NC Is Slipping Into the Red State Fold and I'm Worried

Our Democrat Governor's veto had been a curb on the Republican legislature.  But with the defection of one Dem in the house, that is gone.

So now the right-wing is starting to make their move.  They are reviving the anti-trans bills that would have been vetoed by Governor Cooper.

Sure, I'm personally not a minor, but there are plenty of trans kids that are.  And of course we've seen in other states that these attacks do not stop there.

I can't really leave - and I don't want to.  I'm in my 70's and most of my life has been right here in this county.

I'm just getting very discouraged.  I keep hoping this will blow over, but it won't.

Now the Republicans in congress are beginning to probe on the national level.

I'm afraid we are moving toward Right-wing Minority Rule in this country.

Perhaps this should be in another forum.  IDK, whatever.

Pardon but i never have thought of NC as a blue state.  It has been nice to see some change but i'm sure the GOP will do its best to slither back into power.

Democrats can win statewide races.  But Republican gerrymandering helps them maintain control of the legislature (and in the US congress).

The rep who switched parties was from an overwhelmingly blue district.  But the Republicans will redraw her district to keep her safe.  The more urban areas are fairly blue, and are a large part of the population.

Another domino likely to fall.  Maybe the Governor can veto the worst of it.

On the other side of the street, a far right and "news??" source that shows up on one of my browsers is melting in its nuclear reactor about a Federal Judge deciding that Trans people's feelings were more important than First Amendment Rights.  (Related to a case where a 5tth grader was made to change a shirt that had a logo about ONLY TWO genders being made by a deity.)

A bill moving through North Carolina previously would have banned state facilities from providing gender affirming care to trans youth. Now, the senate has amended it to be a total ban on care.

I've been expecting this.  And I'm sure the rest of the anti-trans agenda will be following.  I have contacted my reps, but they have already made up their minds.  Seems kinda hopeless.

I don't get this obsession they have with us.

I kind of disagreed with both sides in that case.  Rather glad that my county's school district decided to require school uniforms a couple of years ago.  It keeps teachers from having to enforce dress code on a case-by-case basis.

I expect that it will become a near-total ban across 75% of the country.

And the south "rises" to new depths.
