I’m looking to get my first wig. Any suggestions on the best type and or best place to get one?

I would simply go to a nearby wig shop in your area.  They will serve Trans customers very well and many have private fitting rooms they will take you into.  Some of it will depend on what your budget can take, but good ones that will be fine are just about $200 dollars.  If you want to try online, down at the very bottom of the page here is The Breast Form Store which helps the site out with a donation.  In addition to of course breast forms, they do have wigs that can give you ideas.

I agree with @VickySGVthat in-person wig shops are preferable.  You can always call ahead to be sure they are LGBT-friendly.  I did once run into one that was not, but it was easy to find others that were.  These shops are usually family-run small businesses that really need your money, so there is no reason for them to be less than friendly and helpful.

 

Although I have gotten good wigs online, the wait times and shipping costs can be burdensome. 

 

I've never gotten a human-hair wig, but they are usually good quality, easily styled but expensive.  Monofilament and lace front are my go-to choices.  The best monofilament can be very natural looking and comfortable, and like Vicky said, are reasonably priced..

I agree with the ladies above. I went that route after spending too much money needlessly. Once with a LGTBQ friendly wig specialist and my spouse, we together came up with best choice and styling for me. It also felt so good to be included with a group of ladies accepting me for who I was (bonus).

Thank you for the advice and tips.  This being my first one I’m just looking for a cheaper one to try things out.  This is a huge step because it will be nice to look in the mirror and see major feminine feature instead of really short hair.
