I just saw this on instagram.  I missed this post here.

 

I've been kinda wondering where we stood with the VA vs state laws.  

 

I get my care at the Asheville VA and haven't had any trouble there yet.  We can use the correct facilities there.  But my state seems to have started down this anti-trans road now.  For now, the VA is one place I actually feel fairly comfortable.

The GOP in congress has already added an amendment to the military funding bill that would cut us off from our trans care.  It isn't expected to get through the senate though.  But Dem control of the senate is pretty flakey.

My nephew is on active duty in the "Hillbilly Riviera" part of Florida. He's not any kind of LGBTQ+ but even he is dying to transfer out. Bad politics is felt across the board when it occurs. Down with Desantis seems to happening there now--that's a good sign.

That Veteran should have had them call the LGBT coordinator.

It is VA policy taken from their own web site. "The hospital prohibits discrimination based on age, race, ethnicity, religion, culture, language, physical or mental disability, socioeconomic status, sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity or expression."

 

We need to get this information to all Transgender veterans. Please pass it along.

 

I think that the VA policies being they are government they supersede state laws. VA property is US Government not state government. DeSantis can screw off.

I'm so glad I didn't decide to go to Florida. Although Mississippi isn't exactly much better either.

Yeah, either doesn't sound fun with politics atm. Going some places I feel like that kid from the Magic School Bus that says "I knew I shoulda stayed home today"

 

With any luck, this might just be things having to get worse before they get better, but either way it's not good.
