HRT in the UK

So I have resigned myself to starting HRT privately in the UK due to the horrendous waiting lists on the NHS.

Can anyone recommend private clinics in the UK? I have seen a few, but not sure which one is the best?

Hi LillyF.

I have used GenderCare (GC), recommended by my therapist. They are a group of gender specialists, working for the NHS and also in private practice. They follow NHS protocols and prefer to work with your GP on a 'shared care' basis. I suggest you talk to your GP first to establish if this is acceptable and you will get their support (eg prescriptions, blood tests).  Check out the website - gendercare.co.uk - where there is a lot of information. You will need to have a psychiatric assessment (on line) to assess if you have GD. I used Dr Lorimer - very friendly and approachable.  During your consultation, if you have GD, he will probably recommend a course of action. If it is HRT your next appointment will be with one of GC's endocrinologists, for which you will need a blood test (via your GP).

I have my endocrinologist appointment (on line, with Dr Coxon) on Tuesday.  Although it is a great deal faster than the NHS, you may have to wait several months for appointments.

Good luck.

Thank you! Will see what my gp says Thursday.

For you, would it impact on future surgery?

I see no reason why it should. Although GenderCare does not include surgeons, you can do all that is necessary with them to get a referral/recommendation. I think the website will help answer your questions. By the way, starting with GC does not preclude your getting into the NHS stream at a later date. Dr Lorimer suggested it as a possibility. I declined on age grounds!

You are welcome to pm me if you think I can help.
