I tried music.  I can be a competent player: I mostly hit the right notes at the right time, and can follow the dynamics in the score.  I played hammered dulcimer in a couple of bands, recorded a CD, and got an opening gig at a music club.  Applause was the minimal for a polite audience, no more.  I am not a soloist.

 

I did better in a concert band, playing tenor sax.  There is less pressure on the individual, and "technically competent" is pretty much what they are looking for.  Of course, the band shut down during covid.  By the time they started up again a couple of years ago, my lungs were trashed from a bad pneumonia.  My days of playing wind instruments are over.

 

My current artistic outlet is astrophotography.  Being "on the spectrum" as they say, I relate better to machines than to many humans, and astrophotography is a very technical and computer-intensive artform.  I relate well to the process and it is appreciated more than my musical efforts were. 

 

I haven't done much in the past year due to the disruption from moving, and winter setting back the necessary re-installation of equipment.  But I did recently re-process some image data that I collected a year ago.  I am quite pleased with the result.  This is the Great Orion Nebula.

The best artwork I've produced involves woodworking. I've produced functional metal works for the emergency response community Police, Fire, and Chemical manufacturing companies. I'm building a forge to move into artistic metal work in the near future. I enjoy music, plays, and comedy however when it comes to those things my best contribution is being in the audience.
