Depending on your age nelly :) you may want to get androgen blockers in combination with hair removal.

At my age testosterone is "wreaking havoc" on my features and will continue to promote facial hair growth (age 18)

so I'll have to use androgen blockers to stop hair growth.

Make sense? :)

First, start laser sooner than later. The hairs on your legs & face won't go away with HRT. I lost all chest & stomach hair with HRT. But the rest is removed easier before HRT. Remember your facial skin will get thinner after HRT.

Second, it works great on lighter skin. So tanning & spending time outdoors makes it not work. Also you need to use sun block & avoid sunlight after sessions. So don't wait until summer to start.

Third, I found 6 visits in just under 1 year did the trick.

Thanks guys this thread helped a lot. I'm going to wait until I begin HRT (May 22) And after a couple of months see what kind of hair loss I have, but can anyone tell me how HRT might affect back hair, or hair anywere else for that matter. Also my therapist says that laser can be done anywhere on your body, but I've herd others say that's not true. What really gives me hope is the loss of the shadow. Well I guess it gives me plenty of time to save up money, *sigh* is nothing cheep in this world anymore. :(

That's what you need.. the proper ruby laser.. or IPL . . the so called "cool" laser things just aren't permanent.

If you want the best results then unfortunately it costs. If it seems too cheap then it probably is. Anywhere in the UK which is up to scratch will cost you between £125 and £200 a session .. they will be PCT approved for pre surgical and medical treatments. Look for that as a sign that what they do actually is what they claim.

3 monthly sessions now. Next time I have to leave 36 hours between shaving and going, because there are only a few fine dark hairs left .. A+ result.. well impressed with the treatment... I have to actually remember to shave before going out now.. what a relief it is not to have to spend 15 minutes every day scraping away at it... All that are left are a few white hairs and they really don't show. Electro for them maybe when I have had number 4

I can't use emla.. it makes my skin peel, but I'm fine with a little sunburn

Hummm - HRT seems to have reduced the leg hair growth considerably, and it seens thinner what does come back. Not much effect on the beard at all (as expected not to have any affect).

i don't have much to add I had a lot of electrolysis years ago. i was young and I guess I forgot how much it hurt . I don't have much on my face. I went last week for laser and paid 200.00. I thought that was a lot. the same women does electro and i will have to have some as I have grey hair. It hurt a lot, but I was done in like ten minutes I was so depressed afterward that went home and got drunk. I have to go back in 4 weeks. Oh well.

I have given an opinion on this already - but coming back and reading all the others, seems like answers are somewhat all over the place. Frankly, my therapist recommends laser. I have researched and NONE seems to like laser in the other sites.

My neice had laser for facial hair (a pretty girl with excessive sideburn hair - part of her heritage) It did not work well at first, She went to many treatments. It has had marginal affects - but her hair is really way too fine for electrolysis.

So I am going electrolysis - even though I hear it hurts worse. I have pale skin and rather dark hair, but i have been tweezing for so long, my whisker hair is about 80% white now. Unlike my neice, my heritage has given me virtually no beard to start wih (we are related by marriage).

Surgeons don't like electrolysis.. not in surgical areas.. apparently there is a high risk of tissue damage and scarring which makes their job harder if not impossible. Better get your surgical areas cleared before you go grey "down under" girls ;)

That's direct from Leicester surgical unit.

All the rest depends very much where you are located and what your funds are like... some muppet was telling me what a great computer I could buy with the money I have spent on this... but I have a computer :)

My therapist referred me to someone who does a lot of work with TS's for Laser/Electrolysis and hopefully after my consolation with her, she will let me know which will work out best for me, I am hoping for Laser since I heard that is really the best way to go at first?, either way I am just excited about starting this and continue on with my Journey!!~Yay!~

I'm just wondering what is the price difference between electro and laser, and if anyone knows a good electro or laser treatment place in ontario.

Nelly, you don't need to fret doing the facial hair removal thing now. There are tons of men who get it done. Ever wonder how all those guys keep those neatly groomed five o'clock shadows? It is very common for businessmen who are tired of ruining $150 shirts with blood stains, and men who battle ingrown hairs or have bad complexions. I went to the American Laser Center that my wife uses. All I said was I was sick of shaving; they didn't even bat an eye (except to tell me that most guys give up because they can't take the pain :) I just referred them to a fellow I work with who is sick of shaving. He has to do it FOUR times a day!

Don't think Americans would go for the "compulsory" part. We kind of like not being told what to do ... Amazingly, there is great pushback on voter ID laws. The opponents say it discourages voting, especially among the poor and minorities. That is really a smokescreen IMO for those who want to harvest ballots from as many places as possible, including folks who don't exist or don't hold citizenship...

Pretty soon I think I might be ready to talk about gender-affirming care for kids, possibly w/r/t the Cass Review and its shortcomings.

She was a beautiful young woman ...   "What we do know is that the offender was a very violent individual and should not have been on our streets.”  Whether gender related or not, the mental health and incarceration issues in our country are incredibly bad and need to be addressed.

April,   I'm glad my entries are interesting to you.  TransCentralPA is a great organization with so many caring people.  I would strongly recommend you find a way to attend the Keystone Conference.  I guarantee you'll find it an amazing experience.     Hugs,   Sally

Dear @Sally Stone.  I think you should author a memoir based on these posts (maybe you're already working towards that?).  You could decide at a later time if/when you might want to publish.   I appreciate you sharing your deep connection with your friend Willa (and I am sorry for your loss) and the benefit of having a Trans friend and mentor in our Life and Journey.  I was fortunate to have found one also in our TGP friend @Kasumi63.   As you know we share many common Life themes in our stories.  Drop me a PM if you'd like to chat about it.  Looking forward to the next 'chapter'.

Voting is compulsory here, for better or worse. Would doing the same in the US snap people out of their apathy?

I am noting you use CRT terminology.  The comment is not out of the blue.  Some of your remarks on religion suggest atheism.  So it is believable that you are a Marxist, knowingly or not.  Are you?

Congrats to your family on the new addition!

Funny you think that I would be able to get through more than two sentences with how bad my stutter gets (joking, of course)   My topic would probably be mythology, random Japan factoids in my mind, or a favorite story   (Best option would be a fave story of mine including a lot of factoids on Japanese myths-)

I read each of your entries and learn so much. Thank you, especially, for the TransCentralPA info. I have been looking fora group and activities where I could express myself safely and with support. I missed this year's conference but next year might be possible and I am going to look at their other events, too.

I have read numerous accounts of trans folk no longer being welcome among evangelicals.   I am here for help and fellowship not to rebuke anyone.  I can take a pretty high degree of insult, etc., and you haven't insulted me, to my recollection anyway :) and I usually let it go.  But I thought I would let it all out there.   I am sure I disagree with you on numerous issues.  I appreciate other people's viewpoints, including those who radically disagree with me.  Intellectual challenge is good. One thing I appreciate about @MaeBe.
