renewing drivers license questions

friends,

i am pre HRT, n not ready to legally change my name  n missy is a transition identity, n not sure I'm completely out though I live as missy 99% of time.

 

so my drivers license is up for renewal in next 6 months. at that time it's customary to submit to new picture too. 

 

question, do I go as missy jo n take pic as her with my male name or dress M for that visit, or what do you suggest??

You would need to check the regulations on your state's DMV website so you don't run afoul of the law.  I would guess that you have to dress as you customarily would, including hair style.  For instance, if you don't ordinarily wear a wig, wearing one in the photo is probably not allowed.

In most jurisdictions, your name has to be your legal name.  So if you have not changed that, you will have to use your old name. 

 

You want your photo to match your normal appearance, so that, if you happen to randomly get your ID checked for some reason, they will know that it is you.  So if you are Missy 99% of the time, it should be Missy's photo.

 

Transitional driver's licenses are a pain.  For a couple of years, mine had "Kathy Lauren ______" for my name, Kathy's photo, and a great big "M" for sex.  😥  But eventually, as you meet all the legal requirements, things will come back into alignment.

thank you ladies. sounds like sound advice. sort of ..nervous about having an official ID with missy pic..but hey, you're right, she's presented 99% of time n I often worry about a traffic stop turning ugly. thank you both

I switched genders and got a new pic on my last renewal, even though that meant going in person instead of just clicking on the internet.  So glad to have the F not the M on there.

sadly I expect mine will still say M for a bit..hoping to get control of my hair n better with makeup before the pic..giggles

I did my license changes in two phases.  I had gone full time so i had to get a new picture.  The woman who took the picture smiled when she asked if i wanted the old one.  Soon i was back for the name and gender change.  Too bad that i never got carded in my 60's.  I would have loved it.

I'd expect after getting the new one we'd all be anxious to pull it out n show it, carded or not. giggles
