A Piece Of Adam's Apple

Kia Ora, Trans brothers and sisters,

 Now...a piece of Adam's apple stuck in a trans Eve's throat can 'choke' her chances of 'passing'...I only became aware of the fact that mine was somewhat pureed when the endocrinologist pointed this out during a routine examination a few years back. Well it's not that I don't have one...it's just well hidden-almost invisible to the naked eye.

Yesterday at work I was chatting to 'A' my partner in crime at C.A.B about trans issues-she is a trained psychotherapist who just so happens had worked with trans-people back in the UK back in the early eighties. She commented that the Adam's apple was a dead give away when it comes to some trans women even the ones who are quite passable ie, feminine facial features and body shape. She said some looked authentic from a distance but up close the dreaded piece of Adam's apple that's lodged in their throat became quite obvious.

Now this got me thinking-[the reason I'm posting this]...Even though some genetic females have protruding lumps in their throat-having a protruding Adam's apple seems to be predominantly a male thingy... I put this question to trans-men/boys...Has not having an Adam's apple ever been an issue for you when it comes to passing ?

Trans-women/girls might also like to comment on Adam's apple...I know that there's a surgical procedure in which they shave it down[a tracheostomy or something like that] have any trans Eves had that done or are thinking of having it done ?

Hey Ho Jendar,

I DO I DO Pick Me Pick Me...Want my Adams Apple shaved that is.

We have an otherwise very passable woman in our group that spent big bucks on FFS.

But...she didn't opt for the Chronoplasty(shaving of the apple).

Why, i have no idea.Julia,is a good looking woman otherwise.

Maybe,being a transwoman i see things some don't see.

If i can see and notice it . That means those in the straight community can too.

I spend all that caish...that booger is a goner.

Then again, maybe it doesn't bother her like it does me(having one)

I'm just thankful mine isn't like i swallowed a golfball and it got stuck on the way down.(thank goodness).

Given the chance...I do want the proceedure preformed.

I am currently looking in to the cost.

It's done on an out patient basis.

Is supposed to be relatively painless.

Three to four days recovery total.

That's great for something that can give so much satisfaction.

And...One Step Closer.

That's my take on your question.

Angie.

The Adam's apple, or the tracheal wall, is simply cartilage. Testosterone causes it to thicken... so no, I don't mourn it because I know one day I will have that masculine lump in my throat. It's the reason for the deeper booming voices of a masculine male.

Hey Jendar I am thinking of having my adams apple shaved when I am old enough because I have a very predominant adams apple it is very noticeable although I can still pass I'd rather it be invisible it saves time worrying if anyone can see it or not.

Kia Ora KL,

'A' the person who I work with at C.A.B had dealt with a number of trans-people in the past so she was more aware of what to look for in passible trans-women/girls...just as Angie mentioned, trans-people's gen-dar and those who work with trans-people have they gen-dar on 24/7...Normally the general public are not walking about with their 'gen-dar' on full beam and for the most part will not notice your 'adam's apple' unless they have it switched on ie, they question your gender identity for some reason...

Kia Ora Golden K, and thanks for that info I didn't know about it growing in trans-men...The next time I see my friend V [a trans-male] I'll look more closely at his throat and I bet the next time he see me he'll be wearing a big cross and carrying a big bunch of garlic :D:lol: Thinking I'm a vampire eyeing up his throat...

A trach shave is certainly on my list of wants/needs. I think it would be nice the be able to get everything done at the same time, but I know I'm dreaming there. The adams apple is visable or not, even if its pronounced, depending on body fat and or musculature. I wouldnt think not having one would make a ftm any less masculine, but since I seem to be becoming a stick figure mine is very apparent and bothersome.

Many boys my age have not yet been visited by the puberty fairy, so I am fine. My voice is quite passable, so I can wait for voice change, even though my current pitch has made me stop singing much.

I'm a bio-female, and I have one. (Almost) I also have a pretty deep voice, too. I can sing along with Amanda Palmer 98% of the time. For those of you who don't know who she is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbVjens1loc...feature=related

Pretty nifty song, too. I like it, because it makes me appear more masculine.

I think my adam's apple is a major give away. Its quite obious. More often than not its the dif. between mamn and sir.

"Pretty nifty song, too. I like it, because it makes me appear more masculine."

Your first sentence is about the song and the seccond is about your adam's apple right? The song does not make me feel masculine, I do love the Dresden Dolls! Im seeing them in a week!!!! Cant wait! BTW did you see this video of them?

it's all Transgender and hot/cabaret from 4:50 on!!

my adam's apple isn't huge big, but until a tracheal shave it's sometimes a good idea to always wear a choker or a scarf in winter (or a dog collar if that's more your thing ;) ), they cover it up and help to conceal a thick neck. or they cover up a lack of adam's apple, but that isn't such a big concern to most people.

happy new year everyone!!

This is an interesting topic. I'm kind of a fat guy, so not having much of an Adam's apple isn't that big of a deal. I have a very deep voice, I sang baritone in the choir in 7th grade. I've not started HRT yet, but people around me swear I have some strange hormonal imbalance because I'm very hairy, have a really deep voice, and am unnaturally muscular for a biological female.

