First time out of the house

Nicole D

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I drove to the local nature preserve. There were only a few people around. Walked around for a bit, took some photos and enjoyed the sun. This is the first time I have been out of the house en femme. White blouse, skinny jeans and low heels. I was a bit nervous but gradually worrying less and smiling more. The feeling driving back I can only describe as joy. Wow.

Well done. I've yet to go out in public, so can understand the nervousness. Sounds like you did great.

Lovely photo btw. Definitely the right day to go out 🌞

What a lovely way to have a day out as yourself!  One of my first journeys was to a local county rose garden.  Your story reminds me of that trip.  Like you i was driving on clouds all the way home!

Hugs,

Charlize

You look absolutely lovely, Nicole. Beautiful in fact.  :)

I remember in my intro you commented that I was further down the path to you, no way! You're miles ahead of me! Kudos!

Nicole,

It's great to be out and about where no one knows your name, or back story.

Just a woman out enjoying the Sun.

Hugs,

Hi @Nicole D, “Wow!” is my response too. I can imagine just how wonderful and free that experience felt. I can still remember every detail of my first time out presenting female. Moments like that stick with you for life. I bet at the time you wished that drive back was a little longer but you know now that it won’t be the last time you feel like this. This is the start of some exciting times ahead. The courage to get out and be yourself is so worth it! I’m so happy for you.

Congratulations,

Susan R🌷

I remember the first time I did this in the day, not at night under cover of darkness, but out-out to the shops.  No-one batted an eyelid, and after a bit I got the courage to go into a department store and the cashier even recommended some lingerie (I had to buy a bra, so nervous!) I had missed it my haste to be in/out as fast as possible.

I have a distinct memory of going back outside and just sitting on a bench, in the centre of town, in the sun, and just feeling normal for the first time in SO long.  I hadn't experienced any of the transphobia that social media leads will have you believe is held by the 'majority'.  Honestly no-one cares, as long as you are not being wacky and strange you get treated like any other by the vast majority of people.

I've been presenting femme at work for almost a month now and even though I was 'deadname' for 6 years to these people around me not a single one has missed a beat, and my boss has asked me to go out with her to lunch today to look at makeup etc!  (Apparently there is a Charlotte Tilbury dupe in Primark of all places).

You've taken the first step into a much larger world, many congrats, we hope to see you blossom :D

Thank you so much Susan and Jupiter for your support and encouragement. Tomorrow I have my first session with a GT. I think it will be a slow process but I am looking forward to getting the ball rolling.

Jupiter, your first trip out sounds wonderful. You're very courageous. I bought my first bra and underwear while dressed male. That was a bit embarrassing but worth it. I'm happy to hear that your workplace is adapting well, you have a great boss. Enjoy your lunch and shopping.

Hugs,

Nicole.

When I was only out to a very few, I was buying a pack of camis at the K-Mart.  I looked and a woman I knew from church-type places was behind me and gave me a funny look.  I just smiled, shrugged, paid the cashier, and went on my way.   "The cat's out of the bag now."  LOL
