Deadly Shooting at Tel Aviv Gay Center

2 dead 10 wounded mostly teens

http://www.voanews.com/english/2009-08-02-voa4.cfm

"The shooter, who witnesses say was dressed in black, unloaded an automatic weapon on a group of teenaged boys and girls attending a support group in the community center's basement, and then made a clean getaway. The dead and wounded were said to be young people, including teenagers."

I don't know why they hesitate to label something like this as a hate crime.

It is pretty obvious that the group was targeted because of being gay - the close down suggested for the gay clubs indicates that the police know this is a hate crime so why hesitate to label it as such.

Another sad reminder of how small minded the world is and how violent the small minded are.

Love ya,

Sally (still sold on the idea that love is stronger than hate)

This one made me cry. This guy targeted children. It's not only a hate crime but was likley religiously motivated. Sadly some religious groups I can think of will be cheering. It is time these groups took responsibility for the hatred they sow. Hatred is not God's message. It is man's who justifies it in his name.

Now the VOA site also says the authorities are calling it a hate crime. And though I haven't yet been able to find confirmation in a story, Google news is saying that three have now died. Israel has been a haven for gay people in the Middle East, even for some gay Palestinians. Prime Minister Netanyahu (conservative on so many political issues) has put out a strong statement of support for the victims and their families. That is a minimal bit of light in what is otherwise such a sad day.

Wow... I *just* got back from an awesome sleepover party I had with the queer youth group I go to... That's *really* scary, *really* messed up. (I'm just glad I'm in California, not Israel, though apparently there are still a lot of other queer kids who are)

That's a hate crime if I ever saw one. I hope they catch the guy and that the young adults that were injured make a speedy recovery. I can't say much for the two that died other than I hope their souls find peace in the midst of all this. It is a shame that someone would attack the world's future.

Ultra Orthodox Jewish groups have a lot in common with the Christian Right, when it comes to tolerance

for the GLBT Community. They simply have none. They will never change. Our Community has to

be constantly vigilant. We have to protect ourselves. No one else will.

I read about this event in todays newspaper. Everytime I read something like this it moves me to tears. I don't think I will ever, EVER understand why hate is ok in the minds of some of these "religious" people. I get turned off of religion when I see things like this. Then I get angry and end up going back to sad. Is it just me or does there seem to be another increase, a "ratcheting up" if you will, of hate crimes against the LGBTQ community throughout the world?

As we all know... more people have been killed in the name of "God" than for any other reason. All religious leaders must understand that they have the responsibility to show LOVE. Acts like this, discredits religion, discredits humanity, discredits us all.

This was an act of a coward. As too often happens. Instead of having the courage of understanding, the shooter hid behind their beliefs, not reason. This shooter attacked the weakest. This shooter is a coward and vile. This shooter is not a representative of God's love, justice, nor humanity.

Religion....

Be wary of those who say that they know the word of God for they are liers and false prophets.

:o I don't even know what to say. God would never have anyone kill anyone in God's name. The commandments don't say thou shall not kill unless their a [insert minority group]. I'm sickened.

Now are we absolutely positive there's a religios group behind this.

Because if we are not doesn't an accusation against any religious group without facts make us just as bad as those who work to condemn us.

I'm sorry for asking so many questions about your situation. I'm in your camp and believe you should be able to be whoever you feel you need to be. I guess it the Union Shop Stewart coming out in me. I want you to be treated fairly as well as respectably. You're human, you're a client of theirs. Especially if you're paying money to be there.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Views, terminology, and aspects of how events came to be....aren't those directly related to the news item?  If not, I'm rather confused.

Second warning, this has gotten far and apart from the NEWS item that it started out with and is becoming a flat out battleground over political leanings and terminology.

Welcome to Lefty Land.... a festive theme park full of sparkles and unicorns, a perfect place except for one evil orange dragon wearing a blond wig.    I'm always amazed at the "flexibility" of definitions.  One person's f@scist seems like a centrist to others.  One person's "moderate" looks to others like the 2nd coming of Fidel Castro.  A normal marriage a century or two ago is now a criminal offense, and relationships that used to be a criminal offense are now open, normal marriages.  Pedophiles now want to be called "minor attracted persons" and teenagers are now defined as children.  A Republican in NY or CA would be a Democrat just about anywhere else.  I'm certainly no advocate for relativism, these are just observations.    What I find interesting about this Australian candidate is the attitude that he shouldn't be allowed to run for office.  Why?  Just because his views are different, or even offensive?  Who makes that determination?  Can an election really be open and fair if it is barred to candidates who are not "politically correct?"  Here in the USA, we can openly have candidates who are f@scist or any other thing they want to be, no real restrictions aside from eligibility requirements related to age, location, citizenship, and criminal record.

@Birdie You certainly have more patience than I do.  I don't take it well if I get scolded.  Either I sulk or I get nippish.    We had a good Mother's Day here yesterday.  Quite an event, since 4 of my partners are mothers.  GF enjoys it a lot, because she's very (excessively?) proud of having produced her 5 kids.  Her eldest starts school this fall.  Amazing how time flies...

Reminds me of elementary school when a kid yanked my chair as I was taking a seat. I told him to "go suck an egg" and we both got sent to the principals office. I was like, "tf did I do to deserve that?"

Firstly, it's nice to hear that your other half is now open to you living as you are!   Secondly, things I have noticed, having started shots just before the New Year: Tears do come much more easily I am far more tender with my wife and I like to snuggle more I have noticed anxiety has an increased effect on me I am on a weekly injection, so when I get near my next shot I have noticed feeling a little emotionally "blah" After shots I am much more energetic and bubbly Otherwise, I wouldn't say I've been on any kind of roller coaster of emotion and I'm far from unstable. So take heart and congratulations!

Three reprimands in a certain time frame? It seems like they should drop off the calendar after a period of time. How long can they hold a reprimand on the calendar?   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Congratulations on getting the go ahead with HRT. I'm so ready for my wife to drop her opposition. As for the mood swings... I would look forward to them myself.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋
