Kansas Dems Blast Right Wing Doctors For Pushing Disinformation During Debate On Anti-Trans Bill

The studies about low "desistence" and "re-identification" keep piling up and up and up, showing they do not happen in any great or really significant manner.  One of my college professors actually in Psychology was fond to say that too many MD's should in fact be categorized as BM's -- Body Mechanics because they learned the mechanics of human bodies, but kept themselves from learning the real sciences of human life.

This is how they operate.

"Committee chairwoman Rep. Brenda Landwehr, R-Wichita, initiated action on the bill without giving public notice — one week after a hearing in which she evicted leading transgender advocates from Kansas and gave wide berth to out-of-state proponents."

They're not concerned with the actual facts at all, only in forcing their opinions on the rest of us.

I think I'd disagree with that professor.  We'd be fortunate to have Body Mechanics around.  A good mechanic (and my GF is one) doesn't come at a car or any other machine with preconceived notions.  She accepts general rules and tendencies, but treats each machine as its own system, feeling and fitting and paying attention to little details until desired function is achieved.

A human body is much like a machine.  Delicate, soft, biological, but a machine that was created. It functions according to understandable general principles combined with infinite unique variance.  I believe that so many doctors are closer to scientists than mechanics...and that isn't a compliment.  It doesn't take an advanced degree to find a leaking cylinder or a worn belt, or analyze "that noise" you keep hearing.  Such things are more art than science.  In the same way, good doctors I've know seem to approach their profession as an art, a delicate craft, rather than a detached science.

I also find it really irritating when people want to use science as a bludgeon in politics.  Its how we ended up with all the COVID chaos.  All the worship of "THE Science."  I've got a high school degree, and a GF who spent her career in science and tech.  What basics I learned from those two sources informs be that there's no such thing as "THE Science" in which we are to trust.  Science is always questioning, always learning, always differing, always evolving.  Its an unending process, not a result.  I believe that doctors who get into politics and get treated as "THE Expert" are mistaken.  A disgrace.   What one doctor says - well, its just what one doctor says.  A different doctor will say something different based on their own experience.  That's clearly shown by the fact that the doctors involved in this Kansas legislation have opinions that are quite different from the doctor who handles my gender/physical issues.

I think the point is not that they shouldn't be "Body Mechanics", but that people are more than their physical bodies and those functions.

I'm not intersex (as far as I know) but that doesn't mean I can't be transgender.
