My hair is already 3 and 3/4 inches (and very unruly unless I straighten). I want to get it to about six inches but I think that if I do that I might as well scream that I'm mtf. What I'm thinking is I might could get some odd color streak and say that I'm just trying to look emo or, as much as I hate this word, metrosexual. I'm not sure how to go about doing this because I live in the heart of the Bible belt, and transgender, emo, and metro are all considered "abominations to God "for whatever reason. The worst of which being transgendered, the other two just earn you very judgmental looks. Could somebody suggest me something.

I don't think anyone will think your Transgender at all, Even if you got 20" hair lol Now you will get them messed up people that think all guys should have short hair and may even say you look like a girl to try and put you down.

Right now my hair is about 8" And not one person has looked at me like Oh my goodness "are you a girl" etc etc And i even wear it in a pony tail B)

My goal is to have about 14" long hair before i start on my HRT, That way it will just make things easier on me.

Just say you want to grow your hair out to see what it looks like and then if you need to defend yourself use male celebs that have long hair and they look good with it.

If those fundamentalists in the bible belt try to belittle you or ask why long hair or long hair is for this or that you can always use the "jesus had long hair does that make him (insert slur here) as well".

Hope that helps but don't trust me 100% on this as i don't live in the same enviroment as you just a few things ive used to defend myself.

I live in the Fl panhandle. I consider it part of the bible belt. And I know many guys with hair a lot longer than 6". Just start listening to some screamo and heavy metal, maybe even some classic rock or some hair bands. As long as you carry yourself right no one will know. People may hastle you about geting a hair cut. But no more than the normal jibs and jabs people give each other.

Yeah I live down here in Oklahoma and I know quite a few dudes with fairly long hair. I understand completely about not wanting to out yourself. You can get away with long hair though. =)

Rock/metal band tees! So simple, but so effective. Even in the bible belt, any generic or specific metal band t-shirt will let you grow your hair as long as you want with no one's first thought being that you're trans. You might still get funny looks, but they'll just think you're one of "those darn kids these days."

I learned this by accident (I love metal) and have had long hair since I was 14. And depending on the band and the size of the shirt you can be as feminine as you want. Emo is considered more feminine and might feel better some days, but if there are days where you feel really self-conscious you can always go cannibal corpse and you're in the clear. This will also let you paint your nails with no suspicion, especially black.

If you don't like metal, rock, or emo, you can always wear guitar themed or generic gothy tees to the same effect.

I hope this helps!

I work in a real male dominated workplace where 99% of the men have short short hair. Fortunately it grows slow and people don't notice slow change. When people eventually commented I just laughed along. There is the awkward bit in the middle where you cant get it in a pony tail but hats are an option. Took me a year and a half to get it to my shoulders. Its doubtful that you will get a serious challenge about being MTF. In male mode, whenever I tell someone I'm TG they always look surprised even though I'm standing in front of them with a big ponytail , woman's skin-tight jeans; woman's trainers; woman's fleece jacket . Its amazing how people interpret and don't actually see. They just don't see. That's also how I pass generally when out and about no one sees, no one really cares, they are took wrapped up etc etc.

I know you live in the hell-fire and damnation belt (bet everyone ain't that way, you aren't) but.... Bottom line, if you really really want it, grow it! :)

Hugs

Rachel

I really don't think that's a good idea. The unity of the LGB and T community is historic and has been central for both groups rights. And the vast majority of people advocating for splitting the two are transphobic LGB's who are broadly condemned by the community anyway.

A bit late in updating, but I've had the draft of the official diagnosis and have (as yet unconfirmed) an endo consultation next month.   Next to arrive will be the supporting documentation for my new passport application for my correct gender.  This will then be my official ID for all the other updates - bank, tax, payroll etc.   It just feels good to to be proactive again rather than waiting for other people to move at a leisurely pace.

I like ELF brand cosmetics, I can pick them up at JC Penny.    I wear makeup everyday, but mostly just very light makeup.

Hi Mae Be, whenever it comes to makeup, there are so many different bands to choose from. Picking out the right makeup comes with trial and error, until you find one that works for you and blends well with your skin tone, some makeup products can leave the skin feeling oily. It's a good idea to look at the labels on the makeup product to know what the creators put in the makeup, just in case skin allergies. Once you found the makeup brand, you can add it to your shopping list, good luck

To be fair I’m pretty lost when it comes to makeup technique. I’ve watched videos, but I have no idea what works for or would help my features. So I just bungle along, hoping I don’t look terrible.
