I've never understood the whole "get naked in the locker room" thing.  When I was in high school, there were no dividers in the showers for girls.  Just a bunch of shower heads coming out of the same wall, and a big drain in the floor.  I dealt with it, but it wasn't my favorite.  I imagine the boys had the same situation.  I guess the thought was that as long as sexes were kept separate, there wouldn't be any interest or arousal? 

 

Now that people are more aware of LGBTQ+ folks, hopefully privacy will be more important.  It would certainly make gay boys and lesbian girls feel more comfortable, to say nothing of trans folks.

Why can't we have a more mature society where it doesn't matter what "hardware" you have? Where we can all simply share the room without being hyperfocused on anything related to sex... Seems to me that most Americans, and especially the American Christians are uberfocused on sec and the gender you have to perform it... 

 

 

Having lived in Japan and traveled Asian countries for over 15 years, I don't see such a zealous focus on sex. People are able to share the room without everyone else thinking about getting raped...

As a former nudist I learned long ago that nakedness does not equate to either sexuality or lewd behavior.  At some of the nudist camps I went to IU found the most prudish people ever.

I too have been to a nudist camp (post grs / srs) and was totally comfortable.  There was no staring or shenanigans was fine.  I did have an encounter on a nudist beach which was very unpleasant, which I have mentioned on this site already.  But aside from this nothing to report.

 

On the other hand I remember school showers were very uncomfortable, probably a fair bit of gender dysphoria kicking in and possibly the fact I was aware of being BI at school and frequently got "Accused" of being gay despite not having told a soul. 

Probably this contributed to the discomfort as well.  Desperately not wanting to get caught looking, even though I kinda didn't (kinda did) want to look.  I needed plausible deniability at that time and had precious little.

Interest yes, arousal hell no, god I hope not.

 

On the whole privacy in changing rooms should be available to those who want it.  not being nude would seem to help a lot

I do not see the bathroom / locker room situation at children's levels so much an issue of potential rape, but rather it is the general nature of curiosity about the levels of sex organ development or the shyness that hits many as they begin to achieve their secondary sexual characteristics.  It is almost natural to wonder if the other kid is going through what you are and self comparison can be pretty jarring in either direction.  The system change there is a good one in my POV.  I do remember all too well, 63 years later about one young male in my school's locker room who was a precocious Tanner state 4 in Junior High School being obnoxious as hell about showing off when many of us were still at a T2 stage.  He was a general jerk and I was not too sad to see him on a list of deceased classmates at my 50th HS reunion.

It might be a joke now, but in years past I think it was how people thought - totally cis/hetero focused.  Nowadays I think there's just as much potential for an uncomfortable situation in a locker room with all cis boys or all cis girls as there might be with other arrangements.

Yep.  Awkwardness.  It sure was in my experience.  Locker room with a bunch of girls, and me and my sister already quite certain that we really liked the female form.  And then me never really getting those feminine characteristics like the others did, which more than anything else made me lack any confidence at trying to date until my 20's.

I ,on the other hand, got all the female characteristics, but AMAB I wasn't supposed to have them.  

Also, I was missing a key component of the male anatomy.

I think it's good idea. This world is getting crazy and who knows what is coming up next. It was constant judgement when I was in school sports.
