Christmas Time

A Modern Retailing

‘Twas six months before Christmas and all through the mall,

Tinsel was hung from the trees all around.

Giant snow globes and packages and Holly by the bough,

Muzac carols are played and candy canes abound.

If you think for a moment that not a creature was stirring,

Not even a mouse.

You haven’t seen for a second the busy schedules,

For ‘Keepers of House’.

The stockings are hung by the chimney with care,

Never mind that there’s no snow anywhere.

The children lie snuggled all warm in their beds,

At summer camp with small fans at their heads.

Santa’s work is made easier by the help of his elves,

In retail of course it’s the stockers of shelves.

The signs are to be hung green and red all around,

While the price stickers are marked first up and then down.

Claims of no payments and no interest are shouting,

So watch the small children screaming and pouting.

Final Christmas orders must be filed no later than October,

So all through the summer the buyers must stay sober.

The spirit of Christmas is hard to explain,

To a child who just wants to play in the warm summer rain.

The meaning of the season is hard to detect,

In a world less concerned with peace than being Politically Correct.

The message of peace and good will towards man,

Shouldn’t be lost because it came from the wrong plan.

Confucius, Moses, Muhammad and Jesus agree,

Peace on Earth and good will would bring them great glee.

In much of our nation there isn’t much snow,

But we do have a feeling for the changing of seasons, ya know.

So no matter how hard the retailers may try,

There is no feeling of urgency to buy for Christmas in July.

A good idea for the whole of the year is for people to follow

A path that would make the meaning of Christmas less hollow.

A path that takes you through peace to good will,

Not necessarily to get bigger presents and eat your fill.

In retail the goal is December sales equal to a third of the year,

The meaning of peace and good will is so hard to hear,

What with the sound of the registers and the clanging of bells,

Then you must clear the shelves for New Year’s sales.

The Christ in Christmas has been replaced with an X,

To think that the reason for peace should leave some one vexed.

I have never been offended when an Islamic friend

Has blessed me in the name of Allah, we each have fences to mend.

The belief in God should pull us together and not divide,

But we take every chance to point out differences and deride.

The inescapable fact is that Christians were once Jews,

But five thousand years of history we are prepared to lose.

So this year when Christmas rolls around, remember the message,

Peace on Earth and good will towards man, that’s for the ages.

Don’t judge a man by his religion, attire, posture or race,

Try instead through your actions to bring a smile to his face.

If only we could learn to be charitable all year round,

We wouldn’t need Christmas to bring us around.

Treat each person as a friend as you go through life,

You’ll not have to think of the season to avoid strife.

Without Christmas or Xmas, if you will, to billow their sails,

Retailers would spend less on decorations and huge banners for sales.

A living wage for their employees throughout the year,

This would surely destroy all of their Christmas cheer.

So as you think of the ways to spend Christmas this year,

Remember to observe the spirit and try to spread cheer.

To be cruel or mean to people you don’t know, there is no reasons,

So in short, let’s make civility a habit for any and all seasons.

During this season we can do things right,

So think, was it that hard to do, try it again tonight.

If we can do it for a day or a week or a month, why not a year?

Think of that often and you’ll be of good cheer.

Santa Claus and the presents have little or nothing to do

With the spirit of Christmas that should be in you.

Try to remember the things that you were taught,

Before you act, think then do what you ought.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you, the golden rule,

Is a rule to guide you for the year not just the season of Yule.

But not to sound preachy or self-righteous or lofty or pious,

I tell you to be kind and that’ll be fine by us.

LOL!!

There are so many truths in this poem. This would make a great holiday story as a book all by itself! I really like it Sally! Now, if you don't mind, it is now officially July - I have some Christmas shopping to do :P

Morning y'all.    Nearly winter here, but it's a mild climate compared to what most of you experience. Even so, the best way to describe the mornings lately is...nipply! 😁

What I don’t like about the dealer working on my car, yes the put the paper mats on the floor, but why don’t they remove them when they bring my car to me?  And why do they always mess with my radio settings and my electronic dashboard settings?  I get them the way I want them and they seem to want them at factory default.  Leave things like you find them!  Why is that so difficult?  And don’t tell me it’s because the updated the computer! Every time!.  And no I haven’t figured out everything yet on the new car.  I can’t even get my key programmed to move my seat when I get in and out.  It’s supposed to move the seat, the mirrors, the steering wheel and several other things.  My old Eddie Bauer was easy to program but then it only programmed seat location and pedal location.   ok now that we’ve had our rousing knock on cars and dealer mechanics.  What else shall we talk about?  Bras?  Seems like an appropriate subject for most of us.  I have several different types. Two are famous store push-up padded to are more common everyday lightly padded ant one is a no padding no strap slip and the last one is a front close longline no padding.  Now that one supports the theory that I am now a B cup on my own. I’d prefer a C but then I’m not so sure my blouses would still fit without pulling.  Ah the problem we have as women.  And sizes are never ever the same.  Oh I’m a size ??  But men I need a large shirt and 36-30 pants and they always fit.   we can’t buy anything off the rack with confidence it will fit and I hate having to take it home to try one and return what doesn’t fit.   we’ll time to do my hair and leave.   love ya   Willow

Hello we are The lake. So called because This One has not determined a name for oneself but has in a way created an environment to try out multiple names as different people. Currently Some of us use she/her pronouns and one uses he/him. We hope to learn more about being transgender and the intricacies involved. Once again it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance and we hope to be of further help in the future.
