Well, look at you!

Congratulations!

Now remember to remove all tight clothing around your chest because if you got the good stuff you don't want to rip any clothing. :D

I'm sorry, Donna Jean has informed me that no one turns green and clothing isn't shredded by sudden development.

Well, it's a nice thought.

Congratulations again.

Love ya,

Sally

Congrats this a birthday of sorts, it's a day you won't forget.

Did your Doctor tell you to take the Estradiol sublingually, disolve under the tongue, it helps to get it into the blood stream directly bypassing most of the processing by the liver.

My Endo when i asked him said there was no proof that taking Estradiol sublingually was any better than swallowing it, but a friend who just graduated nursing school says it does, i am taking it sublingually.

With Spiro swallow the tablet, be sure to drink plenty of water, if you crave salty foods have them and avoid potassium, Spiro retains potassium and if the levels build up it can be dangerous, under a doctors care and blood tests you should be ok.

HUGS!

Gotta be careful, not all tablets are made to be used sublingually. Ask the doctor first.

But yes, you do get a higher effective dose by this method. That's because the stomach usually destroys some of the medication before it can be absorbed.

And do NOT try that with Spiro, they may smell minty, but they are N-A-S-T-Y tasting.

Welcome to the other side. It takes about a month, but soon you will be chemically female! That is a heady thought! So you will notice a lot of psychological changes - really in your mind - at first. These are GRAND!

And then the changes will start in earnest. It's differenent for everyone so stay with us and ask questions if you need to. A lot of us in transition here now... me included... so PM if you get depressed or super cry-baby. BUT again GRAND - so happy birthday.

And the sublingual designed estradoil pills will have a sweet taste.

Congratulations! I remember the rush when I started. In those days it was an injection. I have been out of the loop for a very long time and am unfamiliar with Spironolcatone. I've been on Premarin since it was first released I think. So what does Spiron... do? I have heard from the buzz from newbie MTFs at work that Estradiol is preferred over premarin and the ladies have convinced me to make an appt with thier favorite Endocrinologist (scheduled for next month) to get my meds checked by someone current in the HRT field, but I would appreciate your insight before I see him.

I know we cannot discuss much about this, but I hope this much is OK. I have been on the same (light) Premarin dose for at least 20 years, after about a decade of psychiatrist/endocrinologist/primary care physician struggling with what made sense in the early '70s. There was so little data back then. Now I hear that what has kept me alive may be harmful. Hasn't yet, and I get quarterly bloodwork & liver analysis 'cause of Type II diabetes so I (and my various doctors) are reasonably sure that Premarin hasn't damaged me.

Still, I have recently been pinged by a couple of new ladies about my experiences and they shared concerns about what I am taking and convinced me to get fresh advice. They also pointed me to this site, of which I was completely ignorant until a couple of days ago. I have been missing out. On a lot. Things have changed!

Anyway, to the extent permitted, what can you tell me?

Hey, Allison!

Well, Sweetheart...Spiro, as it is also called for short, is an anti-androgen. It doesn't stop testosterone, but it blocks it's use in the body , meaning that your estrogen doesn't have to work so hard ....of course that is for pre-op. Post-op it's no longer used as your source for testosterone is gone!

And for estrogen I take Estradiol as do a bunch of the other girls here!

Premarin is made from pregnant mare's urine and the collection method is suspect at best.

Also I believe that Premarin is harder on the liver, but, I'll have to look that up. The Estrodiol that most of us take is taken sublingual (melted under the tongue) and has less effect on the liver!

Also Leah has told us that pills swallowed loose a lot due to digestion!

I know we cannot discuss much about this, but I hope this much is OK. Hon....we can talk all about what you and I are discussing here...we just don't discuss doses as that seems to encourage self medicating! And I think that it's a wonderful idea to get checked again and upgrade your meds ...safer things have become the norm over the years...I don't think that I know of any Transwomen that take Premarin..(could be wrong there....)

Still, I have recently been pinged by a couple of new ladies about my experiences and they shared concerns about what I am taking and convinced me to get fresh advice. I'm so sorry that you have missed out on so much, but now that you are here I think that you'll really love it! The folks here are amazing, loving, caring...we're a safe site and we're G or PG rated!

And if you want to or need to ...feel free to PM me (private message) anytime and I'll help you out to the best of my ability!.....OK?

Anyway, to the extent permitted, what can you tell me?

I hope that I answered some of your questions here....

Allison
