Yesterday morning while sitting in Starbucks (just a couple of chairs over from where I am sitting now) making use of the free Internet I received a friend request from an old college band friend - she has eleven mutual friends with me (all old band members) so she probably already knew.

I accepted the request and sent her a short message about how things are now - her response was, "Are you coming to Homecoming this year?"

I was sort of surprised but it has always been a lot of fun, getting to play the horn on a football field again for the pre-game show and seeing all of the old gang - there is where it gets a bit more interesting - I have been in touch with only a few of the old gang and several of them live in Portland and Anchorage so I do not expect to see them.

I do need a break from work and moving so I was thinking about going - with the attitude of 'if they have a problem with it it is just that, their problem."

What do you think, should I go or stay here and stare at boxes?

Just as a foot note the Mighty Horned Frogs are 4 and 0 right now.

Love ya,

Sally

OK, I am sorry.

I put this up yesterday as the battery was dying on my laptop - I made it impossible for anyone to see the results of the voting and in making it possible to see and of course to allow comments I managed to erase the votes that were placed.

So, I believe that I have it right this time so I would appreciate any comments and votes - yes even if you have voted before - it got lost into cyber-space and I am not on good terms with the Cybermen at the moment.

Love ya,

Sally

Should you stare at boxes? Not unless they're going to do a trick.

Should you go to Homecoming? *shrug* that one's up to you.

I do understand this as a tough one....Maybe if you restructure the question a bit. Try this. How much would it mean to you to play the horn again (as you put it) on a football field that clearly has memories and meaning to you? Adding in your Alma-mater is doing well......And, how much dose the view, of your former band members, on you matter to you today? If you go, when you look back in ten years how do you think you will view the event. If you don't go, in ten years how do you feel you will view that decision. I understand the wanting to do something and at the same time still trying to hide, for me...I wouldnt go, but then again I would later wish I had. What are the pro's of going? What are the cons? At the end what weighs more the pro's or cons? If the pro's weigh more then go, if the cons weigh more stay home looking at boxes.

The looking back ten years from now is a very good point because I tend to do that a lot and I have already stacked up six decades of regrets - I think that should be enough for one lifetime.

I requested three vacation days for Friday, Saturday and Sunday of that weekend - I am planning on going!

I would want to go to see the reactions of my very best presentation, but that is just the vanity of Jody. Giggle. Have a good time kiddo and give us the juicy details upon return. Hug.

Hi Sally,

I just saw your thread now.

I think it would be great to see your old friends. Maybe there would be an opportunity to play your trumpet.

You know, your friends should know the real you.

The boxes will always be there to stare at anyway.

What nice memories you could make if you go.

Love.

A new development - my sister has an appointment with her glaucoma specialist in Fort Worth on Thursday - this morning she told me that she wants to get a room for Thursday night and meet me there on Friday, hang around together and go to the game on Saturday and then head for home Sunday.

My sister is the one who understands the term unconditional love - it should be great!

Love ya,

Sally

That's super, Sally. At least you have one family member who "gets it." Good luck, with your sis and with the game. I wouldn't mind the Yankees playing Texas. We'll have no end of fun razzing each other. :P
