I’ll try to keep this PG-13

I am 48 years old, MTF, started HRT almost exactly 2 months ago.
OK, here comes out of the spicy part. Close your eyes kids! About two weeks ago I noticed a drastic decrease in my sex drive, (which was never high to begin with) and I can no longer get fully erect. To get so at all requires a lot of effort. Is this normal this early? I still have not determined exactly what my plans for transition are, so this makes me slightly concerned if I will ever be able to get an erection again should I choose to not get bottom surgery. Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

When it comes to HRT effects, almost anything can be considered a normal part of the spectrum.  Everyone is different, and almost anything is possible.  So yes, two months is a possible timeline for reduced libido.  Over time, it is likely your libido will diminish further.  I am not certain if there is a point of no return, but that is possible, too.  But if you stopped HRT now, it probably would return to pre-HRT levels.

You place UR bets, and you takes UR chances in the HRT game.

I can't remember my last erection.  Oddly it is a non issue at this point.  That doesn't ever seem to bother or concern me.

As to your transition plans, surgery isn't a requirement for transition.

Each of us has our own journey.  You might want to speak to your therapist about this issue.

It was pretty quick for me, maybe not that quick, that erections weren't quite what they used to be and went away fast, I was able to have some very satisfying experiences that had little or nothing to do with erections, if that's PG-13 enough to be posted.

I'm not MtF, but my friend is.  She and I have had some very open discussions on the topic.  She's had HRT for years, but she's non-op by choice so her equipment is original.  Her libido is average, but aspects of her anatomy don't always function and are not of an "adult" size.  And the expected results of stimulation are difficult to achieve, and sometimes frustratingly impossible.  Combined with a lack of an intimate partner, it bothers her.

I'm AFAB, intersex, and non-op...the only thing I've done was use a mild T cream for some physical effects.  Even with my minor prescription, I've had the (expected) exact opposite result as my friend.  Increased libido, and...increased everything else.  Hopefully I've phrased this delicately enough to be PG13, but descriptive enough that you get the idea.

I’m starting soon.  Both my girlfriend and I were curious about this.  I’m less concerned, but I do want to keep her happy.  Has anyone tried viagra or something similar as a work around and if so how has that worked out?

My journey began in 78 when I had a vasectomy. Much later I was diagnosed with secondary hypogonadism of course things had shrunk especially the testicles. My HRT therapist told me things would get smaller which was fine by me and am starting my third month HRt. I can't remember the last time I had an erection and at this point I don't think that I care.

I've read that sometimes doctors will prescribe a low dose of testosterone to increase libido in post op trans women. So maybe your T level is too low. Ask your PCP to check your levels. They might need to adjust your HRT dosages if you still want functional oem equipment.

Cheyenne, this is often the case with pre-op trans women too! Actually, decades before I commenced HRT, my doctor diagnosed me with hypogonadism and recommended ED drugs and T supplements. For me, taking T would have been simply way too dysphoric, so I simply couldn't, and Viagra just didn't work. For various reasons, some trans people need to remain functional, and should consult their hormone doctor for treatment options. I was happy to let things atrophy and disappear inside, though it did lead to complications with peeing.

Hi @Vanessa Michelle, I can relate. I have been on HRT for over 18 months now and have repeatedly struggled with a much-reduced sex drive. In my case it wasn’t so much the lack of erections that worried me, but the lack of any interest in sex at all. For me, the cause of this was t-blockers. Having now tried three common blockers at various doses (spironolactone, cyproterone, and bicalutamide) I have finally found the solution: a reduced dose of spiro and an increased dose of estradiol. This puts my hormone levels just where I want them but still leaves me a healthy, but not overwhelming, interest in sex.

When I first decided to transition naturally I began HRT. All went well for 6 months then I had to several serious cardiac episodes where upon my doctor stopped my HRT permanently. I was devastated. As such I have not been able to complete physical bottom transition. The loss of the ability to have an erection was a major source of happiness.  Since my early teens I hated having one from the first time. Despite not being on HRT for several decades they happily have not returned. That said my partner and I approach what I have just as a cis-female approaches her clit. The orgasms that result are amazing full body ecstasy experiences. Way beyond anything I ever experienced with erections. I don't know if my experiences are typical. At least in my case there is life after erections. An mazing wonderful life!

