Speeding ticket

Lorelei

Recommended Posts

I was stuck behind a truck for like 6 miles doing 30 in a 45mph zone and when I got the opportunity to pass it I took it. Sped up and passed it and then noticed the flashing lights behind me… I just got my first tickets (other than parking tickets) in the 26 years that I have been driving. The speed limit changed in that area and it was a long downhill grade so apparently I was going 60 in a 40 zone. I was so nervous that I was shaking. Speeding and no registration (it is fully registered and insured but I couldn’t find the registration card). It was still affirming though in that I used my license showing my name to be Lorelei and got “maam’ed” by the cop. He was very professional and told me to plead not guilty and that he would reduce the charges if I came to court. Hopefully he will reduce the ticket to something that doesn’t give points. He told me that I should have given him my PBA card (a friend of mine’s husband is a cop had given it to me) with my license, not after the ticket is already written. The registration ticket will go away once I provide proof that it is registered.  I already ordered the replacement registration from NYS DMV online. Unfortunately the registration is still registered to my deadname of Rory so I will have to bring that up to the judge unless I can get to DMV first to change it first. Overall, this morning sucked.

OMG @Lorelei! I hope you have some time today to do something kind for yourself! That sounds so stressful.

@Loreleiit always sucks getting a ticket for passing a slower vehicle. I'm guessing the police officer was some distance behind you until you performed your passing maneuver. My most costly ticket was from a similar situation, however we were heading out of town and the last straight stretch of road to pass the two slower vehicles ahead of me was still in a 35mph zone. I didn't see the officer behind me and as soon as I pulled out to pass he turned on his lights and siren. Since I was in the process of passing, I figured the next safe place to pull over was at the upcoming roadside park. He didn't accept that and wrote me up for passing two gaps, speed in excess of 15mph over, and failure to stop. He did not care to hear about any fellowship in public safety, and no professional curiosities would be honored.  I did go to court plead my case and the judge, and he did see my point of continuing to pass with the intentions of pulling over safely at the roadside park. He was very familiar with the location. This allowed him to drop the failure to stop charges, but I did have to pay the full 15mph over speeding ticket. So my lesson learned was to never pass when entering or leaving a small town or village.

Hugs, and good luck in court.

Good luck maam 😊

I’ve experienced that they’ll lower the points , if you show up in court and pay the ticket.

The worst possible scenario is 4 points on my license, which a defensive driving course will negate it. I had considered getting a lawyer, but it is probably not worth the expense.

It was stupid of me, the cop was in front of me in a u-turn cut in a spot I know about. I was running a little late because of the slow truck, and the cop happened to be there today. It is like one of only three places for a speed trap on my commute. I usually don’t speed as I try to leave enough of a time buffer in the morning.

If you get a ticket, always say not guilty and go to court. Much of the time, the officer will not show up, and often the district attorney or the judge will not want to take the time. They ticket harvest because most people just agree to the fine and send them a check by mail.

If you are not a commercial driver, Most states also have a ticket forgiveness program. You take a little easy Driver's Ed Course, and it doesn't go on your record or increase your insurance prices. Explore your options!

That is am what I planning on. Take the defensive driving class after the conviction and all goes away aside from the fine I pay. My vehicle is a commercial vehicle (10,000+ pound diesel pickup truck with commercial plates), but since I exclusively use it for personal use so I do not need or have a CDL.

https://www.hrw.org/news/2024/05/15/peru-chooses-bigotry-medical-services     The Health Ministry tried to put the best face on this unscientific gibberish of a decree, but it won't diminish the harm it will do to the Pervian trans community.  They undoubtedly already suffer from severe discrimination and bigotry in a very macho-opriented society.   Carolyn Marie

I'd never heard of it until reading this.  From the thread title I thought it had something to do with the state of Idaho.  But perhaps combined with something about Hobbits, which seemed odd.  My brain goes in weird directions.

I had my surgery 11 years ago, and yes, I too find it much more of an urgent thing than it ever was before.  One possible culprit is going to be T blockers if you are still on them, also the urethral sphincter which holds the pee back is closer to the urethral opening now and more subject to stimulation. When we gotta go we gotta goooooo!!

I notice that the Wikipedia article does not mention the U.S.A. which I can understand a bit.  The entire month of June here is Pride Month for all the organizations and is tied to the 1969 Stonewall Inn riots in New York and also our medical authorities are also not tied as thoroughly to the WHO as they are to the American Psychological and American Psychiatric Associations which write the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Health which is generally in line with the WHO which does not play as big a part in our medical practices here.  The WHO does not impact us the way it does the other world countries which is why we are in the dark about the day.  Ironically though, one of the U.S. States is named Idaho which sadly is one of the most conservative and frustrating to the U.S. LGBTQ Community.   The day is international though in the sense of other European and Southern Hemisphere countries it seems.

Hmm. Must have been that pesky 'International' word which made me assume that it was well known! I only became aware of it myself last year.   Brief history: May 17th is the day IDAHOBIT is acknowledged as it is the anniversary of when in 1990 the World Health Organization declassified homosexuality as a mental disorder. It was conceived in 2004 and first celebrated in 2005. It has gone on to include trans folk in 2009 and bi folk in 2015.   International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia - Wikipedia

A year and a half post op. I've noticed that once the urge to pee hits, I can only hold it for about 15 minutes or so until it gets to the point where I feel like I'm going to piss myself. I used to be able to hold it a lot longer (as I  remember it).  I know my urethra is a bit shorter now, but I don't think it is enough to account for this. Am I imagining it?

What a great moment @Vidanjali! It's always so cool knowing people are reading you in a way you want to be seen.

It's also networking.  Sometimes jobs come along because someone knows someone else - these older people might know someone.  "Hey, Ashley," someone might say,"My nephew is looking for love. He likes tall women. Whatcha think? Can he call you?"   Don't discount their ability to match make.  It is about networking.

He is simply doing to get more votes. He held a Trump for trans during his first run and found out the majority of his voters were against us so he simply followed the crowd.

The sad part is I'm the third oldest member. One is in their 60's and the other is past 70's. I'm even older than the president lol. It's a younger crowd that's for sure. I like to come here to feel young again lol.

Ashley, I think searching for relationships are a lot like searching for jobs, they tend to come along when you aren't actually looking.  Perhaps you could step back from actively searching, at least for a little while, and instead, concentrate on just being out and about as yourself.  Like Mae and Abby have already mentioned, just keep up your volunteering, but don't focus on a need to find someone.  Maybe, just maybe, changing your tactics will result in someone finding you.    I do wish only the best for you, and I hope someone comes along who connects with you.
