Best Buy offers to screen LGBTQ nonprofit donations after conservative pressure, filing shows

Instead of a news section, I wonder if we do not need a section titled: You Can't Make This Stuff Up.

Apparently, a conservative think tank is getting Best Buy to audit what their employees are donating to, in order to route out LGBTQ support. Is this the 1930s in a European country with designs of having a thousand year empire? What I do not get is Best Buy pandering to this conservative PAC, but then again, we saw how the anti-LGBTQ, and especially the anti-trans forces attacked Budweiser, and Target.

Best Buy has not been on my "highly preferred" list for some time now because of in-store service in my area.  One security guard, one manager always on break for 8 hours, 5 sales "advisors" in regard to several million $$ in merchandise that I may want to buy a small amount of, but cannot find what I want, and then told to order it online and I can pick it up in 5 hours when I need it NOW.  At least they have not pegged me as Trans for a long time, but you get that they have one unhappy Trans person who has been there.  On the bright side I don't have to worry about financing their donations to anti-trans causes this way because I am not buying anything there.

The Trevor Project, GLAAD and Sage; an organization whose mission is to save the lives of trans youth, an organization dedicated to the inclusion and fair representation of LGBT people in the media, and SAGE, an organization dedicated to the health, safety and legal rights of LGBT elders.  These are among the groups the NCPPR is targeting?  WTH to they have to do with trans minor's surgeries, of which there are almost none?

 

Bigotry and hate rear their ugly heads, and corporate America cowers in fear.  Disgusting and disheartening, but not surprising.  The haters have made their point with their boycotts.  🥺  ☹️

That's kind of the risk businesses accept when they decide to take a stance on an issue.  Any issue.  There have certainly been efforts aimed at "right wing" or conservative businesses.  Chick-fil-a being notable.  In general, I think businesses usually make the best profits if they avoid divisive issues and focus on selling stuff.  Of course there's always exceptions to that idea, where sales increase from notoriety.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. Of most concern though to me is the overreach into exploring what your own employees are personally choosing to support, and then reporting this to a private political action group. This is censorship in that the information could be used adversely. What any employee decides to donate to as a worthy cause should be at the discretion of that employee, and the employer should not be doing any data-mining. 

 

It saddens me to think that we get demonized for merely existing. I have experienced my own level of unfounded hate from a fundamentalist who proclaimed to be a scholar of divinity, and I will never forget it. More concerning is the future the younger generations are going to be facing. These kids are so vulnerable, and what is missing is how little many of these trans kids have in the way of resources.
