Skirts as a fashion statement

So true. However, I think individual attitudes in certain places are becoming more liberal, which will hopefully have an effect on society accepting any clothing as acceptable for any gender to wear.

This is actually one of the reasons that draws me to wearing kilts - just being visible with a gender-ambiguous style that invites people to think about their attitude. Even though I live in a generally accepting and affirming area, not everyone is. Kilts are funny - my gay cis male deacon made a point of emphasizing to me that "believe it or not, kilts are *very* masculine." And the way the websites I mentioned market them makes no doubt of that. For instance this from the Scottish Kilt Shop:

Is any really going to be calling that guy a wussy, LOL?

But when I wear a kilt, I certainly rock it in a much more feminine many. My nature shines through!

Oh, and I forgot about my latest fashion love - tunics with leggings underneath. Like a dress but warmer. Perfect for cooler weather.

I just ordered my first sweater tunic! It should arrive in a couple weeks when we get back home after our looooooong 2 month holiday trip visiting my in-laws.

Actually - it's the very first woman's garment I've ever ordered. A milestone! I already have the leggings, but they are men's leggings. Not sure what the difference is, honestly!

I'm excited for you!!! A milestone!! Your first order. But, not the last!!! 💕

Probably the sizing for the leggings is different. As long as they fit and you feel good in them, score!!!

I find many leggings advertised to men have that "exposed elastic" waistband look, whereas most of what I've seen marketed to women have a simpler aesthetic. There are those that have pouches. The styling is different many times as well; I've found many that have designs that are made to draw the idea to the pouch. I've found leggings to be one of my favorite clothing items now. They are comfy, provide compression, and breathe really well. Other "lounging pants", such as fleece or other PJ-type pants get too hot and it triggers my eczema.

As for skirts being fashion statements, they definitely can be no matter who wears them. I am wearing one right now, in fact. After working out and showering, I love tossing one on to let my lotion dry and help with cooling down. They're great for my sensitive skin, there's nothing to breathe through! ;)

I have not been out in public in a dress/skirt yet, but look forward to the day soon.

The first time I looked at myself in the mirror with a dress on ... I knew, "THIS is it!"  Now, if I could just learn to walk better in heels 👠

maybe start with a black or khaki skort ... something that the average person may not even notice unless they look hard, thinking they are shorts...

I haven’t worn a skirt Out yet, but I really want to.  My big issue is what shoes to wear.  I can’t walk well in pumps … but I guess for a casual mid-length skirt I have seen casual sneakers as an option.
maybe soon … ?

Oh, you absolutely should, Kay-san! You got the legs, so you should show them off! You don't need pumps just to wear a skirt; flats are fine! Can't wait to see your skirt pics!!!

I agree 100%. And, this time of year when it gets cold here I also wear ankle and knee high boots with my skirts.

  • 4 weeks later...

Sometimes i wear a skirt in "guy mode" usually around the house, or out in the yard.  I have also gone out a few times like that.

I wore long skirts for years before going fulltime. Now I never wear long pants. I mostly wear skirts, skorts, or rompers. Occasionally, I wear shorts, usually over tights. I just hate long pants,

There's isn't anything I don't mind wearing just not men's clothes!

Accidents happen.  So do heat-of-the-moment murders, without premeditation or trans-related hate.  It will take a trial to really figure it out.     One thing we can see from this is that it is people in our circles of acquaintances, friends, and partners who are the ones who usually hurt us.  Not someone random. We have to be careful who we trust.

Friday May 17th is IDAHOBIT (International Day Against HOmophobia, BIphobia and Transphobia).   Do you acknowledge or celebrate it? Do you do anything special for it, like taking part in any organized events or activities?   I'm not an activist and I prefer to fly under the radar, but I am slowly becoming aware of important dates. I have been aware of the date of IDAHOBIT for a few weeks now, but other important 'rainbow' dates have not been etched into my brain yet.    I will wear my favorite pride t-shirt as a token acknowledgement of the day, but it probably won't be seen; cool weather here will mean that it will be hidden under a sweater.

Happiness for me comes from being cognizant of the things that make me feel good.   Sunshine.   Pandering to my inner woman.   Knowing that some people in my life really 'know' me.   Vacations, and Eggs Benedict at an alfresco cafe.   My wife and I being telepathic.   Grandchildren.   Music.   Wine!

True.  Every trans death is not a hate crime. There is so much hate expressed by some people, that we kinda get to expect it.

happiness to me is being ME. At all times, and it has yet to happen.

Hello & welcome, giz! Your post makes me remember how excited I was to join here too. I also had queer friends at the time I joined, but any of my trans friends lived a long distance away. So most local queer friends are gay & I felt uncomfortable coming out to them bc I couldn't assume they'd understand genderqueerness. So it was a thrill to join here and immediately have access to do many wonderful, genuine, kind & thoughtful friends-to-be.   Are you saying you're concerned that if you come out to your queer friends that somehow your parents will find out?     My love, I just want to affirm that that's not a weird dysphoria. It's just dysphoria. And we definitely get it. You're in good company here!     Look forward to seeing you around here & getting to know you. I shoot for androgynous appearance as well, leaning towards masculine.   Hope you're having a splendid day!

Listening to a YouTube mix for me and this song came up and I immediately fell in love again and just want to play music with like minded musicians playing OUR music and feel the joy and fulfillment even if no one else gets it. I love to fall into the music....

Funny.....   The day-centre transportation director told me yesterday morning that I was to receive an award, my picture on the website, etc... for having won the billiards tournament (I knew better).   Later that afternoon he returns to "shake my hand" and tell me, "thanks for participating."   I could have told him that was all I would receive earlier. I'm not well liked by management.
