Starting HRT today!

Hey y'all, it's been a hot minute since I've posted. To update those who may remember me, I am finally fully out and have started presenting as fully female on my days off, and working on doing the same at work. I have a gender therapist. I moved to northern California a month ago. Today, I had an appointment at Planned Parenthood to get on HRT and just picked up my prescriptions about an hour ago. So, wow! A lot has been going on! Why I am posting this here, is because my mom was on HRT over a decade ago for some hormone rebalancing and got a DVT blood clot as a result. She went to the ER and was ok ultimately, but had to be put on blood thinners and it was an ordeal. I know and support the rule for this forum that we don't discuss dosages and give medical advice. I am wondering though, what, if any, related issues have any of you had starting estradiol and were you concerned as I now am about beginning this process? I got this info after I left PP so I messaged my clinician so she can think about how we want to proceed given  my mother's medical history. I feel bummed that I have come this far and now have this scary thing making me question what I should do.

I usually post what my endo said when I started, 'let's get this party started!'

Not sure if that's the mood you're in, but she also seemed to downplay the blood clot worries, but I didn't have the same history. She did say to take baby aspirin for long sitting spells like long airplane flights.

But you did tell your provider about that medical history of your mom?

That's great news Vanessa,

There are side affects for most of the medications we take, and keeping you health care team aware of family history, and other factors in our life are important. Risk/Benefit is always considered when taking a daily medication.

Sounds like you're on your way!  Fasten your seatbelt!

As a cardiac patient with a history of heart attacks and clots i am quite sensitive to this issue.  Perhaps you should speak to your medical provider about using a topical E.  That method has been shown to be the safest.  I've been using topical E using sprays, cream or patches for many years without issues beyond those i had experienced prior to starting over 11 years ago.

Hugs,

Charlize

Thanks everyone! I'm attending my first Pride parade this Saturday. I'm excited and a bit nervous as well. I am going fully female presenting for it with far less makeup than I really should. Lol

What an uplifting update @Vanessa Michelle! It’s great to see you posting again too. Sounds like there have been some big changes since you last visited. I’m so happy you’re able to present yourself more freely now. This is such an exciting time for you I have to assume.

Charlize has some great advice here. I was using the pill format for years and was worried about experiencing a DVT but then at the advice of my PCP, I switched to patches. I’m able to keep my levels where they need to be and I feel a little less worried about any side effects. It’s also nice to that I no longer have to administer pills 3 times a day as I did in the past. With patches, it’s a once week change out and I never accidentally miss a dose.😃

Welcome back to the pulse,

Susan R🌷

@Vanessa Michelle that is so lovely to hear.

A friend of mine has DVT issues and not gender related, it was cycling related. Some of the advice he received was to ensure he didn't get dehydrated (thickens the blood) and to have his legs massaged after moderate to high intensity exercise (improves the blood flow of the muscles).

Many of us have in the back of our minds the potential for DVT and blood clots in general due to our medical and family histories. Being informed of the risks and getting to know your primary health provider so that any adverse events can be minimized (urgh Murican spelling - its minimised :P ).

Hugs

Robyn

Thank you, Robin and Susan! I appreciate your responses. I started my pills along with a OTC low-dose aspirin regimen just to make myself feel a little better. My PA got back to me today and said after reviewing what I said about my mom she still feels there’s no special risk for me because that was an isolated incident not a family history. I did ask about transdermal estradiol and I’m waiting to hear back about that. It’s great to see you again Susan.🩷

Congratulations Vanessa! I didn't start too much sooner than you did 19 days ago. The testosterone blocker has made me nauseous but no other nasty side effects. I definitely feel better about myself. I don't feel as depressed. A lot of it has to deal with being over in Iraq but also disgusted with my physical body too.

Society is preserved by passing on proper roles for people, which works for the 90+ percent that it works for.   We were all taught from an early age that breaking out of the classification was a shameful thing, even when, actually, it is not.

I'm probably showing my age.  I haven't looked at a guest count in a long time.  Doing FB and staying off forums for a while.  Previous forum use had fewer bots if any and guests were actual people, mostly, unlike today.    Any AIs or bots struggling with GD are welcome.  I would love to read your introduction.

I've seen this on a lot of forums tbh. That's how a lot of content ends up on internet archives. You've got loads of bots scanning the site at all times and archiving it. Forums are actually nice (in comparison to social media) in that the guest count gives you a pretty good idea of how actively the site's content is being archived. Basically just don't post anything you don't want archived.

Kids are resiliant with therapy and strong support ;-)    They were all elementary age when their dad died and are teens now, and how they've grown and developed as young people, already, takes my breath away.   I'm working on communicating changes clearly and without shame, which is difficult basically all the time because of feeling guilty over doing gender "wrong" for so long. Working on that myself! <3

Allow me to add that people should think twice about posting pictures of themselves, with the facial recognition software that is out there.  Those in stealth or who are not fully out may discover they are suddenly and unwillingly fully out in ways they wish had not happened.

Funny how when i read the topic name i thought you were asking about the study of plants and animals.  I'm a bit into that as a farmer at va time when a cell phone makes plant  for insect identification easier than it has ever been.    Now on to your topic.  I don't farm in the nude.  I have wondered at whether i would skinny dip as i did as a kid without thought of how my body might affect others.  The effects of hormones makes me different from the average person and perhaps i'm "neither fish nor fowl".  I would certainly depend on who my fellow passengers on that cruise would be.   Hugs,   Charlize

This is also a relatively small forum and it can take a long time, seemingly, for someone to get around to replying to a post.
    • Charlize
I am also pretty sure that several of them are folks who are "trans curious".  Sometimes folks who are trying to find their own identity, are attracted to trans folks or who are simply interested in the trans community.   There may also be some who wish to do us harm which is why ......... I've just learned to smile figuring "i'm on candid camera".   I'm sure many of our younger members never experienced that show so my age is showing.   Hugs,   Charlize

Most of those "guests" are web bots from China, Indonesia, France etc. looking us over. They are mostly benign.  All they can see or gain access to are the general forums.  Members should be careful not to post anything that could readily identify themselves such as real names, addresses, phone numbers, etc. They do not have access to our gallery, blogs or private messenger. They seem to haunt all forums. Not just us. I should add that they can make us known across the internet. That's how prospective members find us. Google would be a good example.

I hope he gets what he deserves.

Heck I didn't even know they could go up that high! I just have a four burner and one to keep stuff warm. What kind of pies did you make?
    • MaeBe
I'm sure you'd rock it, girl!

That's all the matters.   Well me and the wife rode to Perkins for breakfast. As we were waiting for our food. Being it is Sunday There are a few gentleman in suits, my guess from church. I think to myself. I hope I never have to wear one of those monkey suits ever again. Now a nice dress maybe.   Hugs,   Kymmie

From time to time I've looked at 'Who Is Online" and I have consistently noticed that members are ALWAYS outnumbered by Guests by a wide margin, sometimes, like a minute ago, by more than a 10:1 margin.  I have never seen that before on an internet forum.  It can be explained partly by the nature of what this is, that it draws the curious and they are certainly welcome to read here, and to join, but it leaves me with a feeling of being in a fishbowl.  I wonder who ARE these people?  Donald Trump, is that you? Biden? Sinwar? Putin?  We can only guess.
