Yes, i know that i am androgyny, and a 16 year old male, but i mean am i a guy or girl on the inside? It's just gotten to the point now that i don't even know what side to act on or what i want. Whenever i'm acting on my masculin side, my feminin side wants to do stuff, and when i'm on my feminin side, my masculin side wants to do stuff. But i can't do all the stuff at the same time. I can't watch a chick flick while i play an action video game. (you get the picture) it's just really starting to annoy me so much. I'm getting closer and closer to 0 on the COGIATI grading scale. I took it about a year ago and i got 100. I took it a month ago and got a 40. And then i took it again yesterday because i was bored and got a 20.

If only we lived in a society where we could do everything at once and not be judged at all, i would be sooooo happy.

Hello Raven428,

I wouldn't obsess over it too much. Just go with the flow and be what you want to be at any given moment. If this is really bothering you, perhaps a gender therapist could help you sort it out.

Don't worry about COGIATI results; I don't know the name of the theory, but I think it's something to do with a variable changing when it is measured... Personally, COGIATI has only reaffirmed what I already 'knew' and have struggled with for the past four years. As far as your feminine and masculine side competing, look for compromises: I am not about to jump into stereotypes such as suggesting you play a video game targeted to girls, only you can decide what is right for you.

You don't have to be a guy or a girl on the inside. You could be both or neither. Gender is far from being a black & white issue. Personally, I don't identify as either on the inside. Gender expression wise: As a girl I was a weird mix of tomboy and femme. As a guy I was a feminine guy. As an androgynous being, I don't know I guess I'm now just more comfortable as I am starting to stop worrying about passing sooo much (I'm still living as a guy, just an androgynous one). If that makes any sense :P

Hi Mani,

I have scored a -30 on the COGIATI test. Do you see yourself as a "Billy Idol" the singer type of personna? I see myself as "Al" the buddy of "Tool Man Tim" on TV.

I am not familiar at all with who Billy Idol is or what a Billy Idol persona would be.

Where is this test thing?

COGIATI Test

Please note: "The Combined Gender Identity And Transsexuality Inventory is precisely and narrowly targeted to the Male-to-Female Pre-Operative, Pre-Transitional individual who is currently unsure of what they really want or who they really are."

You can be both or neither.

It doesn't matter.

I'm predominately male, but I change everyday. Sometimes, I'm middle. Sometimes, I'm female. Sometimes I'm male.

It depends on what you want. Go with the flow and see what you want.

I like the question..... really. who am i when?..... Raven, I really think on this topic the prior postings very good advice:

MaryEllen's post #2

Conri's post #5

KyleMichael post #12

giovanni post#3

all these people gave very good advice.

I would like to give you my imput:

please consider taking time to really look at your character, who you are inside. where your passions are, how you veiw different situations through a given day (do you view them in a masc. or fem. or in between manor). that "bem" test works really well to help you understand your psychological pulls toward masculine actions, fem. actions, and in between actions. I have found the better we understand ourselves in depthly, for the androgyne (me) I know this has been true. When a situation arises where a fem characteristic is comes out of me, I know I have given it attention/care to allowing those traits to be nurtured and grow/get better. Allow yourself time to learn about yourself, and enjoy that time. take what good comes out of you and what you enjoy in life and cultivate it, embrase yourself. what you don't like about yourself, maybe like a hyper masculine agruementative temper, embrase it too! Only by doing so will you know best how to destroy that within your character, and rebuild it to something you like such as a calm problem solver instead.

sorry for any mis-spellings

Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle. (I totally learned that from Numb3rs... Charlie spent the whole second episode talking about how the path of an electron is changed by the act of observing it, and comparing it to bank robbers.)

I agree completely. My friend recently came out as TS and got all of her friends to take the COGIATI test, switching the categories and imagining for those of us who are biologically female. I scored a 185 the first time--classification 4, "Probable Transsexual". Nice. So I'm probably a girl. Knew that already. Actually, that's what I was thinking about the whole time I took the test, and my answers--and score--reflect that.

Point is, one of my friends scored classification 3, "Androgyne". I was the next most androgynous, according to my score. I retook the test with that in mind, and my score dropped by 55 points, to 130. Want to know the cutoff for Androgyne? 129. Now I can't get it out of my head, even though I know I skewed the test both times based on what I was thinking about/what I expected and wanted it to say. I don't trust that test completely the first time, let alone the second or third. A test that's based on personal preference will be skewed at any given point in time by what instances you're taking your evidence from.

