I like the reference to "trans broken arm syndrome."  I've experienced it myself.  The more research, the better, certainly.  The problem as I see it, especially concerning reports in the popular press, is that preliminary results are often used to "prove" someones POV, or are misunderstood or used in a political way.  That is never helpful, and it isn't confined to reporting on trans health care issues.  For example, how many times have we read or heard about studies that "prove" coffee is bad, or chocolate is bad, or eggs are bad, etc., only to read weeks or months later that the opposite is true?  In the case of trans health care, it all gets politicized, too.

Was just thinking (worrying?) about this since I have had an issue arise and need to see a new-to-me specialist, so sifting through the (in-network) doctors and trying to find one who gives the impression that they'd treat my condition and not try to wean me off HRT first.

I like several main items in this post that have excellent direction.

 

The research on Trans is most likely to have a large benefit for the Cis population, both male and female wise, and impact other physical health issues that ALL humans share is an excellent goal. 

 

They recognize that Trans experience is desirable in the formulation and analysis of the research project should be sought, but is not mission critical to conducting the research if Trans cooperation on the research team is not available.  Without Trans input or analysis, their research can be highly valid.

 

The Trans Broken Arm issue is a big issue and possibly needs to be addressed from a cultural POV as much as just Medical care team status . Robert Eads, a Trans Man died of ovarian cancer after being refused treatment at a number of  SE U.S. hospitals due to the nature of his cancer, and basically the societal fears of the medical profession https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_Comfort_(2001_film)  The research directed by this post will address that.

 

The comments on the fears about FERTILITY of young people being the PRIMAL SCREAM fear of so many people in regard to Puberty Blockers while short, at least identifies the nature of several lines of good research that needs to be done on persons other than Trans.  For Trans, it could involve our contributions toward the nurture of children we do not procreate, but which serves society and the upbringing of all children in dignified and fulfilling ways.
