Transmasc voice tips for Cavetown voice

Okay, the title is a little misleading. I don't want to sound exactly like Cavetown, he's just an example. So whenever I try to have a masculine voice, it always ends up sounding really deep. I don't like that. I wanna have a light-sounding but still masculine voice, like Cavetown. How can I achieve that?

If your masc voice is too deep the sound might be stuck in your throat. A deep voice can be generated by closing the throat and generating a lot of vibration in the larynx. But that's not very effective and can cause strain. Consider checking out videos on how to develop your "chest voice". This is a lower register where the diaphragm supports the air which resonates with sound below the throat, in the chest cavity. You can learn to mindfully engage the larynx and throat to control airflow without getting any gravelly, deep quality in the voice. Vocal exercises sound really goofy, so you have to keep your ego out of it when you practice!
