A great interview with Trans journalist Erin Reed on fighting anti-LGBTQ+ hate and transphobia

Trans journalist Erin Reed on fighting anti-LGBTQ+ hate and working at the coalface of transphobia.

“We have states like Florida which are criminalising transgender people in bathrooms,” she continues. “We’re seeing bills that will forcibly detransition people, and these things are very frightening.”

But, the negative treatment of the community by lawmakers isn’t country-wide, with states such as Washington and California becoming safe havens for queer citizens to migrate to.

Not mentioned in this is that the bills are all from a single set of sources that are milling them to the legislators which saves the pol's time and actual thought above an intestinal (or lower) level.  There is money money money involved in those sources as a heavy problem for us.

As a Californian I am glad to know of our safety, and with a tiny bit of "survivors guilt" for my relative safety I am sad to say that it is our own right-wing residents that are responsible for the high cost of housing and inability of local government to help in reducing it that our Trans communities already in the state endure.  Not just Trans, though, but our increasing problem with homelessness as a whole.  Not really "out of the frying pan and into the fire" as some describe it for Trans refugees, but still a problem the whole distance.   It is a long sad history dating back nearly 100 years.

We need good people like Erin to continue to keep watch over these attempts to stifle, intimidate and harass us.  Organizations like HRC, NCTE, TLC, and TLDEF are also working everyday to fight this ugliness.  Those of you who have the resources to donate to any of these organizations will be doing the community a service.  You would be surprised to learn of the myriad corporate and non-profit donors who pour millions of dollars into these support organizations.  We can't fight this fight effectively as single individuals.  We can only fight it together.

Note:  I am a Board member of the NTCE.
