Testosterone

I know that you have to be eighteen for permission to start testosterone blah, blah, blah, but I'm sure we've all seen videos about teens who have started at fifteen or sixteen and I was just wondering if that's actually a realistic possibility anywhere? Are there places where you can start testosterone at an earlier age?

Thanks.

You could start at 15-16 but I think you would need parental permission to do so. I'm not sure of that but perhaps there are others here who would know for sure.

if you have parental permission you can get it when you're 14 or 15, in manitoba at least, it really shouldn't be that different in alberta. actually, i'm 13 and i'm already on a list to get it, so if you're 15 or 16 and have parental permission it shouldn't be a problem.

Hi Jake.

I've been looking into answers to the same question, for a friend of mine. I don't if if it's the same in Alberta but in B.C it seems that if you have parental consent ( I don't know proper terms ) they can give you something to block the effects of puberty, and if it's too late I'm under the impression you can begin taking testostorone after the required "assessments''.

Again not sure if this different in other provinces, but hope it helps.

Good luck

Kayt

Yeah, I'm pretty sure you can. I'm not fully aware of the effects of stopping, but I have heard of many people who have. I envy you as well Marco. =P Lucky.

Permanatly?

I know people who have stopped. Muscles go away. Fat shifts back. Voice and facial hair hang around. There are definitely guys around who have taken T and stopped.

Yeah, but usually they still have ovaries, right? If you don't have ovaries to provide estrogen, SOME form of sex hormone, and then you stop taking T, so you have no hormones, then isn't that bad? Like for your bones and stuff?

I started when I was 17 (I'm in the U.S.). My parents had to give me permission, though.

Stopping T after you've had an oopho is dangerous (unless you start taking estrogen instead). It puts you at risk for osteoporoses, among other things. Stopping without having an oopho will make some (but not all) the changes go away, but it isn't dangerous.

to get T i have to wait Till I'm 18 --"

Not necessarily. If it's your doctor saying that, a different one might think differently. If it's your parents, they might come around. (My parents said I had to wait until I was 18, but they changed their minds)

In Canada, you can get Androgen blockers very early, and Testosterone from puberty, IF your doctors/therapists feel it's appropriate, and if you have parental consent. The problem with that is finding doctors and therapists who feel someone is ready for that kind of decision at a young age.

It can and has happened.

HAHAHA, I just reread what I posted. I'm such a ditz... Androgen blockers wouldn't be very useful for someone going on T would it :P

You know what I mean though.

Yeah in the US you need parents' consent under 18, though I am not sure of the lower limit on it. Seems in this case the biggest obstacle is parents and/or monetary issues. I am struggling with the latter currently :-/ (though I am almost 20 and my parents have been pretty supportive so far.)

I will post my experiences with getting T . I have a old thinking doctor and going to him and explaining myself , his reply was to get my T levels checked . So I was given a blood test to see what was my T levels are. result the lowest he had seen . no kidding.. I said . So his answer ..we need to get you on T shots and you will feel like a man again.. Really I said .. so here I am taking testosterone to cure my feelings of feeling like a female. Result ..still have female feelings. but wow ..muscle tone increased ..energy up.. weight loss big plus probably from desire to work out more! Point making.. if your brain thinks like and is a male brain than testosterone will may help you as your body transforms to having more of a male physical appearence. My experience no pill , no hormone as of now will or can change my true self..only my physical body! Hope this helps , you are what you are mentally. No amount of how old you are.. will ever change your true self . Make your decisions carefully and factual ! most of all be happy.

I started at 17. I had parental consent, though. The first doctor I went to was a big waste of time, she led me on and made it seem like she'd prescribe me the T, then ended up calling to say she wouldn't because I wasn't 18. It was an extremely discouraging 6 months wasted. Toward my 18th birthday I found a different doctor, a naturopath, who started me on T right away. I had my letter already, of course.

My size. A lot of guys aren't 5'3" at seventeen. My hands. It's a less noticeable one, but my hands are very "feminine"? If you know what I mean. My voice. Very high-pitched. I don't just sound like a female, I sound like a little girl sometimes My chest. I've had to stop binding due to frequent aches doing so, and it's not nearly small enough to just cover with baggy clothes My family. They still call me she/her, so that's an automatic out. My anxiety. I might be able to pass better if I had the courage to correct people. Instead, I'm too scared to speak up, so I find it hard. My lack of men's clothes.   Anyone else have these problems, or other ones?

From what I have read and heard most people are so.busy with their everyday lives and either looking at their phones or in a hurry to notice you out and about.

This exactly ^^^   I actually really liked games where I was required to play a male character. It felt homey, in a way.

I can relate.  I have always played a female character when given the opportunity. Not really and reason except I just alway pick them since I was young

Yes, our little town is having its 3rd annual Pridefest. I've volunteered the first two years  from setup to tear down (though I do take an hour off to eat and drink in the middle).     Then I attend a bigger one a couple towns over that has had some decent entertainment from some semi-famous folks (Laura Benanti, Patrick Wilson, Carmen Carrera, Judy Gold, etc).    This year I made sure to ask off of (weekend) shifts to attend a 3rd one where a group I'm in is in the parade.

Hi Vicky, I agree with you, so far since the time I've been under the new treating doctor's care, she prescribed me medication, but it's for children lol  luckily  my pharmacy warned me from a phone call not to take the medication.

Welcome to the party, M.A.     Sounds chaotic haha, I can confidently say that living with only two children the same age is stressful enough, much less three!

Things hit the fan today. I was reminded that "this is not a gender fluid establishment."   I had changed my preferred name and gender at the hospital on their app. My x-ray report came in with my preferred name and gender. It was not appreciated by the centre. 😬

I'm not a nutritionist but I've gone on bulking diets in the past so I can suggest a couple things to try. Foremost, food-prep stuff that you like to eat. Any 'real food' that usually sounds good to you. That way, you don't have the time-sink or hassle of cooking for every meal. You're more likely to eat if stuff if it's convenient and mostly ready. For example, I'll spend an hour or so one evening prepping burrito ingredients that will last me the next 3 nights. Then it's just a matter of microwaving the beef/beans and throwing them into a tortilla; takes 5 min.   If you need food 'on the go' often, consider prepping smoothies in advance pre-separated out into individual containers. I personally like low-no fat yogurt blended with fruit and, here's the weird part, those water flavor drops. They add sweetness without dumping in excess sugar. Insulated containers will keep them reasonably fresh non-refridgerated all day so they can even be tossed into a backpack.    Hope of those sparked some ideas!
