I have certainly found a wonderful community here as well as the many trans recovery meetings i am privileged to attend on Zoom.  I'm certainly not alone.

This is a rhetorical question, isn't it? I mean, seriously, who on here wouldn't agree?

As people in the 21st century are generally more isolated than in previous times, building community is important.  Online communities are helpful.  But I think lots of people perish for lack of physical community of some sort.  Loneliness is as deadly as a pack-a-day smoking habit, we're told. 

 

The big thing I wonder about is where do trans folks figure out how to meet each other and become friends in-person?  And not just that, but find others who are open to being friends?  My two trans friends literally came into my life at random over the last year or so.  The city near me has a bar where LGBTQ+ folks go, but attendance is pretty sparse.  Finding any sort of physical community is a challenge.

Yes, I agree that meeting in person is important, too. However, these virtual communities sometimes lead to in-person meetings. Even though I live in Japan, I met someone I met on this forum in real life, too! We meet regularly, and I consider her a good friend. I also have a GID group I meet regularly. Still, I wish I could meet more people from the community. Good luck meeting people!
