@Betty Keight months ago I "had" a Primary Care Doctor tell me that "They" have to make sure I'm not a crazy person who wants to cut of my genitals. I was also also asked in my evaluation if I got erections when I dress in womens clothes.  And if I had heard or seen things that other people didn't.

I have zero tolerance for doctors who get out of line like that.  My husband and GF have taught me that if I'm paying the bill, I get to call the shots.  Doctor doesn't own my life or my body...and if they act like they do, they get fired.  Medicine should be like other businesses - customer-focused (the customer is always right).  😉

You don't have to do things you don't want to do, and you don't have to answer questions you don't want to answer.  When in doubt, walk out!  And you can leave reviews online for doctors these days, just like other businesses.  Check them out before you go to an appointment, and leave feedback afterward.

@awkward-yet-sweetI forgot to mention that since I was asked those questions, I found out about Schizophrenia which includes delusions and anxiety.  And Transvestic Disorder which includes sexual arousal from cross-dressing.  So they must be making sure I don't have delusions of being a female and that I'm not trying to get in the womens bathrooms "aroused".

Yep, that sounds like the same sort of bs "treatment" I received. Old-fashioned gatekeeper behaviour that no-one should have to tolerate.

I hope you're joking here Vini! Obtaining sexual arousal from crossdressing is not a disorder so far as I'm aware.

There is a condition  called Fetishistic Cross Dressing, where the person ONLY uses the object of "Cross gender clothing" for the purpose of masturbation that is considered to be a mental disorder.  We do our best to keep them off of these forums.

Okay I stand corrected Vicki, but I am stunned and saddened that such a diagnosis still exists. Personally I am tired of the stigmatisation of sexual arousal in the context of crossdressing.

W/r/t your earlier comment about so-called gender identity disorder, SoC7 says: “transsexual, transgender, and gender nonconforming individuals are not inherently disordered. Rather, the distress of gender dysphoria, when present, is the concern that might be diagnosable and for which various treatment options are available. The existence of a diagnosis for such dysphoria often facilitates access to health care and can guide further research into effective treatments.”

But all this is probably best left for another discussion, which is why I didn’t reply earlier.

@Betty K  I was wondering why people kept calling me he like they will not accept my word that I'm a girl?  And why they are so afraid us going to the womens bathroom ?  Do they think I'm a Crossdresser ?  Do Crossdressers have some bad reputation ?  So I googled Crossdresser Disorder and Found Transvestic Disorder which is disruptive Transvestism which is the clinical term for men who are sexually aroused by Crossdressing.  Now I'm wondering, how is John Q Public supposed to know the difference between a Transgender person and a Crossdresser ?

Maybe all this salacious information is why the press is obsessed Transgender people.  Maybe they missed the memo that Gender Identity Disorder is no longer in the DSM-5, The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 5th Edition by the American Psychiatric Association, like Transvestic Disorder still is.

Or maybe the press are just a bunch of idiots obsessed with ratings? Who knows? There are lots of folks who are uninformed and eager to lash out at what they don't understand and/or love sensationalism. The media cater to them. In the pre-inte4rnet era, I remember those so-called "news break" commercials. They all followed a pattern: "Fire (or other disaster) breaks out at (insert address). 27 killed 14 injured. Film at 11:00. Stay tuned to (insert channel) for details." It may be that this is a continuation of that brand of yellow journalism. Just sayin'...

I may have mentioned this before here, but a huge problem comes from the internet itself from the Adult Entertainment industry where AE material is a big and lucrative business thus the greatest number of returns on the entry of an inquiry about Trans people or Cross Dressing bring up the lurid and expensive sales sites for magazines and videos of a variety of sexual fetish and fantasy sites.  I actually had to deal with a problem at the civil law enforcement job I retired from of an employee accessing those sites both on agency time and agency computer equipment.  The matter was uncovered when an internet security report showed the sites are highly dangerous to our highly confidential official information ans in-house servers. (This was a state tax agency,)  The person was addicted to pornography, which is a recognized "process addiction" in the same vein as gambling addictions.  During the beginning weeks of my last medically supervised alcohol addiction recovery I was in a group session where we had people with pornography and other sexual addictions where I got to learn some things I cannot say I ever wanted to learn.  Conversations with actual members of the counseling community show that the problems is more wide spread that is talked about for what it is. These problems do tear up families and as I spoke about, create hazards for employers in the case of confidential tax information being compromised by invasive web sites.  This is compounded by our very restrictive concepts of "normal and acceptable" human sexuality that may be in need of some updating based on 5 sense scientific information.

