I don't have a lot of faith in the Democrats.  I could see them caving on this at some point.  I don't think it's a "hill they're ready to die on" at all.

It's amazing just how much these people hate us.  It's irrational.

They're ready to burn it all down just to get rid of us - I mean, we're like half of 1%.

I'm not terribly worried about this particular threat.  The "Freedom Caucus" is often ignored these days, even by their own party.  They tried the same thing with the military's "travel for abortions" policy and the caucus backed down in the end.  This is just a stunt for the "base."  The whole "we hate trans people" shtick is a stunt.

Its a stunt,  but idk who it is for.  I live near a wholelotta their "base" and trans folks aren't the top issue their own voters care about.  Mostly its the economy, taxes and spending, inflation, immigration, and war.  The haters may be vocal, but they are a very small minority.

If the Republicans would actually run on the issues their base really cares about, they'd win.

LOL!  The people that have been elected certainly don't seem to think that's what their base really cares about, otherwise they would actually do something about them up in D.C.  The R's who do seem to care about those issues keep getting forced out or just up and quit.  To quote a great movie line, "What we have here is a failure to communicate."

They aren't playing to the public or even to their own voters.  This is all about sponsorship.  They make a ton of money from "corporate donors", a.k.a. sponsors.  Those groups paid huge sums money to push their agendas, and they will withdraw that funding if that agenda is not translated into legislation.  The Rs are addicted to that money and can't afford to alienate the sponsors.  The once-honourable party has sold its soul to the devil, and the devil is now collecting his due by requiring these laws.

Yes. We need money like that out of politics—it's anti-democratic, Putin-esque, and dangerous.

Yes, but ever since the Supreme Court ruled that "corporations are people", a flood of dark money has really exacerbated the influence that big businesses have over so many facits of American life.  Sigh (my real reaction's words are a lot saltier).

I have noticed that the people my state sends to Congress say one thing before they are elected, and then do something very different. Something in DC corrupts them almost immediately. I swear it's like the US capital is a giant roach motel.  What goes in never comes back out.

Yes. I agree with your expansion of the point. I also relate your salt.

For a political party to take the liberty to disregard large segments of the Constitution, is very telling. For those with a sworn duty to support and defend the constitution, but then trample it without going through due process is another. To unilaterally decide the fate of others by following an obtuse interpretation of the Bible, and then trampling the Constitution despite there being a separation of church and state, is very dangerous. Embracing the rule of the land based solely on the prevailing religious text begs for a comparison to the Taliban. There was a time when there was a desire to limit the amount of intrusion into peoples lives, but now we see much intrusion including everything about how we lead our private lives whether we are straight, LGBTQ, or a fertile female who happens to want to control where, when, and how they want to procreate. Those choices are being directly led by an out-of-control political party in their quest for power and greed. They need to stop screwing with people's lives in this manner.

I hope I did not violate the TOS.

Woke up early to prepare Mexican food for lunch as I had a friend coming over, but he forgot today is mother's day and cancelled.    Looks like I'll be eating Mexican food for dinner tonight.

My condolences to the people of WA.  A huge warning about that type of politician though, those who broadcast the Anti-Trans message rarely if ever attend to any important legislative issues to benefit their constituency.  They are mostly single trick dogs, whose trick is to empty their food bowl and whine for more food.

This stuff seems to be the major talking point for "conservatives" these days.  Just shows that they don't know what they're talking about, and don't particularly care.

Mother's Day, so I thought I'd do the right thing and cook. So, we got Chinese takeaway! 😆   Actually, we planned it days ago, just thinking that tonight we would treat ourselves. Complete with a lovely bottle of Cab Sav.

Exactly.   A plain old "Good morning" should always suffice, for example, whether the recipient expects a gender specific greeting or not.

Hi awkward yet sweet, yeah, I tried dumping her but my current health insurance keeps directing me back to her as my primary, yet there are other doctors to choose from, but they are far away.

Hi Birdie, I can relate to that.

This sort of stuff makes my blood boil. A prospective state politician has gained approval from his party's state council to run in their state election next year.   He once stated that the + part of LGBTQIA+ is where pedophiles are categorized.   For clarity, in Australia the Liberal party is our main conservative party. They have lurched further to the right over the past 10 years or so. Our main progressive, union backed party is Labor.   WA Liberal party approves Dr Thomas Brough, candidate who linked LGBTQIA+ community with paedophiles - ABC News

Happy Mother’s Day    I have to be at church earlier than normal for a mic check.  I have been going over what I am to say, both silently reading and reading it aloud.  My concern is that my voice will freeze as it sometimes does.     I felt I was honored very highly yesterday by my minister and supporter on my journey.  He and another minister are Standing together to become the next co-moderators of the Presbyterian Church (USA).  They included me to receive an advance copy of their initial submission.  I was one of only 6 people listed on the email to receive this.  Later this week it will go out to all the voting commissioners that will be in Salt Lake City for the meeting.  I have asked to be allowed to attend the meeting to support him and Rev CeeCee Armstrong, whom he is standing with.    We’ll time to get ready .   Willow

Nup. Not an option. You need to keep going and keep us all in the loop, and we need to keep seeing your beautiful smile!   Party, schmarty. I'm 61 and haven't had a birthday party since I was 30. Even that was just a crummy meal at the pub with a few friends who we have since lost contact with. Don't sweat it.

On behalf of everyone reading your entries here @Sally Stone, THANK YOU for creating such an informative thread. But there is one thing you might have neglected to say at the end, and that is, "And they all lived happily ever after!" ❤️   Reno sounds like a pretty good place to call home. I understand the attraction of living in a place that is not too big but not too small.   I look forward to reading your subsequent posts about specific aspects of your journey.
