"The Tide Is Turning": Dozens Of Anti-LGBTQ Bills Die In Florida. Over 20 anti-LGBTQ+ bills have died in Florida after the legislature adjourned Sine Die on Friday, leaving some wondering if energy is waning over anti-trans and anti-LGBTQ legislation.
At 2:27 p.m. on Friday, March 8, the Florida Legislature adjourned sine die. With this adjournment, 21 of 22 anti-LGBTQ+ bills were effectively killed, leaving an anti-diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in education bill as the lone piece of legislation to pass this session. This session featured some of the most severe bills ever proposed against transgender individuals, all of which are now officially dead. LGBTQ+ activists in the state now have the rest of 2024 to regroup, with hopes that the November general election will yield results against a legislature that has spent two years targeting transgender individuals in every aspect of life.

I am not the least bit surprised that that has happened.  I am still very happy to see it however.  I agree that  we are becoming old news and news material since our H8ers have not gotten the mileage they were finagled into believing we would give them.  Florida is not the only place who has frankly lost more than it gained but we have not seen their white flag just yet, like we see this one.

That is excellent news.  Thanks for posting about it, @Davie.  Along with being perhaps a bit tired of dealing with the same issues over and over again, I think that the many defeats prior bills have been met with in the courts have soured the legislators on the "culture war."  They expected the court system to back them up, but it has been the exact opposite (for the most part).  Other states may be finding the same to be true.

But it's way too early to claim victory.  If the SCOTUS hands them or another state a victory, they'll be back with a vengeance.

I think this had to start happening eventually. And what a better place for it to happen. The Florida Legislature has been stepping on this community’s neck for far too long. Something had to give. I’m hoping this becomes a trend as people realize that marginalizing the trans community is not going to fix the real problems happening around the country.

I think its happening because average folks are really tired of this.  Most would like to talk about other more important issues, like the economy.  I guess that feeling is moving upwards, even into the legislatures.

The stench of dying Anti-LGBTQ+ Bills floats north!

Over 20 Anti-LGBTQ+ Bills Die In West Virginia, As Activists Celebrate Major Victories

West Virginia saw dozens of anti-trans bills proposed in 2024, including a bill to close an exception allow some trans youth to obtain care. Now, virtually all of those bills are dead.

At midnight on Saturday, more than 20 anti-LGBTQ+ bills died in West Virginia after the legislature adjourned sine die. Bills that did not pass included the misleadingly named "Women’s Bill of Rights," which would have ended legal recognition for transgender people in the state, as well as a bill that would have prohibited gender-affirming care for all transgender youth. West Virginia is the second state in a week
hinting that anti-transgender legislative attacks are encountering resistance. Last week, Florida's legislature also adjourned, effectively killing dozens of anti-transgender bills.

Good news is always welcome, and all-too-rare these days.  I hope this trend continues as long as possible, but I'm remain pessimistic for the long term.  The R's are not done with us yet.  Perhaps if they lose big in November, they will rethink their strategy.