The Wikipedia entry on Paraphilias notes that decisions on what is normal and abnormal human sexual activity are and have been in a state of heavy flux since the 1940's and even before.  The changes in the professional manuals of the highest medical authorities in the field of sexology have had notable changes in each edition that classify more forms of human sexuality as normal over the years.  Our social and religious communities however resist updating their public approaches to match the march of science.

*VickySGV Good points.  Congratulations to you on getting through all that.  Too bad we didn't bring some European attitudes with us when we came over.  No wonder they called them Puritans.  Did you know that in the unhealthy politics Burning of the Books they were burning the Library of the Institute for Sexual Science 1919-1933 started by Dr. Hirschfeld in Berlin.  They had even identified Transgender People,  Unfortunately Dr. Hirschfeld found out about the Burning on a newsreel in a Paris Theatre.

I can't complain about the site protection against some unhealthy politics.  I definitely don't want hurt anyone.

Yes I did, the picture is in one of my "Trans 101" presentations that I do in public through my LGBTQ Center.

US would bar full ban on trans athletes but allow exceptions.

Schools and colleges across the U.S. would be forbidden from enacting outright bans on transgender athletes under a proposal released Thursday by the Biden administration, but teams could create some limits in certain cases — for example, to ensure fairness.

The proposed rule sends a political counter-punch toward a wave of Republican-led states that have sought to ban trans athletes from competing in school sports that align with their gender identities. If finalized, the proposal would become enshrined as a provision of Title IX, the landmark gender-equity legislation enacted in 1972.

@VickySGV I wonder how much of the discrimination and objectivication of trans folks ends up feeding the adult industry?  Like, those who have employment issues turning to AE for income when they'd be safer and happier doing something else.  And then minds of people who view that material are formed by what they see, making the situation worse.... How does something like that get reduced or stopped?

Adult Entertainment is a subset of the Sex Worker population.  I have Trans friends in my area that do sex work and are fine with it and look at it as a vocation or calling and same for AE roles involving XX sex.  The same goes for Cis men and women in about the same way and percentage. The money is not as great as non-sex dramatic roles, but work is work Other Trans do it because it is money they cannot get otherwise for both the videos and street work although with efforts of about 3 groups traditional employers are being educated to employ Trans workers in better fields.  I no longer have statistics on this, but I am sure they can be found.

Until recently (10 years) mainline acting roles for or that can be played by Trans people were few and far between, but in the recent 10 years we have been making strides by Trans screenwriters (the old Transparent series), directors and producers (Wachowski sisters) and Trans actors who can play into Cis Roles or roles beside accepting Cis actors.  We do have people to fill all those roles, and a little bit of gnudging has made casting directors more aware of hazards with Cis People playing Trans roles. There is something to the replacement theory of job choice going on here for sure with most liking the idea a Legitimate stage presence gives them.  The film series Pose and others are evidence here that good stuff is just that.

I'm aware many sex workers indeed feel empowered in their work. There is an organized movement in Miami to decriminalize sex work and provide specialized healthcare for workers. One of the organizers posted a perspective recently which I found remarkable. They commented that not only is sex work often stigmatized as unsavory and degrading, but that moreover such biases may also be considered ableist as there are many disabled sex workers (this organizer, being one) who do the work because it's something they can do - something which provides them agency, managing their time and level of activity to accommodate their disability.

As a Transfeminine going through Transition, I wonder if I really want to compete with all this just to feel comfortable going to the bathroom, or watching  the news.  But now that I know what I'm up against, I can take it in stride, keep a low profile,  and wear some shoes I can run in.   I've only had two drive by johns stop and proposition me and I walk almost every day.  But going back in the workforce is going to be a whole different adventure.  If I do surgery, I may have a year plus to figure that out. Thank you all !

