The fight ain't over...not by a longshot!

We're not exactly responsible for how our state governments act.  I personally don't feel represented by mine at all.

They consider themselves to be Good People, and Leaders who know best.  They are honest and sincere, and not evil in their own minds.  They literally CANNOT SEE what they are doing to Trans children or elders.  That is not an excuse for what they have done, but it is a point of attack that we can, and must use. 

 

My maternal Grandmother was born in Iowa (Davenport) and was educated to become a teacher there, and I may have some 4th or 5th cousins living in the state.

The Iowa legislature is on a roll.  Now they've passed a "bathroom bill" restricting access to gender-appropriate restrooms.

Unfortunately, they have...I've been keeping up with it but it hasn't been easy for my mental health...which is why I've been keeping my distance somewhat from anti-trans stuff so I don't loose what sanity I have left. I am absolutely abhorred by what is happening in my home state. I hate everything about these bills. THey're so disgusting, cruel, and inhumane. I've been doing everything I can to protest where I can and advocate for trans rights in my state.

It is a pity that any state could discriminate against any group of citizens. Hopefully this storm of unneeded hate will pass soon.
