Full Body Scanners

For those in the community that are pre-op full time and need to travel, the impending increase in full body scanners represents a serious threat to our safety when we travel. While passage of ENDA will not reduce the embaressment nor directly provcide protections, it does establish a mind set within the federal government as well as increasing the chances of redress if you do experence a discrimatory act.

As a community, we have to become actively involved in passage of ENDA. I know that many cannot afford to live openly, but you can still support passage. For starters You can call your congress person or senator. If you are working, give up a meal out and send that money to a group fighting for passage.

There are enough votes to pass in both the house and senate but the bill has not been able to make it out of committee. It is doubtfull if it will until after the mid term elections - and then we have to see.

At the state level, apply pressure for state protection (or preserve protection if already in place). The more states that have protections in place, the easier it will be to get the national bill passed.

The current governor of MN appears to want to strike the T from GLBT in our state laws (got to protect our kids you know from teachers who one day is Jim and the next Jane)

Travel has always been one of those areas that troubled me, I will probably not fly while pre-op but I don't know for sure.

I had thought that driving would be pretty good, but then when we went to Memphis Donna Jean had car trouble and had to ride in a tow truck with a driver that wasn't exactly sure what to make of her (this was several months ago and she has changed a lot since then) and then waiting to rent a car, having to show her male driver's license and then trying to figure out how to use the restroom while presenting female but just having shown a male license - troubles and embarrassment can find you anywhere.

It is important to not let the T dropped from any legislation - we have no rights or protection as it is.

I will start my letter writing immediately.

Love ya,

Sally

I don't think fully body scanners really show that much down there. I think they just show what's in your pockets and under your clothes, and the general contours of your body. I could be wrong though.

I had to go through these this past holiday, and I have mixed opinions. The process was very quiet, its not like they were announcing who I was when I went through. Step in, arms up, a little thing spins around you quickly, and walk out. Sadly, this is the future, and while you could fight the battle to have it removed completely, perhaps a more realistic goal is needed. Right now, the software automatically blurs out faces and genitals (not breasts though), so as long as you are properly "tucked away" the screener shouldn't be able to tell anything. However, it only works about 60% of the time (I read that somewhere reputable, but I can't remember where now). I would like to see pressure put on the manufacturer to increase the accuracy of this area of the software, and its an achievable middle ground. The person seeing the image is in a remote location and can't see you, so they wouldn't know the difference or know who you are. Even if the software failed, and they could see your face and genitals, "ambiguous or mismatched" genitals are not a cause for alarm as long as there aren't explosives or something else strapped under your clothing (they can see different chemical compositions, so packers for the FtM should be ok). Also, even if it does "out you", would you ever see any of these screeners again? Doubt it. They won't remember you, and I doubt you will remember them. Of course, any one has the option of a full body pat down in lieu of the scanner, but I think that is much more intrusive since they reach around your breasts and inside your groin area.

Anyway, just my thoughts. I am used to very intrusive security though given my line of work, so most of these procedures don't bother me. You just get used to it and move on.

My partner recently traveled, and they were split into men and women for some security thing. My partner isn't transsexual, hasn't been on hormones or anything and is legally male, they're just naturally androgynous, and they got a ton of glares from the staff when they got into the 'male' line. That's pretty Gosh darned dangerous as well. :( We really need protection.

There was a good article on the Full body scan on CNN today; it even included shots of what the scanner opperator sees, and if you aren't packing anything suspicious what they see is more of an androgenous form. Its not an xray so it can't see in you it just penetrates your clothing and stops at your skin even the sex organs dont show.

This truly makes me nervous since I have plans to fly out and back into the U.S. in the next few months.

I really don't see the issue with these scanners. I mean, "Warning: TRANSSEXUAL" isn't going to flash on the screen in big bold red letters the moment you go through the thing, it's just an extra precaution put there for our safety.

I suppose the biggest fear id have is more with the line splitting. I mean, If you have only 2 lines, one for male and one for female, where do you go if your in between? lol

Whichever one your passport says, huni :P

Two mixed-gender lines?

Hell, make it four.

Yeah what I was stating was not simply a definite single-file ONE line only... just no segregation in the line(s).

Well, gender is probably the easiest way to split a group of people in two. And if the group of people is a random group, there will be close to equal males and females in most cases. It's easy to do, and most people don't mind it. Just here there seems to be a problem, because that's the nature of this forum.

No....no...no....

It's not just the nature of this forum!

This forum represents a cross section of people of all ages from everywhere...

Nuff of that!

And the simple reason that there is a male and female line is because there is a male and female screener looking at the screens...

Men wouldn't want a woman looking at their pic on the screen and visa versa!

The video I watched of it with actual screeners at the airport clearly showed genitalia. I won't post a link because it does show nudity, only the people are blue. I don't plan on flying again until I go to Thailand for SRS, and since I can't get my ID to say female until after SRS mine will still say male. I wouldn't be able to decide what to do in that situation it would be either go in the female line and be outed with the machine and ID or going in the male line looking female which would get everyones attention, plus I don't care what my ID says or what is between my legs at the moment, I'm female. I guess since people will out you and make a big deal about it either way I might as well go in the female line and at least not be bugged while waiting in line or feel frustrated at being in the wrong male line. Like there isn't enough to worry about traveling to Thailand for SRS.