Without question, I'm getting the shave :)

I would love to aim for one within 12 months.

I'm willing to sell off my high end PA system ($13,500 worth) for transition, I'm looking into bands, pubs and clubs that may be interested, I love my music and sound equipment, but nowhere near as much as need womanhood! :D:D

I may hopefully make enough back on it for a Trachea shave and Orchiectomy.

Oh yeah, a tracheal shave is definitely on my radar  I don't really think I'll have much interest in other FFS procedures, particularly with some of the dangers involved, but knocking my Adam's apple down a few pegs seems to be a pretty safe bet. My sister has always said I have a prominent one. I don't know about that, as I haven't exactly tried comparing mine to other guys, but I'll take her word for it! Personally I hate it, so that is just one more reason to get it shaved down.

I ama 60 year old TG and one thing that my wife has commented on is that I have NO noticeable Adams Apple. She says it allows me to go a long ways in passing.

My insufferable father was talking to me about his trip to New Orleans and he kept saying how he could spot the transsexuals there by their adam's apples. He made a mean joke about it and i was just like..uhhhh. I'm lucky enough to have a rather small adam's apple, and I have a really feminine face, so a trachea shave or FFS is last on my list of surgeries. I guess it has to do with me being only 16. And I know at least 3 genetic girls who have noticeable adam's apples...and as far as i know they aren't trans lol. So if anyone tries to call you out based on an adam's apple or lack thereof, you can just say that everyone's different...seeing as it is just cartilage, its not a unique organ.

Personally I think the biggest give away for me is my chest size (as in width, i have a darn barrel chest), but genetic girls/guys come in all shapes and sizes, so there's no way for one to be 100% sure unless they have access to medical records or some form of documentation. As I'm sure this has been said before, how you present yourself is the most important part of passing. (there's a transsexual who works at the mall near my house, and almost everyone i know doesn't read her, and she has a very noticeable adam's apple, most people don't even care enough to notice)

I type too much, im sorry :banghead:

Well, since the threads been resurrected :P I may as well chime in; I not only will take adams apple but the whole darn tree if ya let me lol.

Mine is just to the stage where its feelable. I hope it'll grow LOTS more. I also hope my voice will lower LOTS more.

And Drew, if you happen past, how long did it take for it to become "prominent"? Or was it prior?

I dont have much of a adams apple at all in fact I had my wife feeling around her neck to see if my neck was any differant then hers. This was prompted by my observing other males and seeing all the adams apples I tried to feel for mine in the same location as I observed and couldnt find one so it got me wondering. The only thing I could find is a slight and I do mean slight, about the thickness of a popsical stick laying flat, ridge that moves up and down when I swollow at the base of my neck right above the soft spot at the base of my neck.

I know all these technical terms are loseing you all :)

So whats the verdict do I have one?

But bottom line is if I can find one it is something I would have removed.

Technically, everyone has one, just it is much smaller on women, so it is associated with men :D

Finally I  am back online   I had to use the help of the contact form (not proud  of that, I always feel embarrassed and shy about contacting people), but here I am   missed all of you

I'm not happy to admit this, but I usually scream or break things.   Breaking things became a bit of a no no, because It was always a cd or something I liked and it got very expensive to replace stuff

Probably amusement parks. I've never been to one sadly, but I think I could talk for an hour about them without any problem

The name "Mississippi" comes from the Anishinabe tribe of Native Americans; the word means "Father of Waters."

frustration:  the frustration of creative instinct is a notorious evil of the machine age : the state or an instance of being frustrated. : a deep chronic sense or state of insecurity and dissatisfaction arising from unresolved problems or unfulfilled needs

That's horrible that they are blaming you for her presumption. I hate to say it but maybe they are looking for reasons.

I have no skin in the game here, apart from the signal that a re-elected Trump sends to likeminded politicians around the world, which would result in an indirect yet detrimental effect on many people here and elsewhere. So, hopefully what I write here can be used as a reference for how he, and American politics in general, is viewed from a country that is not directly involved.   It seems to me that politics is not taken seriously by enough people in America. Actually, specifically the USA (America can be anywhere from Prudhoe Bay to Panama to Patagonia). Electing a celebrity to high office just wouldn't happen here, let alone one who has overseen the bankruptcy of several of his business ventures and is embroiled in hush-money scandals. I remember during my teenage years when Reagen was elected; the main point of conjecture here was that he was just a B-grade actor. Equally laughable was Arnie as governor of California, although he turned out to be somewhat more socially progressive than most Republican politicians.    I simply cannot understand why the Dems cannot find a decent candidate. Biden has cognitive issues. Everyone expected Harris to step up by now, but no. Where's Jed Bartlet when you need him, lol! In my mind, if Martin Sheen threw his hat in the ring, he'd be elected in a heartbeat because many of you would actually believe that he was the real deal! Even though he's older than Biden!!!   Sorry if that sounds like I am trying to insult the intelligence of y'all. But y'all asked for it, by valuing celebrity over substance over the last five decades or so.    I have no doubt that Trump will win in November, even if he is in jail. His rusted-on supporters will just say, "Yep! That's our boy!!!"
