It's kinda amazing how big a deal trans people have become.

A few years ago this would have been absurd.

Howler Monkeys howl, whatever reason they can find.

There is a pleasing post-script to this saga. The very streets of Melbourne where the violence and right wing extremists had their way, were reclaimed by the trans community and their supporters on Visibility Day. Thousands gathered peacefully without incident:

The fallout from this anti-trans protest in Melbourne is still occurring. The conservative politician who was instrumental in getting Keen to be the keynote speaker at the rally has just lost her job! :D

So what happened since the rally was that Moira Deeming was suspended from the party room for her involvement and lack of denunciation of the naughty-word gatecrashers. Since then she filed legal action against her parliamentary boss, Victorian opposition leader John Pesutto, for supposedly aligning her with said gatecrashers.

No-one gets away with suing their boss without consequences.

Another extremely ultra-conservative Liberal upper house member, Renee Heath, who is heavily involved in the City Builders church, was also demoted. It is a concerted effort by Pesutto to mover his party back from the far right and towards the middle ground.

For clarity, the Liberal party here is our main conservative right-wing party. The ruling Labor party is the main progressive left-wing party. The Libs have always maintained that they are a 'broad church' happy to have elected members who have diverse world views. But they have been hijacked from within by far right zealots in recent years, both at state and federal levels. they have lost the middle ground and are now a rabble. Labor is now in control in all mainland states and territories. But the conservative parties still have the support of the tabloid press and Murdoch, of course, whipping up the Great Unwashed to the point of revolt. So, the anti-woke, anti-trans, anti-vax etc. mob are noisier than ever.

They did the same thing in British Columbia.  The right wing party (Social Credit) was burnt out and couldn't get any traction with the voters.  So they encouraged their members to take out memberships in the Liberal party (which, up until then had actually been liberal).  All their candidates ran as Liberals.  The result was a party called "Liberal" which was actually far-right.  It is all about bamboozling the voters.

I'm hesitant to believe any word out of a politician's mouth anymore.