So an update from me.   Had my endo appointment last night. Went very well and they are sending 3 months supply of estrogen (estradoil patches) and the anti-androgens whilst my Dr gets a shared care agreement sorted out. So happy, should start HRT tomorrow!! Cost for the 3 month supply is £70 total for me, so not too bad. Not told my parents about this yet, but them being in spain, not sure they need to know yet.   Can't wait to start, just got to think about where to put the patches now and wait for the changes...

Good Morning    well it’s Friday for most, pay day for some.  For me it’s pay day but not Friday.  I work the same opening shift tomorrow.  I typically have Friday on Saturday and Monday on Tuesday.     @KymmieL it does sound like your shop has an issue and you are smack in the thick of it.  The new gal or guy often is.  We have an issue with new people not getting fully trained before being turned loose on customers.  Some struggle through it and some quit because of it.  I try to get them working with customers as quickly as I can but I stay right with them observing, helping, even jumping in when things are getting backed up to keep the stress down.  Not everything comes up during training so when things do, even later after trying is done, I try to help and explain.  Our ASM feels that once she has you scanning barcodes and taking money she is done training.  Generally, refuses to train me on things that she does, and questions why I’m doing something that she normally handles when I’ve been told to do it as part of my advancement training.     She and the cashier involved both keep trying to toss the manager under the bus over a hours of work issue and shifts.  I tell her I realize her issues and I’ll work what ever she needs.  Because of that I tend to get a better more consistent schedule.   Well, time to say Happy Trails to you, until we meet again.   Hi ho Silver, away   Willow

That does get you the 'starting point' for cup size, but manufacturers, style, breast shape, etc... will effect the results.    Step one is of course finding the proper band fit, then figuring out the approximate cup size with the calculations. Of course you need to try on a few styles after that in different cup sizes close to your measured result until you get the perfect fit.    I have bras in a DD that fit just like my bras in DDD both from Torrid but different styles.    I have some DDD's that fit awesome and some that are a bit loose, but I measure a 46G. It's not wonder that 80% of women are wearing them wrong bra.

I firmly believe I drank entirely to much for about 25 years. Got drunk every day. This was my coping mechanism to keep hiding deep inside that I was a woman. I miss a lot of signs over the years. Now I drink mabye 1 or 2 beers a day don't even get a buzz anymore. totally accept myself and on regret is that I hide that part of my self which  truly makes me happy being violet 💜. I wasted a lot of time before  being self destructive and had no clue I was just hiding th real me

Is it a safe and friendly area for us to go.  The wife and I are looking for some where to go to allow me to be my true self.     thanks in advance

Hey, everyone. my life is going down the tubes. at least I think. So, today. A customer called about his car, I told him that the oil change was done. The parts to fix the check engine light are ordered. He can come and get it. For the weekend if he wants. Customer says I didn't want an oil change. it was check the engine light and check for an oil leak. Checking the work order says oil change. The boss wrote the vehicle up. checking with the customer on services wanted.   Being that I wrote down the appointment in the book. and clearly states oil leak. She is complaining because she can't read my small ish writing. It seems she read oil and assumed it as an oil change. It seems like she is blaming me.  She wound up going home because she was too upset. She is stressing about an eye problem she has, she has to get eye surgery it seems she has a tear in her eye.    I feel that I am short for this job. because of the BS they are blaming me on. Plus I am still upset about the trust issue. If either one of the bosses start their Shite tomorrow. I am walking out.

"I love you so much,"  Lois said.  They met in the driveway. "I could not live without you." "Neither could I." "What are we going to do?" "Find another counselor?" "No. I think we need to solve this ourselves." "Do you think we can?" "I don't know.  But what I know is that I don't want to go through that again.  I think we have to hope we can find a solution." "Otherwise, despair." "Yeah.   Truce?" "Okay,  truce." And they hugged.   "When we know what we want we can figure out how to get there."   That began six years of angry battles, with Odie insisted he could dress as he pleased and Lois insisting it did not please her at all.  He told her she was not going to control him and she replied that she still had rights as a wife to a husband. Neither was willing to give in, neither was willing to quit, and their heated arguments ended in hugs and more.   They went to a Crossdressers' Club, where they hoped to meet other couples with the same problems, the same conflicts, and the same answers, if anyone had any.  It took them four tries before they settled on a group that they were both willing to participate in.  This was four couples their own age, each with a cross dressing husband and a wife who was dealing with it.  They met monthly.  It was led by a 'mediator' who wanted people to express how they felt about the situation.  Odie and Lois, as newcomers, got the floor, and the meeting was finally dismissed at 1:30 in the morning - it was supposed to be over at 10 - and everyone knew how they felt about the situation.   There was silence in the car on the way home.   "We aren't the only ones dealing with this." Odie finally said.   "Who would have thought that?  You are right."   "Somebody out there has a solution." "I hope you are right."   "I hope in hope, not in despair."   "That's my Odie."

The counseling session was heated, if you could call it a counseling session.  Sometimes Lois felt he was on Odie's side, and sometimes on hers.  When he was on her side, Odie got defensive. She found herself being defensive when it seemed they were ganging up on each other.   "This is not working," Lois said angrily, and walked out.  "Never again. I want my husband back. Dr. Smith you are complicit in this."   "What?" said Odie.   The counselor looked at him.  "You will have to learn some listening skills."   "That is it? Listening skills?  You just destroyed my marriage, and you told me I need to learn listening skills?"   Dr. Smith said calmly,"I think you both need to cool off."   Odie looked at him and walked out, saying "And you call yourself a counselor."   "Wait a minute."   "No."