If 9 out of 10 parts are ok, that doesn't mean I need to accept the bad parts (that are aimed directly at me).  That seems suicidal.
    • Ivy
True, most of it has nothing to do directly with us.  It's the parts that do that are the problem.   I see the  few problematic statements as being a big problem.  Just because a lot of it may be okay, doesn't change that. Even supposing the rest of it might be good for the country, it doesn't help me if I'm being "eradicated".  I suppose I should be good with that, because it's for the "greater good".  If me being gone would please a number of people, then it's my civic duty to disappear, and vote to implement that.
    • Ivy
Yeah.  There are already laws against assault.  I don't think the overwhelming majority of trans women have any desire to harass cis women.  Speaking for myself, if I go into a women's washroom, it's because my eyeballs are already floating - not for kicks.  And I worry about getting clocked and assaulted by some guy being a "hero."

Only three, maybe four, sections even mention transgender.  Most is a conservative agenda I have no problem with.   In the sections that mention transgender, there are very few lines.  Those lines ARE problematic, in every case. Unequivocally.  I can't see some of them standing up in court.  In one case a recommended policy goes against a court decision, which strongly suggests the implementation of that policy would be stopped in court.    Anyone maintaining that this is written simply to support Trump, to support him becoming a dictator, to crush transgender people is feeding you a line.  Nor is it an attempt to erase transgender people.   People will have to decide if the overall goals are worth the few problematic statements.  Overall, I support it.  Of course, I have some reservations.
    • Abigail Genevieve
It is unfamiliar, therefore threatening.   For 90% or so of the population, gender id can be simply and quickly determined by a quick anatomical observation.  They have no understanding and cannot imagine what it would mean to have a body different from the id.  It is unimaginable.  Therefore, wrong.   So there is this strong headwind.   I haven't entered this discussion, but here is a script: A: I can't imagine what it must be to have TG. B: You're a man, right? A: Well, of course. "amused" B: Imagine you were required by law and custom to wear women's clothing all the time. A: It wouldn't happen. B: Okay, but for the sake of the argument... A: That would be disgusting.  I would be very uncomfortable. B: You have it.  That is what TG people go through all the time. 24-7-365. A: Really? B: And then they are told they are perverts for having those feelings.  The same you just described. A: I see. B: And someone comes along and tells you you need conversion therapy so you will be comfortable wearing women's clothing all the time. A: I think I would break his nose. B: You understand transgender folk better than you think.

I have found some people correlate TG = child predator ... just as some have correlated homosexual = child predator...    I am baffled by the TG = unsafe connection ... my wife tends to think this way, that this is all about sexual deviancy ... I try to ask how my preference for wearing frilly socks with embroidered flowers and a comfortable camisole under my lavender T-shirts is sexually deviant (or sexual anything) but I don't get very far...
    • EasyE
Best wishes to you as you take this step ... many blessings to you!

Not sure.  The perp is a minor.  The problem here is NOT transgender, the problem here is incompetent and criminal administration.  See https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/family-of-loudoun-co-student-sexually-assaulted-ineptitude-of-all-involved-is-staggering/3231725/ It is more than annoying that people think the problem here is TG and that other people think the solution is some stupid statewide law.  Like an appendectomy to deal with an ingrown toe nail.    Since Loudon, I recall a boy was asked not to use the girl's restroom at a high school by one of the girls.  He, overwhelming her with height and weight,  assaulted her, claiming he had a right to be there.   Later I think eight girls beat him severely in another girl's restroom.  Again the problem is not transgender, the problem is assaults in restrooms and common courtesy.  TG is used as a smokescreen and it seems to paralyze thought among administrators who do not want to do anything to provoke controversy.

Time to get with your Primary Care doctor and be referred to a neurologist or an orthopedist.  It could be many things, too many for any of us here to guess at.

Other than the Boy Scout motto, oath, and law. I use two:   When asked how I'm doing? In all honesty I reply. I would have to make something up to complain. If asked to explain further: I reply. I know someone is having a tougher time than I am, and I pray God blesses them.   I also recite this quote that I have tagged in my signature: Courage, doesn't always roar. Sometimes it's the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "I will try again tomorrow."-Unknown    Saying these things daily keep me motivated.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

If this goes on, I am conceding the real possibility of being stopped in WM or somewhere by a concerned citizen who tells me, "Lady, God made you female.  I don't think you should be trying to look like a man. You need to return to your true gender and be comfortable living your life out as a woman."   Begin odd and awkward conversation.  I have been thinking about this this morning.

There are many MAGA GOP types who are not transphobes, of course. Some MAGA GOP types are transgender.

I'm hoping to read the next section today.  Many of the reforms they are calling for are good, such as expediting the military procurement process, and have nothing to do with transgender issues.
