TW--LGBTQ Accepting Episcopal Church Near Me Has Received Bomb & Shooting Threats

The Episcopal Church Parish that is a neighbor of my own Parish has received threats of a bombing and a shooting for its nationally known ministry to the LGBTQ community.  The Church that has been threatened has a 40 year history of embracing first, the LGB community with blessings of same sex domestic commitments before The National Episcopal Church and our State validated same sex marriages.  More recently it has embraced Trans people and conducted one of the first Rite Of Renaming services in 2019, just after the approved service was authorized by the National Church. I have attended conferences there on ministry to the Trans Community on several occasions. I do not go to it regularly on Sundays since my own parish is in my closer neighborhood but I am a regular, known visitor and participant in its events for Trans people, including Trans Day Of Remembrance both from my denominational affiliation and from LGBTQ Community Center officership.

The threatened church is in the City Of Pasadena, CA and is literally across the street from the City Hall and PD and diagonally across from a regional County Courthouse.  All of them are now part of a team to prevent violence on the site, and I just watched a message from the Rector there about church attendance this Sunday.  The matter is being taken seriously, but I am feeling an anger that is going to be upsetting me until I know there is an all clear.  Our current Hate Spate has come too close for comfort to me, even in a place that I know is one of the safest for me to be.  Please be on the alert, churches are not excluded from the hatred happening these days.

Sorry to hear this news, @VickySGV.  It is a nasty sign of the times.  Hopefully, it is just a threat without any real danger associated with it.

HUGS

The Pasadena PD and County Sheriff's Department are taking it VERY SERIOUSLY, and they will be having security monitored and limited access to the church and other buildings on its campus.

I'm not surprised to hear something like this, but it's just sickening. And I know we are not immune anywhere.

No harm or damage was done to the church, nor any firearms detected among those entering the church.  Our Diocesan Bishop attended the service with a show of solidarity of the entire Diocese for all of it's LGBTQ members throughout our area.  Still, it was terrible for one ministry of a church to be targeted with such threats of hate.

That's a relief for now. I hope the church continues to be safe.

Wow.  Unfortunately, churches in general are a target these days...for all sorts of reasons.  My own faith community has had a security force for a long time, including armed personnel at services.  Can't be too careful.

Years ago, when we were all in an uproar over terrorism, I remember briefly worrying about being attacked in church by Islamic terrorists.  I now know know that our biggest threat in our places of worship is from our home grown religious fanatics, most of whom claim to be Christian.  It is a shame that our houses of worship are coming under threat merely because they take Jesus seriously and believe in "love your neighbor as yourself."

Personally, I think the moderators here strike the perfect balance, and I'd like to thank you all for your efforts.

Don't forget TJ Maxx for purses.  I have purchased several from there.  They offer a great variety with good prices.  You can even find high-end bags at affordable prices.   @Ladypcnj purses are one of my weaknesses as well.

When I get stuck in androgynous mode for an extended period I have to admit that I salve the dysphoria at times through retail therapy.    And, I've been busy. I search for bargains a lot of eBay, put items on my watchlist, wait for an offer and then typically make a lower counter-offer. Most of the items I buy are new. The strategy has gotten me some amazing deals on brand name clothes.   I will also admi to being a Talbot's Girl and all these are Talbot's items. Their clothes just seem ti fit me well. New in my closet are:

We have even had them here from time to time I am afraid.   The rights of Free Speech actually carry a weighty responsibility to take the consequences of making that speech and it is that responsibility where the persons making the FREE hateful statements break down.  They insist that the Right shields them from the consequences, but it makes them all the more liable for them in reality.

When and if a post is removed here, there is always a PM to the poster to explain the action and offer them an opportunity to amend the post to align with T&C's (if possible).     Certainly!  There are always those who will flaunt the rules.

Actually, Memorial Day is the day where we remember and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.   Veteran's Day, November 11th, is the day where we honor all who served.   Here is something I found that distinguishes among Memorial, Veteran's and Armed Forces day.

I think Norstrom and Marshalls would be the top leading stores for both fashion and their collections of purses.

Welcome to TGP, Amy! You'll find many like-minded people here as well as tons of information. Don't worry about trying to describe yourself. Relax, ask questions, and join in where you feel comfortable.    I started out like you, crossdressing in private, even hiding it from my wife, before coming to the realization that it was much more. I'm still only out to my wife, therapist and priest.....and, of course, everyone here. We all understand how difficult it can be to find oneself amid the emotions and challenges.    We are each unique yet share many commonalities.    We're glad you found us!

I was doing my best to get past the fear and shame i felt whenever i went out in public so when i went to therapy and later to my doctor i presented as the woman i felt myself to be.  There was a policy that one had to live as their chosen gender for a year prior to starting HRT.  In some ways that seemed almost right to me as one of the hardest things we do is the entry into society as ourselves.     Of course the way you dress is up to you but be assured that your doctor is there to support not denigrate your decision.   Hugs,   Charlize

You are right, there are no actual 'roos in Tassie, just their smaller cousins like wallabies and pademelons. Devils are really cute. If you got to see the adults in full noise, you can easily understand why they got portrayed that way in the Looney Tunes cartoons! Emus, or 'bush chooks', have a habit of sneaking up on you and stealing food. I was at an open range zoo a few years ago and was holding a bag of pellets behind me to hide it from the emus in front of me, when one snuck up behind me and stole it. I've never jumped so high in my life! I almost needed to change my undies! 😆