Same here.  My mind is a jumbled mess.  I'm no great philosopher, nor particularly educated.  Don't open my brain's closet, as all the junk might come tumbling out.

Its been a long day.  I had a good trip with my husband, kind of sorry I had to come home.  I mean, I love my partners, but I feel overwhelmed by the chaos at times.  It was nice being able to just drive and talk for two days, and not feel rushed at meals.  Stopped at a buffet off I-40 in Oklahoma, and I was able to nibble comfortably for two hours!  And taking a shower in a place where I don't have to bother hanging up the towels for later   Its all about the little things....

Hi @AmandaJoy Welcome, and nice to meet you! Congratulations on your Self-Affirmation!  As you've already discovered you're in great company here on this Forum.  It took me 60+ years also.   I understand your thrill and desire to proceed full-steam-ahead but that you've already realized to meter your Journey.  So, I will just end with what I tell most new Members when they arrive ... Deep breaths ... One step at a time

Hey @KayC I need another tutorial session on this place with you.  Maybe we can talk on Discord or the phone and I can share my screen and do a few messages while Asking you some questions about how this place is organized. How are you doing in the real world?? ... "real world" ???  What is this "real world" of which you speak?

@VickySGV Ha!  Finally figured THAT out!  Though I hate to confess just how long it took me to figure out WHERE to begin typing that "@" sign.  (So I just won't confess it!  ... giggles) I am not sure how private this message to you is ... for example I was going to make a guess about your location (you say near a major earthquake fault) and while there are many places in CA which fit that description, I live near one as well. But I am not sure if being asked that in a public forum is something you want, and I don't know if I am talking publicly or privately right now.  (So, obviously, till I learn what is what, I treat EVERYTHING as public). I think Kay might have already told me about the "@" sign but I forgot ... Guess I have blonde roots ... (I'm actually a Brunette ... Grey but the box keeps me a brunette ... still the number of mistakes I make and how slow I am with learning things constantly reminds me that I must be blonde on the inside!!  ... giggles)

@KymmieL do they have you on anti depressants?  Are they certain they are the right ones for you?  Has a psychiatrist been involved?  My physician first put me on an anti depressant and when things got worse for me he added one that was the initial cause of my cancer.  My therapist recommended I had a different need changed things. My psychiatrist agreed with the particular underlying condition and the choice of medications.   everyone is different but if one medication isn’t working there are many different types and different underlying conditions that require different treatments.  No meds mentioned because what didn’t work and what did all depends on your case, not mine.   Willow

To me loving myself means having the courage to live the way I want and to be me.     I hardly ever really like how I look but I feel good knowing I am trying to be the best version of myself that I can be. It is definitely a struggle sometimes though.  💗Cynthia

I had a five hour road trip today.  I’m trying to grow my hair out so I just pushed it back with a pink hair band, lipstick and gloss, no makeup.    White spaghetti strap top, short black skirt, white sandals with pink toenails!  A couple of rings and bracelets, necklace and hoop earrings.   I felt like a hot mess but it’s my favorite way to travel!

Glad you had a good day, @Willow Mine on the other hand sucked. I have been screwing up again, I even got written up. I may have to educate them on major depression and disability. not that it will work.    OH, well. May be another job I lost because of me. Yes, my depression is about down at the magma level   Kym

This bag is really working out for me.  I had worn out the back on my yin-yang bag so I picked this one up.  It wasn't long before I cut off the flap on it and braided a hemp strap for it.  The zipper is the best feature.  I can spin the bag around and I'm not afraid of losing anything.  I've taught myself to keep all the essential things in it and nothing more.  Here is what made the cut:   Notepad Sharpie Ballpoint Pen Teaspoon Glasses Phone (most of the time) Wired Headphones and/or Bluetooth Carmex and/or Lipstick Flash Drive Current Braiding Project Wallet Hair Clip   And on my keys I have my one inch Swiss Army Knife with scissors and a bottle opener that I like using with mason jar lids.   I don't miss pockets at all now.  The bag is fun and practical.  I can set it on the ground to get everything off my body.  If I need something, I'm looking for a fairly large object.  I always have something to work on with the braiding project.