As to who and what you are, I agree with what others have said: You don't have to choose forever. You can switch. I do martial arts, beat up guys twice my size, and then I go home and dance. I was the only girl (or thought I was, until this year when my friend came out as TS) in the advanced math class that's existed specially for us since sixth grade. I've been friends with said TS friend since fourth grade, even though back then everyone just thought 'he' must be gay because he liked pink so much. (Now we have the perfect answer: No, she's not! She's a lesbian!) At the same time, she loves video games. Another of my friends is so secure in his masculinity that he'll say he would eat such-and-such a guy with a spoon. Basically, I dislike gender roles as a whole, so I say go ahead and choose whichever one you like, as you like.

I'll end with one of my favorite quotes: "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind." I forget who said it, if I ever knew, but I love it.

I don't use it.   One of my daughters gave me a little to experiment with, but I haven't.  My youngest tried to put some on me once, but I din't like it.  The light was pretty bad admittedly. My ex didn't use it, and my daughters didn't use it much either when they were still at home.  (If so it was very subtle) And I don't often notice it on women my age (mid 70's)   I shave every day.  But my beard is not heavy, and essentially grey, so it's not real noticeable unless you get close with good light.  I was starting to look into electrolysis, but the pandemic hit, and I just kinda dropped it.   Sometimes I do wonder about it though.

It's something I'm just learning but I find I actually enjoy the 'craft' of it in addition to how it makes me look. Even after a fresh shave, I have a mild 5'clock shadow. For me, the primary use of makeup is to get rid of that. I'll start with the orange concealer over facial hair areas and a bit under my eyes. Liquid foundation over that and light concealer used judiciously over that (still dialing that part in). Then just a tad of powder to bring color back in certain places. There are a number of Youtube tutorials on that layering process.    I'll also pencil in my eyebrows a bit since they're blonde and otherwise not very visible. Sometimes I'll get adventurous and give mascara a try but that's a delicate skill and usually I mess it up. I don't particularly like lipstick, but just ordered a 'lip pencil' to experiment with. Hoping for a more subtle effect.

Sunday is my weekly ablution day - all of the parts that need occasional shaving get their required attention. The weather is rainy and cool today so after the ablutions and shower, I put on blue jeans, a gray t-shirt and a black front-zip hoodie along with gray sneakers.   And, I did put on make-up, not to impress anyone but just to feel as if I'm looking my best....as good as that can be given this woman is now 69 years old.

There are lots of us here willing to offer support, ideas, a shoulder or just a smile. Working with your therapist and finding your true self can be difficult process...but it will also be filled with wonder and joy as you discover that person who's been waiting inside you to be found.   Just know that you are not alone.

Thank you KayC!  I am just trying to keep breathing. I don't have a huge amount of time in my life for self exploration.  My job and responsibilities have me second guessing all my inner work.  I do have time off in the summer - coming up soon as I am a teacher.  Only a few workshops.  Looking forward ward to some introspection.     :) Mealaini

Yes, essentially. As Julia Serano says, they view trans outcomes as intrinsically worse than cis outcomes.

Yeah, a lot of times I don't really have anything to add to the conversation. There are some threads I seldom post on.
    • Ivy
I have seen some things about this.  As I remember it was not very trans-friendly. The people doing these things seem to minimize the positive aspects of transition, and maximize the potential problems. Basically, make it as difficult as possible (without outright banning it) to discourage anyone from doing it.

Good morning    woke up to some light rain this morning.  Maybe I should run out with a giant umbrella to cover the car.   Ha ha ha.     I’ve had really nice cars before but never something like this.     @KymmieL I hope you got to go on your ride. Back when I had my Harley we went out for a ride almost every weekend. We would head either SW down the Shenandoah Valley or Skyline Drive which danced along the tops of the Mountains or we would head west into West Virginia and just travel along until it was time to find our way home.   occasionally I wish I still had a bike but I usually quickly for get that. The only thing I ever wanted as a young person that I never had was a late 50s vette.

I admit to wearing make-up. Actually, I'll admit to enjoying wearing make-up. For me, it's been part of learning about myself as a woman and finding a style and look that reflects my personality.    Sometimes, it will just be a bit of mascara and a touch of lipstick. But, most often I wear foundation with setting powder, gel eyeliner, mascara, a little blush on my cheek line and lipstick. I also use an eyebrow pencil to darken my brows a bit.  Infrequently, I will add some eye shadow.   Most of my make-up is from Mary Kay although my lipsticks or from various manufacturers and eyeliners are mostly Maybelline. My wife purchases most of her make-up from Mary Kay and so we order together from our local representative. Of course, I don't have much brand experience but I'm happy with the Mary Kay products and find myself transitioning almost entirely to their line of make-up.
